They need to produce less heat, play 3D games and moves in at least 60 fps. I want them to replace my cable box, play last gen games online still, play pc games via steam. I want to play total war on my ps4 or xbox. Good graphics, ha! I'm with with 720p as long everything runs smooth. I need it to run adroid apps store, pandora connectivity from my phone to the machine like I can with my cell.

There needs to be an epic increase despite the price tag, and i can say why. usually few buyers buy a console when its out. most of the time the populous tends to wait for games to come out anyways.

It's during that time in a console's lifespan it can be expensive. It's when games start pumping out you'll see the console's price drop.

it was the same for blu-ray, it was like $1,000 on its release, but now that its been out for so long and its got tons movies too, its now cheaper.

technology needs to be at its best for future enjoyment, and if you can't afford it, just hold on to your ps3 or 360 a little bit longer. :)

I disagree. Start pumping out high-quality titles for less money and in less time and it will be a win-win.
Graphics is nice, but it also takes a lot of time to make and a lot of money. Plus it makes the cost of the consoles sky-high.

I agree. I want the games to look better next gen but not in the way Epic wants them to be.

It's easy for Epic to make these kind of claims, but at the end of the day, it is Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo that have to cover the manufacturing costs of the hardware needed to run such games.

I disagree. They can make high quality games this generation without the need for new consoles. I never get why people always claim they would prefer higher quality games over graphic in a new console. They can work on making better games on the current generation. The whole point of a new generation is to introduce something new or something that can do better than it's predecessor.

Epic does seem to be going on a crusade to push next gen hardware makers to meet the needs of their expectations. As of right now they seem frustrated that console makers are delivering under powered specs in their eyes.

For one, Epic's only on one console, so they can't possibly have that many complaints. And given that they likely knew EXACTLY what they were getting themselves into early on in the gen- like, say, when they got the dev kits- they really don't have a right to complain at all.

I don't even think they've done all they can do on the one console they're on, so them saying anything about what the next gen should be able to do is something that should be dismissed.

I actually do believe that Epic has pretty much pushed their console of choice to the limit. They have updated their engine plenty of times to meet the needs of the consumer. Gears of War 3 looks to be the most polished, and complete shooter on the platform. So if you read this. What more did you expect out of them this generation graphics and performance wise?

If it were not for epic, this generation would have launched with 256mb of ram. I think they did the world a favor by doing what they could to push for powerful consoles. A lot of critically acclaimed games would have suffered greatly if it were not for epic complaining.

So I really want to know. What would you like for them to do?

I've never seen a console that was completely tapped out before its successor was released, let alone developed. Development of the PS3, for example, was underway well before the last few years of the PS2, which saw some amazing games.

And that's the biggest thing: the games only get better as the generation continues. If Epic were to make another game, and put in as much or more effort than they did with their last, do you not think they'd come out with an even better game?

While it's true that this current generation is starting to show its limitations, it's only when developers know what all those limitations are that they can get the most out of working within them.

lol the man spoke vague about what the power will be. What does modest mean in a computational view. Epic has their own agenda on what they want so theres no telling whats gonna happen.

If epic spent tens of millions estimating what next gen will be only to find Sony/MS wont be there yea they would be disapointed. It hurts their business.

Within the normal 5-6 year console life one expects to see a 8 time more powerful leap when next gen rolls around.

I think sony and MS will stay true to that only this gen was longer than 5-6 so EPIC was probably expecting 10-12 times more given the extra years. But that wont happen

If there's even a modicum of truth to any of the recent rumors, then I think it's safe to say that the next gen won't be a quantum leap. Heck, this gen was a bit of an experimental stop-gap of sorts in the first place. Coming into this gen, non of the big three knew whether the standard would be 1080p or 720p. Heck, the 360 didn't even offer HDMI until a later revision. Even now they're still trying to play catch-up in terms of resolution and framerate, all the while trying to meet other exacting standards such as motion control, online gaming, and 3d.

If all of those features factor into the next gen, then you can be sure that the coming generation is likely to be what this generation SHOULD have been, as opposed to a quantum leap. Do I want a quantum leap? You bet, and I wouldn't consider myself a game if I didn't. With all things considered; however, I just don't see any of the big companies pulling a rabbit out of the hat and wowing us with their new offerings.

You will still see consoles struggle to maintain high def graphics In the next generation (1080p n beyond). Not that its possible to build a console of such capability but price is a major issue. Console gamers want the hardware as cheap as possible. Sony found that out the hard way with the initial price set of the PS3 ($600). Compromise will be key. I doubt however it will be a huge leap. Thats just the hype train at full steam.
