i have 60gb model since release and i can tell that i still don't have any problems

Dante1124797d ago (Edited 4797d ago )

Same here, I still have my launch 60gb Ps3. My launch 360 gave out the second month I had it, my second 360 burned out (RROD) after a good year I'd say. The 360 I have right now is running fine though. My Wii is still going strong, without any problems.

Edit: @ mike

It's uncommon for my 360 to break? I've heard that has happened to quite a few gamers to be honest.

my 05 pro 360 died in 07 just after they started the RROD program so it was fixed. It recently died again and cost me $50 to get it fixed privately. My 07 elite 360 is still going strong.

Had a ps2 I got in 02 that died just over a year after purchase so it cost me $120 to get it fixed from Sony but has been fine since. I dont play it anymore since having a bc ps3.

I do have a wii where the sound chip died just after the 1yr mark. $75 to nintendo to repair.

All my cart based systems are in perfect working order. I have a laseractive where the laser died. it would be $150+ to replace. I have a jaguar cd where the laser died and forget about fixing that one...its even expensive to find a replacement jag cd drive let alone the actual laser for it.

FlameBaitGod4797d ago

Mine died 4 weeks ago, 4 years it lasted and I use to play and watch movies on it 24/7.

Mines a 80GB MGS Bundle

People say FAT PS3 won't break down on them, but it will eventually.

falloutx4797d ago

My 80GB MGS Bundle PS3 died about a year ago, It was my fault it sometimes it was on 24 hours straight and i didn't take care of it. I have a slim now it's probably 3 times quieter lol.

Brawler4797d ago

My first PS3 60gb lasted 7months hard drive got corrupt and couldn't be repaired. The replacement died after another 6months bluray player died on it. 3rd one has been going strong since. for my 360 ive had no problems with it but that's mainly due to the fact I don't really play it.

JsonHenry4797d ago

My launch day Xbox lasted 4 years before my daughter broke it. My second Xbox I bought used lasted all of a month. The S model Xbox is still going strong.

My 60gb PS3 has barely been used but still works great.

Mr_cheese4797d ago

My launch ps3 60gb lasted near 5 years. Conked out a month ago with YLOD so I did a self repair and got it working again only if I try to launch anything from the XMB whether it be a game or playtv (psn store works) it black screens on me and goes no further so the console has become unusable.

Any suggestions will be good though cause I'd love to fully fix it?

Mr_cheese4797d ago

Unsure why I got disagrees for stating my experience?

KING854797d ago

Apparently you have had problems and people disagreed with you because you were lieing. I guess they would know better than you about your own ps3. Sigh! I question the intelligence and maturity of some of the members on this site.

Persistantthug4797d ago

If you have a launch unit, or have one with a 90nm CELL or 90nm RSX GPU, then I recommend to get the thermal paste replaced.

Mine is 65nm, but I did my 'preventative maintenance' last Sept. myself. If you look online or on CRAIGSLIST you can probably find a local shop to do yours.

(btw....I used ARCTIC SILVER....Check YOUTUBE for DO IT YOURSELF tutorials)

MrDead4797d ago (Edited 4797d ago )

80gb PS3 Fat 2008 still fine, I take the case off about every six months and vacume out the dust.

Atari Lynx 1990 still works fine

Amiga A1200 1992 still works apart from the caps lock.

MrDead4797d ago

I ment to type vacuum, not vacume

Majin-vegeta4797d ago (Edited 4797d ago )

NYC_Gamer4797d ago (Edited 4797d ago )

Hell, I've just got the one so I'll do it for you.
Bought my 360 pro just a few months after launch. It rrod'd on me about 4 months in so it wasn't covered under the original, 90 day warranty and I had to shell out $170 - but then sent me a box and it took about 3 weeks to get a replacement. At this point, you heard rumours of 360 trouble, but MS insisted there was nothing going on.

That replacement rrod'd about 8 months later. MS had extended the warranty to 1 year, but I was already outside of that at 13 months from time of purchase. Another $170 spent, but this time no box came and I just had to ship it on my own dime. I bought an extended warranty of 2 years that MS was offering at this point but it took me 2 months before I saw a console again. MS was still sticking to their "Hardware issues are within industry norms" lie at this point.

