Genuine reasons I think PS3 is better than 360

Graphics

I don't need to say how much better the graphics on PS3 are compared to 360, there's a whole string of exclusive 1st party titles that do that for me. The argument that multi-plats look better on 360 has become a myth now that developers are choosing to lead on PS3... as they always should have.

Sound

HDMI as standed since launch has enabled greater sound quality on your average HDTV. Combine that with Blu-ray's massive storage capacity, which enables developers to stream beautiful uncompressed audio in their games and you can have an excellent sound setup that's just not possible on other consoles.

Free online play

Playstation Network and XBL are pretty similar as far as features go but the PSN seems to have more games with dedicated servers and also, most importantly, is COMPLETELY FREE. The minor differences between the neworks become meaningless when you factor the prices into the equation and from where I'm sitting free looks much prettier than $60/£40.

Reliability

I have had 3 xbox 360s... all of which suffered from Red Ring of Death. I don't know what the official percentage is but it's said to be around 40-50% of all Xboxs that die prematurely. This, in my eyes, is unacceptable and unforgivable.

Exclusives

There's just simply more exclusives on PS3 that appeal to me. It was a different story in 2007/8 but now the 360 line-up is looking very weak indeed. It's ironic that after they've released a slim console and supposedly fixed the RROD issues that Microsoft has decided to abandon it's core user base and concentrate on Kinect which, to me, is about as appealing as the eyetoy was back in 07... not very. In my very humble opinion, if you haven't played most of these: God of War 3, Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, Resistance, Killzone 2, MGS4, Motorstorm, InFamous... then you can't really call yourself a gamer. The PS3 is defining core gaming now and from the look of future releases will continue to dominate in this area for the remainder of the generation.

Trophies

I never understood why some people collected achievements on the 360, it's just an arbitrary number with no depth or easy skill assessment. When I got my first platinum trophy though I knew that it was something special. The tiered system that Sony has implemented here is genious and adds layers to the ideas that MS stumbled upon. The level system gives a general idea of a persons skill/time as a gamer but looking closely at their trophies you can easily see just how many of them are gold, silver or platinum, which are much harder to achieve. This means that people who just buy loads of games but don't finish most or rush through for points can be easily exposed. This is a problem that I used to lament while paying for an XBL gold.

Well, there you have it, some of my opinions thoroughly put 'out there' try not to hate but feel free to discuss in the comments, thanks for reading.

Uncharted 2 is probably the most visually stunning game on consoles and it's exclusive to PS3.

me too, lol
Unlike most fanboys, I just genuinely don't like the xbox, so it's annoying when people mis-interpret that as fanboyism :(
plus, I hav a Wii, which i actually play more of nowadays than my ps3!!!

ps3 is better imo, but i just know some fanboy will come up and diss this completely, calling ME a fanboy, and the writer as well probably lol

are people not allowed to have opinions anymore?!?!? i can understand if an xbox guy has an actual reason for not liking the ps3, but if he hates it because it isn't the console he uses, then dude - that's just SAD.

One year it's PS3, the other it's xbox 360.

The only reason I keep my xbox 360 around is because I can party chat with my friends which is a BIG let down for me on PS3. However I like how I do not have to pay for PSN. Steam has better online then 360 and yet it is free which also pisses me off. If all my friends sold their 360's I would too.

I agree with everything except the trophy system. It does a better job at determining a players skill than achievements, but it's still not there yet.

Some people just have more time to play games than others, and that alone gives them a greater chance of achieve those high trophies, simply most platinum force you to get every other trophy, and many golds are very time consuming.

But all your other reasons are legit.

I'm mostly a PC gamer, but I also own a PS3. I think it makes a better complement to my PC than the 360 for all the same reasons as the author. Since most of the 360 exclusives are also on the PC, it seems redundant to own one. I use my PC for FPS and RTS games because I believe the graphics and controls are better (keyboard and mouse all the way!). However, my PS3 also gets lots of work due to all the great Sony exclusives plus I get the console only games that skip the PC like Red Dead Redemption (man, that game would have been great on the PC). I believe the PC and PS3 are a match made in Heaven and make a great combo for the gaming enthusiast.

I don't see why everyone is still arguing over consoles. Dude, everybody likes something over the other. Whether you prefer PS3, PC or 360, they are all awesome gaming machines. One may do one thing better than the other, while its competition does another thing better than it. Can gamers stop being so goddamn one dimensional? Be a real gamer and just PLAY THEM ALL!

Most important for any gamer is to look at the titles that are available, the price of the machine and then decide which appeals more to *them*, rather than listening to what other people think.

Personally, I prefer the PC over any console. (And yes, we do have the 3 major consoles in our household. Only the '360 gets some use from time to time, due to the titles we own on it. The playstation is sitting in a box and the Wii hasn't been turned on for at least 8 months.)

No, what it needs is 3D Dot Game Heroes, or Tenchu... Anything other than yet another Souls style game. They're a one-trick pony now. As much as I love Souls games and Elden Ring. It's sad to see them fall into a one-game studio when they have other IP's they're just sitting on.

Not it isn't. It's a multiplayer spin-off, not a Bloodborne sequel. There's definitely demand for a proper Bloodborne sequel.
