GameStop Exec Says "Highly Unlikely" New PlayStation And Xbox Consoles Will Block Used Games

In the video game business, there are few subjects that draw as much debate as the sale of used games. Publishers and game developers are adamantly against this practice because it takes any profits away from the creators and puts them into the coffers of retailers. GameStop has become a leader in the very lucrative used game sales business, in which the retailer keeps 100% of the profits and often resells new releases for $50 to $55. Recently, an unidentified current GameStop employee called out the retailer on its practices, going as far as claiming that the company’s practices would be considered illegal if the government regulated the sales of used games.