That console was gimped out of the box, I just didn't realize it immediately. I noticed it was louder than usual, I played for two weeks and then my games stopped working. It was then I realize the console was gouging rings in my games. By this time, the warranty had been extended to 3 years. Called Microsoft and they refused to take it back as "disk scratching units" weren't covered under 3 year warranty, only the one year warranty despite the fact they just shipped me the frigging unit. I brought up my extended warranty and they reluctantly took it back.
I waited another month and a bit for the replacement console. In this time period, Halo 3 came out and I was stuck with my preordered copy, wondering when I'd actually be able to play. Eventually MS sent me a refurbed console, older than the unit it replaced.

In the meantime, I spent hours of my life on the phone, being put on hold and then being hung up on trying to find out where my refund was for the 2 times I paid $170. It was supposed to be automatically mailed but MS claimed they had no evidence of either time I paid. Eventually I was able to convince them through my credit card statements that yes - they did take my money. 2 years later it was refunded.

In the middle of this somewhere, I started playing my PS3 which had just been collecting dust. I was very pro-360 for quite some time, and as I was paying for XBL anyway it made sense to keep playing - until I didn't have a console to play on. By the time I received my 4th 360 (and this time I got a free month of XBL, an $8 value! Woohoo!) I had decided the 360 simply wasn't worth the hassle considering how good a time I was having with my PS3.

I still have that 360, but I've probably played 3 games on it in as many years. I still plan to finish Alan Wake, see how Gears of War 3 wraps up and then I'll most likely get Halo 4, but other than those I see no reason to risk turning the damn thing on. I bought a 60gb PS3 at launch and a 40gb used PS3 maybe a year or so after launch. Swapped the 60gb drive with a 250gb drive for cheap. No problem with either of those so far.
And that, again, is my sorry, 360 tale. Not the first time I've told it. Probably won't be my last as console failures keep coming up. The Xbox was my fav console last gen, the 360 was my fav until all the issues I had. I see no reason why I won't be there for the next Xbox. I'll just be waiting a year or so before picking them up to make sure the hardware is sound.
Still, that's all nothing compared to my PC experiences over the years. 3 dead video cards, 2 dead motherboards, 2 dead drives, failed dvd burner, faulty memory sticks, 2 dead power supplies - owning a PC really is an ongoing project. Don't really game on it much anymore though. Not since the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era.

Bubbles for you as well!!!

The Evil Within Deserved More: A Great Horror Series Left Behind

The Outerhaven writes: While I hold Bethesda's The Evil Within series as some of the best Survival Horror games available, it's clear that Bethesda has no intention of revisiting the series. While Capcom is still working on its Resident Evil series, I look back at the now-dead survival horror series from Bethesda, wondering why the series was left wide open, and yet still not revisited.

An OK horror series left behind. It had some great ideas, but it never knew how to play to its strengths. Instead, it came out like just another RE4 clone.

I would love for a third entry to come out, but it needs to learn to lean in on the psychological aspect and move away from the generic "pew pew" ideology at the center of the gameplay loop. It doesn't need to abandon it; it just needs to put it into better context, is all.

Also, try a first-person perspective instead. Too many 3rd-person games with nothing to offer but an avatar taking precious screen space. At least make it an actual option and not that janky-ass mess the second game pretended to have.

PS5/Pro/Switch 2 version of RDR2 seems most likely. I’d love a RDR3 but that seems years away

Cacabunga10h ago

Id be happy for just a 60fps patch

OmegaSoldati9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Agreed, but at the same time RD2 came out in 2018. Could it be a remake of Red Dead 1?

Spoiler:

Marston died in the end of Red Dead and Red Dead 2 is set before that. Im curious now. What news could it be?

mkis0072h ago

I'm pretty sure the next game will be another prequel as the story really has no where to go as far as being a western after red dead redemption. The next game will end with the ferry boat incident.

Profchaos11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Their contracts are iron clas if they leak anything legit they are threatened with immense legal action.

My hopes for what this is are minimal its probably a meet and greet with the cast

I dont see why they would be involved in a upgraded version of rdr2 when the dialogue hasn't changed

thorstein7h ago

He seems to have been cleared to do this as he purposely picked up the game, streamed it, and made the announcement.

It will come out in another 1000-2000 days or so. I’d rather they remake Morrowind. After they added quest arrows, sprint button, making stats lesser and the big nerfs to spells Elder Scrolls has been too simplified. They could change that with ES6 but I don’t have much faith in modern Bethesda. I would love to be wrong
