Skate Demo

Good stuff mannered!

Okay first off if you are the type who doesn't like realism for skating games then this is not the one for you.  Hoping to pull off a multi-million point grind by going twice around the level and busting out 20 tricks every pole, manual, ledge, or whichever then this isn't for you.  I never was a fan of Tony Hawk for that reason.

What skate does is brings us to a game where we are happy once we land even the kickflip.  For the grinds you not only need the rail to go on but you need the right angle, speed, and height of jump.  When going on ramps you'll be happy as all if you can get off 2 tricks in one jump.  Yes my friends this skating game is trying to be real.

Starting the demo off you get the good old tutorial and how to get the basics down for your skating glory.  All tricks and jumps are pulled off with the right analog stick, grabs with the trigger and you can do spins with the left stick along with moving the board in air with the right stick.  They even have a slow motion aspect that lets you pull off some killer combos.

I cruised thru that with no worries and then I was even brought a tutorial for the recording.  I have a feeling this is going to be big.  I spent a good 20 mins on this one clip getting it spilced just the way I wanted and looking at if from different angles and screen filters till I was quite satisfied with my work.  I didn't even pull that great of trick off so if I can spend that much time just on that image how fun it would be when it's a near impossible trick!  To bad you can't save in the demo :(   (heh can't have it all)

Free roam is when I got lost in the game.  Sure there were still people around you could talk to and get some quests from (not the right term but I like rpgs so sue me).  I did play one where it's a photographer asking you to pull off a trick and grind down a small flight of stairs.  Once again this shows how hard the learning curve is.  In TH all you need to do is get somewhat close hit that top button and it's all gravy.  With Skate it took me 4 trys to get in the right position to go down the rail.  Turned out to be a pretty good pic to.

Besides those regular people to talk with you can go everywhere in the map.  The skating park they set you in for the demo had a little bit of everything from rails, jumps, halfpipes, steps, and a pool.  I skated around here till the demo kicked me out and I still wanted more.  The physics in game are great and it's all in the timing for most tricks while you can still get lucky once or twice the learning curve on this can be a bit for some players, but not many.  EA with Skate is going to give Tony Hawk some much needed competition and I can't wait for this one to get to the retailer.

Played this demo on both 360 and PS3 to which all I can say is they are very similar and it all depends on what controller you like better cuz that's really the only difference between the two.  That the naked eye could see that is.  I'm sure this will be compaired to the max once they come out but won't be needed.  If you're a skating fan start thinking about saving up for this gem.  It's something the gaming world needed for some time.

nice improvement to the clarity. Really makes everything look less blurry, especially in the distance.

really hope we see more free improvements like this on Switch 1 games.

First game I played on Switch 2. Much sharper and cleaner image compared to the original.

A lot of games that have no official Switch 2 update already run WAY better just from the hardware itself. It's fantastic getting to play all these games in a much better state. So glad I hardly played any of my Switch collection over the years, lol. This will make experiencing them for the first time so much better.
