Price and Scores: Gaming’s Dilemma

April 18th was a day marked with one difficult decision: Mortal Kombat, or Portal 2? Some preferred their weighted companion cube to torso-ripping fatalities, and vice versa, but gamers with only $60 in their wallets couldn’t choose both. Choosing between two high quality titles is much easier said than done, and more often than not a deciding factor is review scores. The system isn’t perfect however; that little number carries an abnormal amount of weight, sometimes even more than the actual review and gameplay. With only $60 to spend, the influence of scores can be the ultimate fatality to a gaming purchase, and we as consumers need to remember that a game is more than just a review score.
