Why Nintendo Should Put Mario On PS4 and Xbox One?

It might sound crazy when you first think about it, but don’t let that stop you from thinking about it.
Because as crazy as it sounds there is some genius to this madness.

Ok Forget about the fact that Nintendo would never allow that to happen. This is a blog post there are no rules, we can let the mind go to a place that doesn’t exist - Let’s just pretend for a second that Nintendo had a new genius CEO, a Steve Jobs if you will.

And let’s say that he saw the future, and he decided the best thing for Nintendo to do to help bring Nintendo back on top of gaming was to set Mario free. Wait a second?

Then he said, "his big plan was to bring Mario to PS4 and Xbox One."

Crazy right, how in the world is that going to bring business to Nintendo? Well what if he told you he had a genius idea, because when he was young he too played Mario on Nintendo 64 and feel in love with that type of game. He also believed that games sell systems, not the other way around.

You may have heard of the Trojan horse story before but this would be the best execution of that theory you have ever seen. The new plan would be simple enough, you set Mario free, by remaking Super Mario 64 that was on Nintendo 64 - it would have new HD graphics and be tweaked for next gen consoles.

But why? Well that part is simple, there are no games like it on today's systems. Today’s next gen games are so far advance from those days of gaming, that game companies don’t even think like that anymore.

There are no mascot games, no sonic, no Mario, no crash bandicoot. So bringing back a game like that and then putting it on all consoles and on iPhones, and iPads, to get maximum exposure is a genius move. And after you have millions of people who will play this new version and love it, you release the next one which of course will be only on the Nintendo Wii U. Bringing new and old fans back to Nintendo.

Did you know that when the iPod first came out, it was only on Mac’s, so if you wanted an iPod you had to own a mac. But one day Steve Jobs realized that if he wanted iPods to really be big (since Mac’s only had about 5% of the computer world) he was going to have to bring them to PC’s. (even though at that time PC’s were considered to be the enemy) And that’s just what he did, he released iPods onto PC’s and the rest is history as the iPod became the biggest selling MP3 player of all time. So what’s the worst that could happen, Mario ends up selling millions and millions of copies becoming one of the biggest games ever sold.

When your selling something, the more people who see the product who are potential buyers, the more chances you have of selling that product to more people. So if Mario was set free for just one game, his exposure would sky rocket and the amount of people who would want to play the next Mario game would consider buying a Nintendo Wii U, that kind of exposure you can’t buy, and you don’t get it from just advertising. You have to point people in the direction of the Wii U, and a game like Mario is the kind of game that can do just that. This is also the reason why Nintendo doesn't get YouTube, because they are doing it wrong, if someone wants to show why I should buy a Wii U and play these games because they are that good, you don't say, "oh give me some of your earnings because your promoting my product." That's called free advertising. Why in the world would you stop that.

At the end of the day they lose nothing because they still own the IP and the next Mario would only be on the Wii U or the new Nintendo NX which would cause those people who played it on PS4 and Xbox One to think about getting a Wii U, something they are most likely not thinking about doing right now. Can one game sell a system, sure, especially when that one game is a game like Mario.

Right now the Wii U needs to give people who already have a PS4 or Xbox One a reason to want to own a Wii U, or a reason to move towards their new system Nintendo NX. You can always tell someone why, but nothing works better than showing them why. Let’s face it, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft don’t hate each other, so they can do business with each other. Hell Samsung still makes parts of the iPhone even though they are in direct competition with Apple.

What do you think, could it work, I think it would, social media is huge, and it’s a huge factor in selling a game, but would you buy a Mario game if it came out for PS4 or Xbox One?

do you really? Are you talking about Minecraft.. LoL

mikeslemonade3641d ago

That would be best for the gamers is if Nintendo just made software on the current gen hardware.

I play it on the original xbox and yeah it's awesome. I can play it in 1080i or 720p too.

@Blogpost

Why would playing a Mario game on PS4 make me want to play it on Wii U? If anything I would want the next to be on PS4 instead of playing another that will look worse on Wii U. Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, and Super Mario 3D World look good on Wii U but the bad anti-aliasing just makes me wish they were on PS4 since it wouldn't have noticeable aliasing. Of course when Wii U emulation becomes a thing on PC we will be able to make the game look much smoother.

Well, i have say that would be awesome ! Mario 64 is my favorite Nintendo first party game of all time! Heck let's take to to another level . Stop making Nintendo home consoles period . Wow , can you imagine all those great IP's like Metriod , Zelda , ect.and some new Nintendo IP's on all platforms . So many dads and moms today have a PS3 , XBOX360 , PS4, XBOX1 . I thinks a lot famlies can not afford to buy another console for their kids . But to buy a single Mario game on Sony or Microsoft console they already own is more affordable

Even though i have not bought a Nintendo console since the 90's, i still have a lot of love for Nintendo .

DefenderOfDoom23637d ago

The really bad side about Nintendo dropping home console's is that Nintendo's first party developers would have to develop for more platforms . I think developers make better games when they only have to focus on one platform.

Crazyglues3633d ago

Why would they drop home consoles?
