Isarai, those are great points and I agree. Some of my favorite moments in media have come from reading notes or diary entries. Emotional subtlety can be made stronger if ALL of these tools are able to be used simultaneously and in a way that can be understood/perceived by the person experiencing the content. Body language is hard to use to your benefit when something like the PS1 has a hard time showing animations that get that across. The atmosphere can only really be had to great effect wi...

Isarai, since I can't respond to you directly for whatever reason (won't let me reply to your comment), I again see the point. I feel I've made my argument as to both sides fairly clear across the podcast and the replies here, so it seems we just disagree on the extent in which technology can assist in the creation of stories and to the benefit of a story.

Exactly. A good story can still be had without these advances, but these things can be used to tell a story that is more abstract and up to interpretation to the player.

I definitely agree with the notion that it doesn't have to be tied to specs but, do you truly feel a game like Death Stranding, with such strong imagery, would work on PS1's hardware limitations? Do you not think the subtlety of Sam's expressions could be conveyed without the power expended to the creative teams that work to tell this story in more ways than just one. Dialogue and words can do a LOT, but when you think about the interactively visual layer that games add to story-t...

I definitely agree. For a second though, think about the things that technology and graphical fidelity allow us to do in aid of the story without the need for words. With gaming having an avenue of visual story-telling, the nuance that better tech can give to character animations, world building through dilapidated buildings with scorch marks strategically placed in a way that shows that the destruction was potentially done intentionally and not through the passing of time. These are subtle t...

I understand the basic instinct to think that, but this is more like comparing the advent of illustrations alongside books and if they help to tell a better story. We thought it was a fun question as at the heart, I do believe a good story can be had regardless of the technology improvements, but can the improvements to the technology add a new layer that was previously impossible? Maybe dense worlds that help to build the world of the game with no words spoken. Maybe the light curling of the...

The developers literally have a non episodic game releasing sometime this year. It's an action-RPG called Vampyr. Yes, they saw huge success with Life is Strange, not because it was episodic but because it told a great story. You will continue to see them put out traditional releases, but of course they will continue Life is Strange in its original format.

I agree to an extent. I do think that the crowdfunding initiative at it's core is more for the small developer who can't make it happen otherwise, there are a few times when it is seasoned developers, but who want to make a game that is not commercially proven to be viable any longer. Some great example are Yooka-Laylee, and Pillars of Eternity. Both games in genres that were once huge, but have since withered out. The developers instead took to Kickstarter to pitch the game to the pe...

I'm holding off judgement on KH3's development status until after E3. If Square does not show a size-able new chunk of the game, then you might be right. Last year I felt that they kept it pretty low profile to let FFXV get as much attention as possible considering it needed the buzz more than any game after that development cycle.

Agreed. The way the information was framed when reporting the whole 3 years thing was clickbait-y and obvious. I'd expect KH3 sometime next year honestly, and FFVII's first part somewhere in 2019.

Really glad to hear this from the OG developer, even if most of the team who worked on the original Crash games is gone, they have lineage there, and I'm sure the games and the character are close to their hearts as a studio.

@mcstorm, I see them as entirely different markets. One is to put you in another world, the other is to put the game in our world. They have very different applications in my opinion, so I feel like there really isn't competition in that sense. Like you said though, to each their own. They are both interesting.

Definitely going to try and change my spacing from the console. The game gives you a "cage" that you should be inside of, and I was definitely within that range comfortably. Going to try moving forward some, back, some, or possibly even moving the PS Camera. Hope I get it working right, because the game is awesome so far, but when you can't always aim down the sights right, makes it a little hard to play. Thanks for the tips.

Hey, I'm optimistic. Just cautiously so. I'm loving PSVR. Had it since launch, but there are definitely fears of long term support. Honestly, I've gotten my money's worth out of it but everyone has a different idea of what that value is and when it hits it.

Did all that, always play VR with the lights off, still kept happening. Still haven't been able to hop back in as I've had a crazy week, but I'm going to try this weekend for sure.

Arizona Sunshine definitely looks like it could be promising. I definitely hope this thing sees a longer support stem than some of the other peripherals that came out. I'm not too worried, as VR seems to actually be performing to a point where support for it won't lapse so quickly anyway. If anything Farpoint makes me want an even crazier FPS experience for VR. Really can't wait to see Santa Monica VR title though. Just curious what it could be?

Reasonable thinking for sure. The game was not perfect, and I am under no illusion that it was, but I do think the very minor flaws were not enough for this game to be attacked like it was. Victim of hype and expectations for the game to be something the developer never claimed the game to be.

Agreed. I played through it 3 times, after getting the platinum on the first playthrough. I just think it's a really good game, and I dearly hope that they get the chance to fix the few issues it had (mainly using the same boss fight twice) in a sequel. RaD are great developers, so here's to hoping that E3 holds some surprises.

And just so you know, your argument definitely changed my initial thoughts, and I have changed the title to reflect that I mean the return to the limelight, or "rise". So thank you for that.
