Perfect 10s: MGS4 vs. GTA4

This is something that has really been on my mind lately. Back in April, IGN gave GTA4 a perfect ten. Along with many other game sites it got a perfect ten. Then GameRankings, it took Zelda's spot as number one. After April 29th, many gamers clearly stated that this game does not deserve a ten.
I been a GTA fan all my life, and to say maybe this isn’t the best game or GTA, but it certainly lived up to its hype. People complained that many stuff were taking out (weapons, cars, checkpoints) but you have to realize, when you add in new things you have to take the old things out. Look at Vista.
On June 13th, IGN gave MGS4 a perfect ten. There is one thing I have to say. Yes graphics are beyond greatness. Yes, the story is beyond epic, but what about the game play? About 85%of your time, you are watching cut scenes. A game is meant to be played not watch. I don’t know if you read my review, but I labeled MGS4 as a "interactive blu-ray disc."
What I am trying to say is, how can you say that GTA4 does not deserve a ten, but MGS4 should go higher than a ten? Everyone is saying something, but not backing it up. So can someone just clear this up for me? I would really like to know. Thanks.

Well one thing a little exaggeration on the 85% cutscene. But I'D say its 50/50 or 60/40 in favor of gameplay. I just believe if you fly thru the action parts then I can see where you get this impression. But on topic I liked both games a lot I would probably give the edge to MGS4 because after 20 hours plus of playing I am still interested in going back and playing. Where as GTA4 I'm pretty much done with it.
I can't really explain why people feel this way. Maybe its because MGS4 is PS3 exclusive, but I got to the point where playing GTA4 was kind of like been there done that. MAybe its because I've played all previous games so much, and MGS4 I haven't played since the first MGS. But like I said both are fun I love them both just had a little more fun with MGS4.

Not the game I played. MGS4 is a game you can play multiple times in many different ways. Stealth or action may be used to great effect. Personally, it was fun mixing up the action w/ stealth and visa versa. The type of gun you use, the customization of that gun, your octocamo, and management of ammo/items is particularly rewarding. Also, if you rush through the game, you are bound to miss easter eggs, hidden guns and weapon attachments. Want to have fun with the guards? Plant a mine, get their attention and watch the scene unfold...take a picture or two. This game has infinite replay. Anyone saying the game has more cutscenes than gameplay, rushed through the game, and didn't enjoy it as much as they could have.

GTA4 was overhyped trash.

MGS4 is the greatest game of all time.

You decide.

85% cut scene???!!!are you sure you had played MGS4?It has about 8hours of cut scene and 15-20 hours of gameplay, and the BEST cut scene ever seen in a game,it makes DMC4 cutscene looks like TOM&jerry!

Closing6207d ago (Edited 6207d ago )

Exactly. 8 hours of cutscenes would mean the gameplay only takes 1 hour, and 20 minutes. What a bogus claim.

When in all reality it's 8 hours of the most intense cutscenes in history, which YOU CAN SKIP if you don't have an attention span because you were byproduct of a failed parental unit/school system. Coupled with the very finest story in gaming history, and around 15 hours of some of the deepest gameplay, which you'll want to play again due to all the possibilities, and the addiction of a decent online feature. Now I'm no math major, but how 8 is 85% of 15 is anybodies guess.

You clearly havn't played MGS4, and no GTA hasn't lived up to the hype. Good game but no where near as good as Zelda was at it time.

AMD is really building hype around their unique partnership with Microsoft to help and build an advanced and seamless Xbox ecosystem across all Xbox consoles and devices.

I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimized chips" though? Seems ambitious.

Next year´s Xbox Showcase already looks promising and exciting. Here´s hoping they deliver.

Some odd, deliberate wording, no branding, not 'Xbox consoles, Xbox handhelds' specifically, feels and sounds like they're building towards hardware that anyone can be used or licensed to/by themselves and other manufacturers.

Multiplatform software and hardware 'Xbox/AMD APU'.

I guess you missed Sarah Bond´s next generation Xbox announcement this week, were she clearly states:

"I´m thrilled to share that we´ve established a strategic multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices, including, *our* next generation *Xbox consoles*."

But hey, I don´t think you´re entirely wrong, maybe MS will build their own Xbox consoles while licencing other manufactures to build and sell their own Xbox branded consoles. Who knows

Shares vision....we provide chips for money, this deal will sell many chips, we will make lots of money...good vision

The marketing behind this is so heavy that I worry about the actual outcome. Why are they just not showing us the product, why all this talking in market speak?
