MS marketing is messed up and Sony got it right

People have been saying that Sony should take a leaf out of MS's book in marketing games but I don't agree. In fact I think MS's marketing is messed up and here is why.

1. You shouldn’t spend millions upon millions to market a game that is already guaranteed to sell millions. Halo 3 and Gears 2 are good examples. The reason why there is marketing for a product is to ensure it will sell. Did Halo 3 and Gears 2 need it? I don't think so. On name alone Halo 3 and Gears 2 will sell themselves.

2. MS's fetish for the hardcore market and their disproportional spending in marketing core games and casual games. MS's with their marketing strategies have always come across to favor the hardcore gamers. Why aren't there any mountain dew Banjo drinks? MS have done a good job in diversifying their lineup this gen which includes casual gems like Viva but where is the Gears 2 level of hype and ads for viva or Banjo?. You see. The message MS is sending out to the casuals with their marketing strategies is that only the hardcore matters and others are just afterthought. Well guess what? MS like Sony needs the casual to sustain their growth.

If you compare this to Sony. It’s completely the opposite. Sony never discriminates between gamers or games. Sony gives equal importance to all their games with their marketing strategies. If you look at all major PS3 games so far like Uncharted, MGS4, HS,LBP,RC TOD,R1,R2. All of them had similar level of advertisement from Sony. The overall message Sony is sending is that all these games are important and so are all the different gamers that love them.

Even with GT5. I doubt Sony will put in a Super Bowl ad lol!.

It is all part of their propaganda plan... they want everybody to know that they have a great game... puts the xbox in people's minds. BIG BOSS will snap necks for this.

Microsoft puts there eggs all in one basket. Most of the marketing goes to one game every year. 1st year Gears, 2nd year Halo 3, and 3rd year Gears 2. This is why they don't got many 2nd party or 1st party developers because they won't be treated fairly with the amount of marketing as the top game. Microsoft is inexperienced in the gaming industry and soon the bad things will catch up to them. We already seen the faulty hardware because rushed the system out.

That's just, like, your opinion man.

At least thats what the Dude would say. Walter on the other hand would have just shot you by now.

rofl no wonder your usual posts are idiotic and blind. I hope u are never hired as a sales rep since u cant grasp simple logic. Of course you need advertising, even sony admit it themselves that they need to step it up in order to compete. jeez

hopefully VRR via a firmware update is released for docked play as well (like the PS5 did post release)

There's actually a pretty long list of games on PS5 that support 120hz. Even more with 60+hz unlocked, and that isn't even counting PS5 Pro.

err...is it even HDMI 2.1 on that thing?

repsahj4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Yes, according to the dock teardown. It contains HDMI hardware chip of Realtek RTD2175N that supports 4K 120hz. And the HDMI included on the Switch 2 is HDMI 2.1.

I'm happy for Nintendo. Even though the Switch 2 has received so much hate just to bring it down, it hasn't won. Even though some are saying they'll boycott Nintendo, it hasn't affected sales. Especially now, with word of mouth that the system is good, demand for the Switch 2 will definitely increase more.

Profchaos9h ago

Yeah loud minorities that were not going to buy it anyway

Profchaos9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

But But the internet told me the switch 2 was going to be a failure.

Such a good system im having a blast with it and really enjoying my first ever playthrough of yakuza 0

babadivad8h ago

Sold through or to the stores? Asking because they're tons of them at my local Best Buy. When the PS5 and Series consoles launched, you couldn't find them anywhere.

OtterX6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

The article clearly says sold. If it were shipped, it would say shipped.

Nintendo had been saying the last year or so that they would be flooding stock so that scalpers would not be an issue. They've followed through with their word. It's not cutting edge tech, so it's been easier for them to sit on stock for a while until it accumulated to a massive number available to be shipped.

Good-Smurf7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Good for them, I'm still not buying.
Looks to be a pretty safe and boring upgrade over Switch 1 which I don't think they can top it on how plain looking it is design wise.
Shame since Switch Lite showed they still know how to make a handheld that looks good and is actually portable in a classic Nintendo sense.
That's why I got one over Switch 2's block of charcoal.
Then there's the prices of it all and the whole Key card thing destroyed any sense of game ownership.

Profchaos6h ago

There'll be a number of revisions for the s2 like a s2 lite or oled also seems inevitable

Good-Smurf5h ago

Unless they drop the prices and actually has a more portable variant that can also dock then maybe I'll reconsider but as of now, nope too big too boring and expensive to make it worth this early, not enough of its own games atm as well.

Profchaos4h ago

Who knows removing the dock capabilities would lower the cost of the unit pretty significantly.

The cost of the dock, reduction in shipping costs etc bug savings which will enable a cheaper system
