Too Human: Sony fans favorite Xbox game?

For those out there who have been going on the Xbox 360 channel of N4G  lately, you'll find a lot of Too Human reviews. This is to be expected, considering it is being released tomorrow. But if you dig a little deeper, and look at the comments for the Too Human reviews, a new story will tell itself. A story of PS3 fans, and Xbox fans, and those who don't give a crap either way.

Fanboyism is stupid. It's a fact. If you prefer a console, that's one thing. All consoles have something to offer. PS3 has MGS 4, Little Big Planet and God of War. The Xbox 360 has Halo 3, Gears of War, and Fable 2. The Wii has Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, and Zelda. There are plenty of other games that I haven't mentioned for all three platforms, but I chose a couple of the big hitters. The point is, if you choose a single console, say the Xbox 360, and defend it vehemently, you're going to miss tons of PS3 and Wii exclusives that are worthwhile. It's okay to prefer a console, and defend it when things get out of hand, but if you attempt to call all other consoles obsolete, or useless, your just asking to be hated by everyone.

Back to Too Human though. I read comments from PS3 fans that say the Xbox 360 just got "Hazed", as in Sony's first-party game that didn't perform too hot in the reviews department. That's fair enough. But things begin to get out of hand when you find a positive Too Human review. People accuse Xplay of being an Xbox loving game reviewer. Even though they are heavily backing Little Big Planet, going so far as naming it game of  show at E3. Another site gave Too Human a better score than MGS 4, and over half the people there jumped onto the "Microsoft payed em' off" bandwagon, without even considering that perhaps someone could like something different than them. Which I suppose is at the core of what the problem with fanboyism is.

The fact that people can't accept differences of opinion is a problem. I would love to imagine a place where we don't have to argue. Where everyone can share their opinions and not be talked down to because "I'm right and you're wrong". But alas. A place such as that cannot exist. Not in the current state of gaming anyways. Everything is a competition. Competition between companies is good. It gets us great games. But there's no reason that we as gamers have to pick a single console to defend and only play. When you only get a third of the offerings, where's the fun?

maybe it's your fanish impression that gives you that idea... I think that what most PS3 players feel is something like the following.

1) Haze was not first party (a correction to your post) and it is a fair comparison in that it meets the following condition

-> games multiple times delayed that don't live up to the hype.

2) the Too Human concept is interesting, maybe with a few more years of polish and a developer that could remain on target it would have been better. unfortunately the developer are complete asses and basically sabotaged their own game.
2b) they should have canned the project 7 years ago - and started fresh with a new concept rather then 10 years of false starts and failed promises. Game would be better for it.

3) All the three systems have great games.

4) as for too human haveing a better score then MGS4 ... questionable score but possibly related to the reviews feeling on narrative stylings. MGS is definitely the more polished of the two but some people have issues with Kojima's narratives. EVERY reviewer is entitled to their Opinion as I am in ignoring such.

Too Human 6.8 / 10 on Metacritic.

Haze 5.5/10 on Metacritic.

JoelR6143d ago

hmmm never said anything about score did I...
just that it is a game that was delayed multiples of times and that it doesn't live up to prerelease hype.

And socomnick your point is? Do you people not read before you rate what is said?

edit-
Gah am sounding defensive... I could care less about these disagrees - I do care that they didn't read what I said (or that they have an intelligence deficieny that doesn't allow them to understand it) though.

Maybe PS3 owners would have something to like about it if it wasn't starting to bomb in all the reviews.

...its simple human nature. The league of Xbox360 fanboys flamed ps3 because of lair and haze, its only normal for the PS3 fanboys to flame too human.

Some people though have flames for the game for the sake of the game, I myself was pretty disappointed with the demo and feel that its too sloppy in controls and animation.

Its just this, fanboys are gonna constantly do what they're gonna do. Trying to stop it is like.....trying to completely remove racism from the world. Its just not gonna happen. We can enforce 'civil rights' in the comment area, but there will still be those fanboys who're gonna say sly remarks, use satire, or passive aggressive tactics to poke fun and unleash their fanboy ways.

Its futile to stop it, just overlook them and be done with it.

...Critics are just critics. They have opinions just like everyone else, and just like everyone else are unique: even if they have a twin. That being said, people put faith in the critics more so than their own ability to think for themselves. When that happens, your article happens.

Here's a rule of thumb I use to buy a game or not:

1. If there's a demo, there's no critic. I am more than capable of taking a piece of a game and determining if I like it or not. It's no different than taking a bite out of an apple to see if it's to your liking. Before I take a bite out of the apple, I can "feel around" for bad spots. And I needn't eat the whole apple to know that I will like the apple as a whole.

