It’s not a failure for PC. The market is split between many kinds of devices. Valve is probably happy with these numbers. The best selling computer of all time was the C64 which Guinness World Records says sold at least 12.5m by the highest verifiable number but some estimate up to 30m.
Anyways since the PC software market is not restricted by the total sales of any individual piece of hardware, it’s not directly comparable to console where Switch games can only reach Swit...
Doesn’t make sense to me why companies cheap out so much on memory, leading to future problems that they can’t fix. At 10GB, the Series S has less RAM than the last-gen One X (12GB) and isn’t compatible with the enhanced modes they made for certain back compat games that boost to 4K on One X and Series X. Also the Switch 2 is strongly rumored to come with 12GB but we really wanted 16GB for future proofing and reducing the effort devs need to make Nintendo ports of memory-hungry cross platform...
I think they're only considering it now because *it is a PC*. They avoided doing the portable console for 23 years of Xbox. Now that the PC handheld category has opened up, they're considering their own Xbox-brand PC along with improvements to the Xbox app experience. They already did a collab with ASUS by subsidizing some of the price tag of ROG Ally in exchange for them promoting the MS ecosystem and Gamepass. Maybe they also want their own brand handheld out there if the rumors are...
I started questioning 20 years ago if games are focusing too much on graphics tech. The answer then was not really. Today in the 2020s I'm pretty sure they've gone beyond the point of diminishing returns. It's taking way too long and costing them too much to make these AAA games and the results are almost always not worth it. The cost is largely defined by how these games look - the amount of resources it takes to furnish large worlds with a high density of environmental detail. ...
@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.
I love Sega but they don't have the money to risk on that any more. I would like to live in an alternate timeline where Dreamcast was such a big success that it had a 10+ year lifecycle and came up about even in unit sales against the PS2. The entire Shenmue saga was completed on that console as planned and more consoles followed. Microsoft never got into the console business and instead focused on Windows gaming and making the Microsoft Store not suck. Since Microsoft never bought Rare i...
I don't think the generation should be nearly half done. Each gen takes longer to get going than the last. This time we've had a big cross gen overlap with PS4 still seeing a lot of support. I think PS5 should be the longest generation so far and they should focus on remodelling it to bring costs down and doing as much as they can with PSVR2 support.
Ah yes, Koji. Full name Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, he's an American who moved to Japan and seems to love inserting caulk / shafts into whatever he can get away with. He's also good at his job, he created a dragon language, but you do get some dong jokes and western pop culture references along with that.
Its own team stopped calling it an RPG. It's been billed as the first full action game in the FF series. And I was a huge fan of RPGs when their predecessors at Squaresoft were kings of the genre so I'm not happy with this change. Make action games if you please, but don't make the line of FF RPGs extinct. This game is different, not better, not a replacement. I want deep character growth systems that allow a playable *party* of characters to learn a big variety of spells and tech...
I thought so but never saw it confirmed before. The very first teaser trailer, which was pulled down and altered swiftly, said something like "PlayStation consoles and PC" which I interpreted as PS4, PS5, PC. Some sites didn't notice the change to PS5 exclusive and kept reporting it as coming for PC for a while after. I've ended up caving in and buying a PS5 mainly for this game but I'm also catching up with a bunch of other good exclusives at the moment.
I wasn't happy with the way they handled Vita at all. I mean it was an awesome product but they mishandled and dumped it. A decade later they are preparing to re-enter the portable space with something worse than that. It even looks like a generic tablet device with controller halves attached, the same kind of product that's already widely available elsewhere.
It could be something if it had other functions besides being a stream screen. All it would take is an out...
To people saying it could be a last gen game: they couldn't without downgrading it, which misses the point of the project. Consider that even T7 had to run at just 720p on Xbox One and 900p on PS4.
T8 rebuilt all of its characters with a much higher polygon budget than T7. It might be hard to tell from low-bitrate streaming videos but it's a substantial generational upgrade targeting new consoles and using Unreal Engine 5.
It's also not acce...
Off that description and the pictures, I would have much preferred that over the RE7 we got with the family house and Ethan, but to each their own. Their decision was good for business. I like the classic, cheesy, action-hero characters and gameplay.
There's a lot ways the cost could be more complicated than the performance they are getting from old hardware. Like a next-gen 4K 60 fps game might have a lot more copy-paste padding sections and asset reuse than a Zelda game with lots of intricately hand-crafted designs. The 4K game may also be using premade textures taken from an external source or AI-generated stuff.
1st party PS5 games are obviously very expensive but I'm sure there's a lot of 3rd party $70...
They are definitely worse creatively when they do this. I wonder if JP focused games really can't do well globally. Things were different back when they used to make more whimsical games for domestic tastes. Lots of factors could have played into their international performance. They have stronger brand recognition now, they have digital distribution with a longer tail than limited time on retail shelves, more ways to monetize. I would love them to go all-in on stuff they are masters at r...
Been looking forward to these reviews since I feel like they're the only people who don't overrate shitty games. Most games suck. It actually means something to get an 8 or higher if they don't give 8s to everything.
Well some people here think it's useless because it's less powerful but this is actually a very generous price for a console that will be around for a while. Series S only exists to hit a lower price point; great for people on a tight budget or people who want Xbox as a second or third console but don't want to pay Series X price. I have Series S and it's a nice little portal to Gamepass.
I wouldn't say it's my favorite necessarily but it's the best back compat console ever. Support for the full PS1 game library and controllers, memory cards and other accessories. The first 2 generations of PlayStation was nothing but good decisions and good value. They couldn't have performed any better as a newcomer to the console business. The slim remodeled PS2 was some brilliant engineering and very affordable.
"Square shouldve stuck to being square instead of westernizing all their games." YES. This is one of the saddest things about modern gaming for me. Squaresoft's old games were works of art. Indies are ok but it's impossible for them to reach the perfection of an industry-leading studio at their prime. FF XVI will probably be a good game, but we lost something great to get this style as its replacement.
The crash was about very poor quality games on Atari in the days before NES even released. Games are much better now and people will never stop playing. Pricing won’t force people to change hobbies because games like Fortnite start as low as free. Most AAA games end up with massive discounts after a while. Nintendo don’t discount but everyone keeps buying them full price anyway. Those are my thoughts when people predict a total industry crash. The industry will rather change and adapt. Compan...
