Sony Playstation 3 vs. Microsoft Xbox 360

Even though there are rumors that seem very convincing of a ps3 slim and a price cut, I'm just basing this off my experiences, my preferences, and my consoles.

1. Design
The 360 although being white, does fit into my space nicely, its just that ugly big grey power block that annoys me, but it doesn't bother me too much when its behind my tv stand. I also bought an intercooler for the 360 which attaches to the back. The fan is just way too loud, especially with the intercooler. Since this is my second 360, I'm taking a lot care of it, to make sure it doesn't get RROD. The PS3 on the other hand is sexy, and reliable. I own the 60gb console(the sexiest sku, i can explain later why later) I've noticed that its a dust magnet though. The power cable and hdmi cable aren't much of a bother. The fan is somewhat loud, but then you turn on the 360, and it feels like its not running. And usually, the sound from the games drains out the fan noise.

PS3 is the clear winner here

2. User Interface
Both interfaces feel solid. The NXE just feels good to use. There's no problem with loading in game dashboard, and no lag. The simplicity of the xmb makes it feel nice to use. Everything's laid out easily and organized simply. In-game, the xmb can get a little laggy(sometimes), and trophies take some time to load, but nonetheless, it feels simple and easy to use.

Okay, I don't think I need a description for this:

4. Software
I'll start off by saying that I buy psn games, single player games, and exclusives for my ps3. I buy most multiplat multiplayer games on 360(mainly because I like the controller better, and most of my friends have 360's so...) Both consoles have some killer exclusives, but I think we all can agree, this year and early 2010(im looking at god of war specifically), the ps3 has the best exclusives list. IN MY OPINION, ps3 exclusives seem to dominate, but multiplats is where it seems to lack. But, these days multiplats are appearing to perform the similar on both consoles.

5. XBL vs. PSN
I remember back in the day, when psn just sucked. Now it has really improved a lot. When you're on xbl, it just feels right. Anyone with live knows this "feeling". It just feels good. There's no lag comparing trophies/achievements, accepting friends requests, viewing your friends and their profiles, everything is seamless. The $50 price tag... many fanboys argue that psn has the useful features for free, and its great... psn gets the job done, but that $50 per year gives you a great experiences when dealing with the friends list.

Of course everyone has different opinions and feelings toward this matter. There's a lot more categories to talk about that either the ps3 of the 360 could've won. It all comes down to this, get whatever you feel is right, or get both. Both are great systems. In my opinion, the 360 feels good to use. The ps3 has amazing games.

Considering the categories used, this was a really good attempt to be fair and balanced. I know what you mean about the 60gb PS3 being a dust magnet. I also find that to be the case with my Elite. My house is not spotless but we keep it clean. Somehow the dust manages to find it's way to both my PS3 and 360. I think the dust is what killed my PS3. I'll be getting it fixed soon enough.

So you use an intercooler do ya? Well this may keep your 360 from the big melt down but the problem with intercoolers are they tend to suck in the dust.Consoles are dust magnets to begin with so this may not be such a good idea considering dust also kills consoles.

The 360 design is horrilble. Possibly worst ever. Then they advertise it right side up, wich is the surest way to get RROD. I have a shiny 60gig model. The dust shows more. But when I wipe it I get less dust then 360. White sucks. It's doesn't show dust, and it shows dirt on the controller.

But the biggest annoyance I have concerning the 360 is the noise mine makes, seriously sounds like a freaking jet engine, do you know any way of fixing this without having to pay over 60 bucks for it?

On the software you're wrong.

The 360 has more then 300 extra in its library, more genres are filled then on the PS3.

The 360 has 156 games on or above 8 out of 10
PS3 has 113 games on or above 8 out of 10

Well lets look at some numbers (or facts )then, and I'll use NineTeenSeventyNines numbers because this is where you get your info from.

NineTeenSeventyNine says "Ps3 has 381 and 113 games rated 80% and 12 games rated 90%"

"Xbox has 682 games 156 rated 80% and 20 games rated 90%"

I think you would agree that we get our numbers from the same source.

Ps3 total= 125/381 = 33% of games rated higher then 80%
360 total= 176/682 = 26% of games rated higher then 80%

Ps3 has 256 or 67% of games rated less then 80%
360 has 506 or 74% of games rated less then 80%

So here is my point TheMartatXboxkings, using the numbers from your source "NineTeenSeventyNine" ; you still fail to show any advantage that the 360 may have over the PS3.Infact you're only proving that the PS3 games are more about quality and not quantity.

So TheMartatXboxkings before you come out flaming your peers maybe you should do the math first and get your facts straight because you only make yourself look like an asshole.

The average gamer isn't going to go out and purchase 100 games. He'll probably grab one, maybe two games a month. With so many games available on both platforms there's more than enough highly rated games out already to keep most gamers active for years, even if they don't release another game. And how many people buy a new console to play games from 2-3 years ago anyway?

You are both very right, the amount of time the ps3 has been out is undoubtedly going to affect how many games are going to be out on that console, however it is irrelevant to 99.999% of gamers if one has X amount more games rated over 80% just as long as there is a sufficient amount of games being released each month to satisfy a gamers needs.

The fact is that both have extremely good games, sure the PS3 has had a stronger line up this year but past years the 360 has had a slight edge so its only fair that the PS3 levels the playing field, because like it or not you need both to truly enjoy this generations games.

MGS4, Uncharted, Ratchet&Clank, Killzone 2, LBP, Warhawk, Folklore, GT5 prologue, Infamous, Resistance 2. Soon we will be seeing GoW III, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Ratchet&Clank ACIT, Demon Souls, White KNight Chronicles, GT5, Agent, MAG, The Agency etc...

I'm not saying that those 3 games aren't great and that the 360 doesn't have an amazing accolade of quality exclusives current and future, quite the contrary. I am merely perplexed as to why you fail to see how necessary both systems are and that writing off one merely due to a personal grudge against anything Sony. The same could be said for Sony fanboys.

In a way Fanboys like you are both good and bad, since you sometimes act as very good advocates for your system but other times you are blinded by your exaggerated preference in console and fail to see the positive things about the other console even when exposed to it, you deny it.

Amazing I found one person on n4g who's not a fanboy. Great blog. I agree with pretty much everything you said. I prefer the PS3 for reliability, exclusives, PS library (PS2 and PS1), and other little things. But I like the 360 as well multiplats and Live are the main attractions to the 360.

I play my 360 way more than my Ps3. It just sits there and collects dust

Because if your choice in game doesn't encompass the PS3s hits and top rated games then your point seems kinda irrelevant, besides if you buy mostly multiplatform games and you buy them for the 360 (personally I buy them for the PS3 because my 360 is more prone to freezing) then you'll obviously have limited use of the PS3.

The multiplatform games look better on 360 argument is undoubtedly going to arise from this and I have to say it's so minor I don't give 2 f***'s that's not the reason I buy games, obviously it would make me more likely to purchase the 360 version, however my freezing issues by far overweigh any graphical difference which in most cases is just a saturation difference (3 words; Menu, Saturation, Increase)
