The expansion of Open World Games. I always liked them but now they have a depth to them. NPCs have lives, conversations. And the out of the way places are as interesting as the main quests.
Resident Evil 5. Not understanding how to get out of the first level. Coop.
In relatively recent memory (2014) my memorable experience came with "Hitman Absolution" which I only tried because it was a free games with gold on Xbox Live.

Any of the four Treyarch zombie killers. Their interaction is always entertaining. Plus, zombies.
