Can Video Games Heal The Sick?

T-Hill writes: When I was young I remember going to the hospital a lot and they had N64 which was fun but all it really did was help me take my mind off of actually being in the hospital but could consoles like the Wii actually help the sick get better.

they can help to take a person's mind off of being sick.

On the flip side, games can even cause someone to be sick. Be it via a seizure or motion sickness from frame rate issues.

Or just generally not stopping playing and developing illnesses from general inactivity and lack of sleep.

Games used to relax me a lot when I was younger. I was always allowed to play when I had to stay home from school or something because of the way I just relaxed.

Games likely have a similar healing power to that of laughter. That feeling good mentality which translates into feeling better physically.

After all, if you can literally think yourself sick (or pregnant), why can't you think yourself well again? Within reason, of course.

Edit: It's a false pregnancy. However, given a certain psychological condition- being just a little crazy, methinks- your mind can tell your body that it's pregnant, and the body will listen, even to the point of being able to test positive on pregnancy tests, start lactating, and so on.

Some years back, in my less mentally stable days, I psychologically induced a breathing problem into myself. For the longest time, I didn't know where it was coming from. Once I figured it out, though, it just went away.

You can think yourself pregnant? There's going to be a lot of happy women.

Can video games heal the sick?

I wouldn't try it if your sickness is tendinitis.

TheSuperior 4763d ago

I would saw so because of bring the sicks mind away from being sick and also providing them with entertainment. They say laughter helps heal and if people who are very sick smile and laugh often then they get better faster. As long as they are playing the games they truly enjoy then i dont see why saying video games heal would be wrong.

Speaking as someone who uses xcloud, i havent really noticed much lag, if at all. I have used the service on a wide variety of devices. A VCR XBO, a One X, the logitech GCloud, steamdeck and my work PC. in all cases it just works and works really well. I was not interested at first in the idea of streaming a game, but then i really started using it as a way to gauge interest if a game is worth my time of downloading/installing and I just cant help but jump into new titles when they drop. I used to do the same with new releases on netflix so i can see why they make that similar proclimation.

I would have included the Uncharted games as well. Good list though.

Island would be #1 but that would be anything from Frontwing.
