It hasn't actually been in development that long, so to speak, but Todd Howard has mentioned numerous times over the years he's always wanted to do a space game.. and he's been at Bethesda since.. 1994, a couple years before daggerfall- so probably ruminations since he was a lead on Morrowind.

@Shadowsteal, Arkane Lyon was not working on Redfall, that was Austin- the B studio, and now.. likely the *not even a studio*.

A source just in case it's needed; I'm sure the next effort will be a much better, single player experience.

As for this game however, I believe despite the graphics, the world and story wit...

i'd be happy with 60fps alone, the games don't *need* to look much better, they do well with the art styles honestly.
But the difference between 30 and 60 frames is very noticeable and is probably the only thing keeping me from buying a Switch at the moment, unfortunately.

If you want to talk about teraflops, the Series S is only 4, the reality is newer; faster, smaller chiplet designs that are coming out now will be leaps and bounds ahead of what was possible even a few years ago.

The Steamdeck is the perfect example of the level people expect though, the Deck can play most games at 800p and while having higher framerates all the same, you'd likely be looking at 4-500 for something like that.

Also important to note the key creatives involved in Prey, you had a soundtrack composed by Mick Gordon, and writing assisted by the likes of Chris Avellone- and since Prey, the founder of Arkane; Raphael Colantonio had left too. these are all variables that could have a lot to do with how Redfall turned out overall, most games are only good as the *team* of talent behind them and i get the idea Arkane Austin is all at sea with that reality currently.

This news just shows t...

Not sure why people are disagreeing with this.. everything so reactionary these days.

Whether it's a gamble or not, If a game does blow up- it will guarantee future sales for a sequel, dlc or revised editions of said game; it's easy for a lot of people to criticise decisions like this in some way, but there are few ways to guarantee a "successful" launch, which GP and Epic are directly involved in.

I think in this case it's the implication of the culture over there that creates the problem.

GT Sport was rather awful to be honest. hopefully the new one is more akin to the older greats, but Forza and GT are very different games with very different feels, though i think Forza is much easier to get into and has plenty of depth to please even those that are into the more hardcore sim racers.

End of the day this article is about PC optimisation, most AAA games don't get that right- so it's worth appreciating that fact.

Just try it when it does come out, most fun you'll have in a racing game if Horizon 4 was anything to judge from- gets the balance of simulation and fun right, enough depth for the enthusiasts and is easy to get into for those more casually into racing.

@oldenjon

It'll have a separately sold dock with all the extra connectivity you could need beyond that- so ethernet will be an option.

it's still an open world rpg either way, games that can be co-op are always a solid idea when you can sell extra copies as people try to get their friends into it.

It's Arkane Austin though, so we'll have to see just how good it ends up being.

Don't forget the runaway success of the Metro series is also due in part to S.T.A.L.K.E.R and the subsequent sequels; Glukhovsky's novels (Metro 2033 etc.) were partly inspired by Roadside Picnic.

The added success of things like Escape from Tarkov and the Fallout games only result in gamers (and there are a lot more of them these days) being more excited for a title in the same vein, those of us that have played S.T.A.L.K.E.R are looking forward to another world to...

To be fair though- I think many games are still trying to work out the best way to do first person melee combat; it's one of those puzzles that's proven very difficult to get right, we have so many examples of great third person combat that's got many very good formulae- be it DMC, Dark Souls et al.

When i think of great first person combat i usually jump to something like Dark Messiah because of the interactivity with the environment more so than the actual vis...

I think most people are forgetting R* have a development team at least 3 times bigger than CDPR, they also don't give their employees direct revenue based on the games' sales.
R* are on another level because they've been putting out massive games for 20 years.

we got the teaser already, back in 2018- gameplay early next year and release around holidays next year, if we're lucky, more likely march ish though, 2022.

I'm honestly confused by the people complaining about paying full price for early access, are most games cheaper during early access? are you getting less of a game by the time it comes out? is the expectation you get more for your money than a 50+ hour game by the end of it?.

it's simply there for people that want to play it early; and good feedback will come of it once you filter out the incessant whining some feel they're entitled to.

Feels like at this point a lot of these games go mobile because a full blown mmo would need to actually be better than its competitors.. mobile though? anything works.
