Dust 514: Is This The Future Of Online Gaming?

Play Vault:

"Reykjavik, Iceland.

Cold winds whip across a landscape of endless glaciers, howling across world-affecting volcanoes and cities that glitter like glimpses of future citadels. This is a place that feels like the edge of the world and the centre of civilisation all at once. Such a seemingly alien environment seems a fitting setting for a gathering of people united by their love of a game rooted in science fiction.

The EVE Online FanFest is a unique experience."

I kinda hope not. While Dust looks amazing and its concept is very innovative for an FPS it definatly lacks something when you look at it compared to things like BF3 or Killzone 3.

What im trying to say is that we should keep both. Dust is going to be amazing and really puts EA's F2P games to shame. The only problem is that Dust is going to require a constant fanbase for itself and EVE. Not sure if your going to find EVE players invading planets 24/7 since thats not their style at all. They're a very patient community (proven by the fact that the Titan class ships can take 3 months to build)and would definitely wait a week to invade if it gave them an advantage. Also Corporations play a BIG role in EVE and only so many of them will be able to produce the funds for an army and then the funds to control a planet.

the main problem is that cod comes out every year. I t will stomp dust.. cod sucks though. PC & Console crowds are to different. Most console gamers have a shorter attention span.

PC = "Look a game yeah!" pre orders plays with updates for at least a year.

Console = "Look a game yeah!" pre orders mega ultra killer edition. 1 month later "look a game! yeah" pre orders classic massive protection regular edition.
Even if the last game is not so different.

repeat.

Virtual_Reality4394d ago (Edited 4394d ago )

The thing is DUST 514 will be persistent and it will be evolving permanently in the same build, unlike COD or other shooters after 10 months. There is no short span for DUST 514, because is Free to play, and the expansions are free, is the first AAA F2P MMOFPS for PS3, there is going to be something new eventually, and it will increase the PS3 life span along with PS4.

We apologise for buying and enjoying alot of games. Maybe we should be like you and only buy 3 games every generation.

TekoIie4394d ago

Wait so i should only buy 1 game a YEAR??? I'd miss out on too much if i did that :3

"Console = [Look a game yeah!] pre orders mega ultra killer edition. 1 month later [look a game! yeah] pre orders classic massive protection regular edition.

That's only because on the PC in that year, no other game came out worth buying.

i never really get too excited about too much shooters but this really seems original to me.

spicelicka4394d ago

i thought this game was suppost to come out last fall-_-

TekoIie4394d ago

When CCP had a panel at Fanfest (i think 2 years ago) the questions they received showed that there was A LOT to take into consideration with this game and how they link it to EVE.

future of online games has to be like planetside 2! 2000 players online!

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies3004d ago (Edited 3004d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden3004d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave3004d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater3004d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace3004d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven3004d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater3004d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit3004d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
