So with 425000 Blu-Ray and 270000 HD-DVD players out there it's looking like Blu-Ray is starting to kick ass. Good-bye HD-DVD
I'd have to admit, even as a sony fan, the ps3 does seem a bit of a bust right now but I'm sure [hope] that will change. I won't buy one until the price drops below $300US, $20 games become available, 1080P tvs become affordable and hopefully an ungraded controller {with rumble} comes out. For now I'll happily stick with my ps2 and all the great and cheap games out there. PS I'm not poor, just smart!
These disc read problems tend to get worse as the game player ages, so if the xbox is having even slight trouble now as a new machine I would be a little concerned of what's coming down the road.
The cold hard fact remains the same, sony used a next gen storage medium and microsoft did not, just like ps2 went from CD [ps1] to DVD as a gaming medium, playing movies is just a bonus.It's only natural that we are going to require a larger capacity as time goes on, the ps3 is built for the next five years or so not just for today, unless you don't mind buying a new xbox every couple of years as microsoft would have you do!
What are you people talking about, this is huge, great for playstation, horrible for xbox. I don't scratch my discs either but I end up acquiring them and what about rentals,I guess that's out of the question now eh xbox fans!
Unless you people own an hdtv you'r ps3,360 versions are going to look like crap also!
Why would anyone want to wear out their 600+ new ps3 playing old ps2 or ps1 games, have you seen the price of a new ps2 lately? At least sony still supports it's last gen player unlike microsoft who quickly dumped the xbox, so sorry to you xbox fans, when your box die's it's game over for all your old games just like it will be in two or three years when the 720 comes out!
It's the same old crap in the way that it processes data, it basically a gaming computer like the first xbox was. The ps3 is going to take a while to get the best out of it and then watch out MS.
The ps3 is a whole new beast it's going to take some time to get it right, the xbox is basically the same old crap. For now I'll stick with my ps2 and the numerous great and cheap games for the next year or so. lt'll be pretty funny when your xbox games come on three or four discs with your last gen storage medium !

It's just a matter of time before a killer app game comes out that requires the size of blu-ray, maybe a year or so and then it's game over xbox, so in my opinion blu-ray is here to stay. The main problem with the ps3 is the lack of rumble as the games that I like to play, first person shooters will suck without it, so I'll stick with my ps2 for a while longer.
