Battlefield 3 PC vs PS3 comparison

EA and DICE have released the first video footage of Battlefield 3 running on the PS3, and eagle-eyed FPS fans have already begun poring over the footage, and rooting out glaring discrepancies between the two.

yes, and that's because PCs constantly get better. Consoles are stuck with the technology they had from the generation during which they were released. Also, consoles aren't exactly open to formats intended for different platforms.

Larger Battlefield fanbase on consoles than PC? Your joking right? There are more players logging on in BFBC2 on PC than both consoles combined at any given time. If you were talking about COD this might be true, but BF? Definitely not.

Battlefield has always been larger on the PC. It's the reason why every battlefield game has been developed first on the PC.

And there are tons of players on Battlefield 2 still. Before Bad Company, Battlefield was always a PC-only franchise, aside from the crappy Battlefield 2 Xbox port. If the BF fanbase is anywhere, it's on PC.

Thank goodness they labeled which was which. We would have never figured that one out. LOL.

That said, I do think that the console version are looking quite good. All the footage I've seen of the various versions have looked very sharp.

Here we go.. Why cant anyone just accept the fact that a game can have excellent graphics? Why are these comparisons necessary? Honestly, I dont believe the average gamer pays that much attention to certain details like textures, lighting, and/or shading? This cannot mess up your gameplay experience at all. If you think any game is superior over stuff like this you are just nit picking. I thought in game content like the 64 players is what should matter the most.

People on N4G seem to think it is the most important thing ever. They must play games looking at the floor and walls to examine the textures.

You make a valid point, and I agree, but humans subconsciously can tell when something looks more realistic than another. We've seen the real thing before. We've seen real gravel, real walls, and cement. We KNOW how these things look in the real world. And although the untrained eye may not be able to point out the highest res texture, or the motion blur effects of gravel and dust kick-up moving through space, it IS noticed. These things make a difference. Whether you want them to or not. :)

and for the below my first. Again, I TOTALLY Agree. I bought the last BF game day-one and this will be a day-one buy for me as well. DICE remained true to their promise, they will make the game FEEL the same as the PC version, and they have.

Also alot of you are forgetting the quailty of the console version is not the same as the PC version. Since it was on on a TV show and wasn't a actual HD trailer(you know what I mean).

exactly my point buddy . allot of people are quick to criticise but i called bull$hit on these comparisons cause the pc footage has a 1080p trailer out but the ps3 footage is taken from tv and even there on the show they were recording from onother screen so no fair again i call bull$hit for comparing 1080p footage with watered down tv footage . cant wait to see a 720p trailer tho anxious to see some details on the ps3 but as is it still looks verry close and gorgeous so im happy. dam cant wait

they amp up the graphics for the single player on consoles. The game is linear to my knowledge so I think they can sacrifice somethings in the console SP to make it look better. They are going to have to anyway because of the coop.

Oh how wonderful. Usually, the rants are PS3 vs 360, now its PC vs console... Anyways, PC does and always will have the advantage because PC always gets new tech every now and then, compared to the once-awesome then sub-par tech of consoles. Take the PS3, whose footage was shown. At the current generation, the PS3 is clocked at 3.0 Ghz on a dual-core processor with graphics that severely lag behind current PC standards, and it's been that way for 5-6 years. I own a PS3. I'm satisfied with the graphics and performance, and consoles really do have spectacular graphics, too (Uncharted). Anyways, point is, you can say PC is superior to console, but you can't actually be rude about it. Consoles are limited to what they came out with. PCs constantly get better. Also, DICE's main focus was for PC on Battlefield 3. It's staying loyal to its first consumer base. As for consoles, don't worry! Game still looks fantastic and it's pre-alpha, so improvements will be added for each platform (I'll vouch for PS3, it's better with graphics than 360). However, I still may switch to PC...

I'm ok that the ps3 version will look inferior to pc. Some pc players are proud that their technology keeps evolving and getting better, and that is good in some respects. However, you have to spend some serious cash to upgrade your gear. Top of the line pc's cost thousands of dollars, and thats money I don't have. I would much rather get a ps3 or 360 for 300 and never have to worry about it again. It still looks pretty great on ps3 too.

As I already said several times before, and as a (mainly) PC gamer, I really hope BF3 will look good on consoles, even to the point of matching with their exclusives. That would mean graphically cutting edge games can be developed on PC while being correctly ported to current-gen consoles, so other multiplat devs would follow in DICE's footsteps which would be better for everyone (we would all have the best graphics possible for our platforms).

But to be honest, this demo of BF3 on PS3 didn't impress me. I don't know, it may have something to do with that TV quality (I'm not talking about the off-cam recording but the direct stream) which doesn't seem to do justice to the raw footage. I would like to see a clearer image and I hope we'll have more console gameplay, this time directly coming from DICE/EA.

Just as a reminder also: we did see the Frostbite 2.0 engine running on PS3 even before this JF show with NFS: The Run at E3. While obviously the ressources a racing game demands compared to a FPS is different, I thought it looked pretty good.
