I would rather have a game running in 720p at 60 frames per second, than a game running in 1080p at 30 frames per second. Target should of course be 1080p at 60 fps.
Frames per second isn't a graphics thing. It's about game-play. Once you get used to playing games at 60+ frames per second, 30 fps seems like a lag-fest. Call me elitist or whatever tickles your fancy. 60 fps is so much better than 30 fps, and no it does not make the graphics better, it makes the game-play so much better.
Example? Yeah, Gran Turismo 5 would be a different beast at 30 fps, a lot less responsive and not as smooth as it is at 60 fps (yes, I know it do...

Yeah, well, on paper you could easily build a PC that has far better spec's than the PS4 today. I don't think you'll see much difference on cross-platform games, and I think PS4 exclusives will give any high-end PC a run for it's money.
At the end of the day, they're very different platforms. Where the PC is much more oriented towards real-time Strategy/Tactics, mmo/rpgs, fps, puzzle, simulation.
You have g...
@miyamoto
Yes, some of the PlayStation exclusives are awesome, like UC2, Journey, GT5, etc.
But all the cross-platform games are technically miles better on PC.
That's why I have both.
How does the PS4 threaten PC territory? Hardware wise? Well, yes, PS4 would be an upgrade for a lot of PC-owners. But you can buy a better specced PC today, and in a couple of years you can probably buy a better specced PC pretty cheap.
I'm a PS3/PC owner. I love both of them, though the last year I've given the PC more love. I got tired of low frame rates, and low res graphics.
I'm waiting for the PS4 and I think it's only positive for the PC...
I think you make a good point, but I think you push it too far. There are some very good exclusive AAA PC titles out there also. But, yes, some of the multiplatforms would probably not exist if it wasn't for console. Then again, if console didn't exist, many more would have good gaming PCs and maybe many of the AAA games you are talking about would see the light of day anyway.
Console = Better Games? You know that ALL multiplatform games are better on PC right?
Since a couple of years ago I play all multiplat on my PC with my PS3 controller. PS3 version 20-30 frames pr. second at 720p or less native resolution and low res textures. PC runs the same game at 1080p 60 frames/s often with a lot better textures and gfx effects.
So, the only games that are left are the console exclusives, and some of them are very very good, but PC also ...
It's already been said above here. It's all about the games, Sony and PlayStation have a lot of exclusive games that are not available on PC. All these games will make me buy a PS4. My PC will always be more powerful than any console on the market and will have it's share of exclusives also. PS4 and PC will be the best combo for gaming just like PC and PS3 is today.
SE has everything to prove. They've fallen like a sack of shit. They wasted everyone's time with their presentation and they haven't made anything good the last 6 years.
Square Enix was shit. They just wasted everyone's time at the show.
A short list of PC games that are leaps and bounds better than the console counterpart, some of these are PC exclusives.
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition
Far Cry 3
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Amnesia The Dark Descent
Left 4 Dead 2
League of Legends
Dishonored
Guild Wars 2
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
GTA IV
Bioshock
The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings

PS1 > PS2 > PS3
These pictures look really very good. But... all the footage I've seen the last month from pCars don't look even close to these pictures.

If it hadn't been for exclusives I would not have a PS3, I run all the multi-platform titles on my PC.
Exclusives are the only thing that will drive me to buying a PS4.
For me, the problem is that if TLG releases for the PS3 I'm not even interested anymore, I'll only pick it up if it's for the PS4, same goes for vs13. Last games I can see myself buying for PS3 is God of War Ascension, The Last of Us and Beyond Two Souls.
Dark Souls with mods is awesome on PC.
DSfix. DS Fixed Edition. HD Fonts. Foliage. 60 FPS. PS3/X360 Controller. Etc...
"You Died Like a Bitch"
Crysis 2 Maximum Edition with new textures etc. looks pretty awesome though and is leaps & bounds ahead of my PS3 version.
In hindsight I think the Cell processor was a big mistake. It took far too long before the PS3 started getting descent multiplatform games and good exclusives. Even today some multiplats still struggle more on the PS3. The Cell processor hasn't proven it self as the hyped up super duper processor that Sony hyped it up to be. At least for gaming it doesn't seem to add much, before the PS3 released Sony were saying that the Cell was so powerful they didn't even need a graphics card,...
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was very mainstream, even my dad completed it and loved it.
Want to add/correct to the above post.
Frames per second isn't mainly a graphics thing, though at 60 fps graphics are much smother and kind pop out of the screen at you, it's about how much better the game-play feels. I would rather have 720p 60 fps than 1080p 30 fps.