2. If there's no demo, there's my feeling about the game. If it's strong, the game gets bought. If not, it doesn't. Lair I had a strong feeling about, so I got it. HAZE I didn't get: The feeling was strong, but the feeling for MGS4 was stronger.

But I would also take the opportunity to point out that despite your article you must remember that it was the 360 fans that were talking just as much about Lair and HAZE when it came out; it's nothing but the 360's comeuppance; and in as far as ratings, PLAY rated Lair 90%, and people also said they were fanboys or paid off.

As it is said; turnabout is fair play.

I realized that I had the wrong title for it. But it was late, and I just wanted to post it up.

My blog post wasn't anti-Sony. And as I said, PS3 fans saying the Xbox just got "Hazed" was fair enough, because I assumed that the Xbox fans had done the same thing to Haze (and apparently Lair). In my third paragraph, I pointed out that I just found it stupid how many people were calling Xplay Microsoft centric, when they were heavily backing PS3 games. And then I stated that some people couldn't accept other peoples opinions, such as Too Human being worth and 8.8.

As I said, I'm not a hardcore fan of any console. I own an Xbox and a Wii, and am going to buy a PS3 once I've saved up enough money.

This isn't a reply to anyone in particular. I'm just posting this to say that I'm not a fanboy for Microsoft.

GiantEnemyCrab6142d ago

Great post and you are %100 on the mark. I am a 360 fanboy and I agree both sides can be bad but what I've seen with Too Human goes beyond anything that I saw Lair or Haze get. The multiple accounts, the alt sources, the ytmd's it is a lot worse than I ever saw with Lair and Haze. If anyone can link to similar treatments for Lair and Haze I will shut-up about it.

silverchode6142d ago

the majority of this site is pro sony so what did you expect when too human got low reviews. Haze had little hope since it was released between gta and mgs4. Too human had a better chance at being the next big thing since it had no competition, thats why it got hated on worst also nasim worked over time to bash this game.

Stickguy2596142d ago

I do get the feeling that this site is heavily pro Sony, just from what I've seen. I don't have a problem with there being fans of a specific console, but there's a limit to how far it sould go.

P.S. I would say the exact same thing if I felt N4G was heavily pro Microsoft or Nintendo.

How The ROG Xbox Ally Perfectly Aligns With Microsoft’s Strategy

Shaz from Pixel Swish: "The ROG Xbox Ally is another step towards Team Xbox’s 'Play Anywhere' strategy, and perfectly embodies the company’s future and how we’re all going to be playing an 'Xbox' in the future."

The funny thing about Xbox going more PC-like is that I’ve been saying this for over a decade and finally seeing it come to fruition. People use to hate the idea, but now are embracing it, and all I want is to be put on the payroll lol.

On a serious note, I think this is the best route going forward for MS. They don’t have to get out of the hardware game altogether. They can make their home console $300 entry & $600 premium home consoles and from there partner with other hardware makers for anything beyond that. Focus on being a publisher and creating a strong OS / Cloud option for other devices like desktop, handheld PCs, streaming devices, etc…

I honestly think they should also look into NVIDIA as well, with NVIDIA starting to make their own CPUs. Their CPU is already on par with AMDs best laptop CPUs of the previous/current generation which is more than enough, and a RTX 5000 / 6000 laptop GPU hybrid (DLSS 4 / DLSS5) could do wonders for them, and bring some much needed diversity back to console hardware.

I saw this years ago. I don't see how it took this long for people actually close to the industry.

Abnor_Mal44m ago

I said this years ago, mind you I know nothing about computers, but I always thought Xbox would go more PC-like.

As I said, and always said, I know squat about PCs, so I thought Xbox would become modular. I don’t know if that’s the right word, but I thought they would build a basic frame/shell and gamers would be able to configure their Xbox how they wish, similar to PC and buy motherboards, sound cards and graphic cards. I don’t know if that’s practical or even possible though.

This was when they first entered the gaming space.

Lots of Improvements Coming to MythForce on June 26

"First-person roguelikes like Gunfire Reborn and Roboquest can be quite fun when done well. Another such game is MythForce, which comes from Beamdog, the developer that brought Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 to modern platforms (while mostly ditching the co-op). MythForce features cartoon-like visuals and a fantasy theme, making it quite different from most of its peers. It will soon reach its "final form" via the upcoming Version 1.2 update," says Co-Optimus.
