i dont get why microsoft doesnt make a model that produces less heat or any problems for that matter, rather than just ripping of "other consoles" by adding HDMI and hi def audio and stuff like that...
Hey - all PC's run hot and that's by-product of the amount of work going on with tthe CPU's and the GPU's. It common with high powered devices, and all PC's and the PS3 will also produce heat (though not as much).
This will be helped by the smaller 360 chip set coming online soon, and they have also redesigned the heatsink.
Given the heat it does produce, they should have been a little more robust in the design of the componants, as the heat and the associated board warping are the prime cause of the RROD issues. Reports seem to suggest this is mainly fixed with the newer chipsets and board designs though - but there will always be excessive heat to eject unless you introduce a water powered cooling system like in some high end PC's! Obviously that would be too expensive.
Though I find the machine a little noisy, I don't mind the heat as it saves on my heating bill in the winter! :)
Wax melts at 113 degrees F (45 C).
That's only 15 degrees higher than human body temperature.
Is it really that shocking that a current-gen console would emit that amount of heat? It's not that much...
If it's not that hot, why don't you try holding onto the back of a 360 for an entire gaming session. You could get dotted burns. It'd look cool I guess.
I think I know what happened to the content of that xbox that got returned with just a phone book in it...might be a bit difficult to return it with it stuffed full of egg.
Wow I actually hadn't seen that before. I guess we know which console is the true Foreman grill. J/K I'm sure the same would happen with any PC or PS3 innards. Still funny though.
Pictured below...is what a melted candle looks like with a pool of wax.
What do we see in this article? A candle put behind an xbox 360 that didn't melt but got soft and being incapable of supporting its top heavy weight leaned to the side.
The ps3 puts out heat as well I am sure it could make a candle soft like the 360 did.
Go to a craft store, get plain craft wax, break off a peice, hold it in ur hand....it will go soft....put a peice in your mouth and chew it like gum it will go soft to the same consistancy of gum infact i do this some times ill get craft waxs melt it on the stove and mix in cherry flavoring then let it cool, wax is a safe biodegrable material and i used to chew it.
I dont see how this story has any credibility. It's common sense is it not?
If you put a candle behind something that outputs heat, it's going to melt- tis the nature of candles. If I were to put a candle behind my computer, I'm sure it would melt... heat is just a by-product of all the components "working" hard.
Though I admit, the 360 does get too hot sometimes.
This is news why? I put my hand on my DVD player... hot, on top of my LCD TV.... hot, Behind my PC... hot, next to my iron... very hot. This has really made N4G look like a crap. Who do you have approving your news? Idiots...!
ok, now lets take a car for example... no one gives a damn that the hood of your car is hot when you run the engine, now if your hood can grill sousages then it will be in the local news paper's front page-"Local man grills meat on his cars burning hood" :D
How can the 360 expel this much heat and still have enough left over to fry its insides? Sure all electronics produce heat but the 360 might actually spontaneously combust.
But seriously this is not a news story. Not even close.
Hey, that could used for good. I mean with Aromatic Candles most work as great a extra feature for the Xbox360, now u could receive a great aroma on the same time that u play Xbox360. Nah, now stop the joke lol ^__^
How old is that 360? If it's a pre-Falcon, then yes, it could conceivably generate that much heat. (My pre-Elite models were blast furnaces).
Second point: They have the console on its side. That causes the system to generate MORE heat (two blocked vents on the side, more surface contact that allows greater heat buildup).
This is news?
All high end electronics produce heat.
What kind of moron puts candles on or around their electrical equipment, except some one trying (and I mean"trying") to make some sort of stupid point. Ridiculous article.
And, by the way, I am a PS3 owner.
Amsterdaam- who claims the ps3 doesn't get hot? it's not the heat thats the problem it's RROD which is the GPU detach from the mainboard. it's manufactured like crap.
"Don't block the vents with anything larger than your 2" wiener (LOL)."

that was pretty funny- xbox must be stopped before all candles die, i urge you to smash your 360 before its too late for all soft products
