SimCity - Deep and Complex Multiplayer

The newest version of SimCity will feature a very powerful and key focal point that will unite all of the communities and cities - Multiplayer Connect Cities!

This means, that you will be able to leverage nearby cities, call upon friends, and help drive economies up, or down of those around you. The next installment of SimCity could be the most complex city simulator ever.

The game is expected out in 2013, we'd guess the first or second quarter. It will, as expected, be available for the PC only.

Online only not because of DRM, thats a load of bull. And when it says they will use Origin, does that mean it wont be sold retail on disc?

atticus144798d ago

im sure it will be sold in retail, but you'll probably have to have an origin account and use their client.

Anyway about the article... guy craps on Maxis for not choosing steam over origin; You may want to look into the Maxis & EA relationship instead of randomly complaining....just sayin...

(hint hint: EA owns Maxis, what did you think would happen)

Lazyeye794797d ago

Good if they were going to make me download it, I wasn't going to do it legally.

If I have to pay for something, I want it to physically exist!

DeadlyFire4798d ago

I don't give a damn if it uses Orgin or Impusle or crapstick. It looks like a solid game to me. STEAM was trashed by gamers for years until it grew up to what it is today.

I am liking this new Simcity game. Looks and sounds awesome.

Yes this will be sold at retail.

Origin caused a lot of headaches for a lot of players when Battlefield 3 was released on the PC. The concerns of the same issues occurring to SimCity is pretty high. However, SimCity is looking and sounding like an amazing game, and it's "amazingness" might be enough to help us get over the whole Origin issue.

DeadlyFire4796d ago

I am one of those BF3 players. I know it was troublesome at first. Download speed for me was phenomenal and service once minimized like steam as a tray icon really didn't have much effect on the game to me.

I expect them to throw a few Origin patches at us before the Simcity Launch. Likely will improve and add new features to gather some support.

Somebody4798d ago

So I'm building my city alone, minding my own business, when suddenly I was told that my lack of progress is slowing the progress of other players around me. My city can't grow unless I'm socially networking with other players.

Can't I play the way what I want to play it instead of having others around me dictate what I should I do or how I should progress to fit their need? I had enough of those with real life at work so seeing that in a game filled with demanding strangers is not my idea of escape.

P8S4797d ago

It's still unclear at this point as to what affects others around you will have. We agree that the whole multiplayer is a great idea, it does have some potential flaws and issues. Once we find out more about this particular feature, we'll post an update for you all.

atticus144797d ago

despite hating the obvious have to play online situation (i used to play sim 4 on my laptop when the internet wasnt available) Im really looking forward to multiplayer features..but i do wonder what wondrous ways other players will think of to grief their neighbors.

P8S4797d ago

Imagine if a Nuclear Reactor had a meltdown in a nearby city, or the neighboring army decided to invade? Lots to think about and consider.

Somebody4797d ago

I'm not against online components but I am against the idea of your experience being determined by someone else no matter what you do. I understand what potential multiplayer can offer but we know how humans are. I've played team based multiplayer like in Counter Strike and BF3 so I'm aware what a good team can achieve together. I've also seen one or two players out there who's sole purpose is to grief others when things don't go their way.

Humans are predictably too unpredictable when given so much power (like a group of SimCity players determining how others/noobs should play in their server/Sim area). I've heard how players kept changing factions and backstabbing each other in the space MMO,EVE. I'm sure factions and clans will crop up in SimCity and their presence will either be a blessing or a curse for others.

When playing Total War Shogun 2 singleplayer campaign, I made sure that I've disabled the player drop-in feature. The last thing I need is some pro gamer easily defeated my Empire after hours/days of toil. If I can play singelplayer campaign in SimCity but I can only do it while online...wouldn't that mean its a form of DRM that the developer kept saying it's not the reason they are forcing permanent online connection for the game...

7 Times Games Forced Us Online (Against Our Will)

Some games force online-only measures onto people. It sucks! Especially when some titles, like these seven, 100% didn't need it.

Need for Speed as well. Here's to hope that the new one will be a return to form for the franchise.

Gaming1012853d ago

Dead Space was the worst ruining... micro transactions in a full price game, with co op that was mandatory to get all the story and access to certain areas. Sure Rock Band was oversaturated, and Burnout was basically killed off even though it sold a ton on PS3 back in the day.

indysurfn2853d ago

Wow kudos EA! no one can kill a franchisee like you can kill a franchises.

lptmg2852d ago

Sadly, Rock Band died because of Activision shoving one Guitar Hero every 3 months

Dead Space, NBA Live, & Rock Band

I really liked Burnout and Need for speed and thought no one will able to destroy this game.....I was WRONG!
