Perhaps the Japanese development community isn't as behind the times as Keiji Inafune would lead you to believe. This open letter argues that Japan's games will lose their cultural identity if Capcom, Sega and others continue to seek westernization.
Legendary gaming auteur Hideo Kojima heaped praise on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, calling it “ideal” for one significant reason.
Greatness knows greatness. Simple as that. Expedition 33 is a masterpiece, built with a smaller team and with a smaller budget, blowing ubisoft out of the water. It doesn't matter how many devs you have and how much money you throw at it, great studios like Sandfall Interactive will always overcome you.
Hideo Kojima and PlayStation go together like hobbits and breakfasts. That is to say, they're meant to be together, but they're also happy to serve up a PC port or afternoon tea if the time is right. Kojima's long-time collaboration with Sony means it always feels odd to see his name next to an Xbox logo, like Master Chief appearing on your PS5 or glimpsing your teacher in the big Tesco doing her weekly shop.
yawn. ^ All of this opinion piece sounds like someone’s recount when they get out of the norm and go on a hiking vacation and boast about their “life changing moments” over things extremely common and accessible to everyone. Get a rocket ship and take some selfies already. jezzus .
If you missed out on old games it’s nothing to apologize for. Just the way life goes sometimes. We can’t access everything in our short lives.
Luckily, everyone seems to like Death Stranding 2
I’m replaying the first game it’s great. It’s not for everyone no doubt. There are still a lot of people playing it.
Then why do a sequel straight away?
Why not something else like maybe a horror game similar to Silent Hills but rebranded into a new IP.
You are absolutely right………..1 guy ( kojima really doesnt say anything bad about jaapn, he says more bad things about the west) inafune, is just like peter M. of the west whos ays all western games lack risk and originality…………globalization IS BAD………….differentiation in games IS GOOD………..
screw catherine, atlus japans best work is on portables, etrian oddessy, devil survivor, radiant historia, all brilliant games.
SALES DONT MATTER
Lets take sega.
The best games theyve doen this gen are the yakuza, phantasy star, valkyria chronicles games........all very japanese..........but thats what the US fans want also...........
Inafune, is a hypocrite. He isnt making a shooter.........Hes making a very japanese game ON A HANDHELD.
This pretty much sums up my thoughts about the situation as well. Great article, should be more than an opinion piece IMO.
But I wonder, are there actually westerners who think that Japan's push for globalization is a good thing? Are there people who really do want to see Japan be swallowed up by gritty shooters?
