The story, music, and graphics feel like a platform to showcase the developers’ programming skill, leaving the game feeling a little flat despite playing just fine.

What do you get when you take one part SNES action-RPG, one part indie development, and one part plot twist? EvilQuest, of course. An homage to bygone days of gaming, EvilQuest falls somewhere in between Crystalis for the NES and The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past for the SNES, with the unique story twist that you’re not the hero trying to save the world from annihilation, but rather the dark, powerful foe seeking to kill God himself and destroy the universe. This leads to some campy elements, as you might expect, but overall I thought it was pretty well put together.
EvilQuest is an indie action RPG developed by Chaosoft Games which gives gamers the rare opportunity to actually play a game from the bad guy’s perspective. Despite sometimes feeling bad for the senseless murders you commit throughout the course of the game, it is surprisingly fun to play as a feared evil warlord.
Chaosoft Games announced today via Twitter that their game EvilQuest will be on sale on Desura for $0.99 until December 22nd or until the world ends. Whichever comes first.
