Gamesta.com has some of the coolest news ever. Indie game DoomRL mashes the classic fps universe with a roguelike dungeon crawler. This free title now even has real pixel graphics. It's a gaming revolution! Grab it now.
It appears as if things have turned out just fine for DoomRL, Jupiter Hell and Kornel Kisielewicz, because DoomRL has just become "DRL". So everything is cool now, no more trademark problems =) (DoomRL has also gone open source).
I wonder how long it will take before Drone Racing League gets on their case...
Today has been a very mixed day of emotions for me (Robin Ek, TGG), because I just found out that it seems like Zenimax Media wants to close down the "DoomRL" site. So this is my take on that matter.
In other words, the devs will have to change the DoomRL into something else?
That´s why it´s never a good idea to use a famous IP/trademark in your title name...
@Littil_Devil "For now, they might even pull the plug on that one as well."
Don´t give them any ideas now...
@Simon_the_sorcerer "Well, a lot of people have downloaded the game, and there´s quite a lot of live download links to be found as well. So, yeah."
The installer version has been downloaded almost 80K times:

@Simon_the_sorcerer "Isn´t there a risk that Zenimax could sue the devs for loss of incom or something?"
There is always a risk of such a thing, I got no such vibes while reading through their e-mail to Kornel Kisielewicz.
ZeniMax Media has slapped Jupiter Hell developer, Kornel Kisielewicz with an order to remove all references to Doom on ChaosForge websites.
That's crazy. No actions taken on the game, but freaking out about mention of it?
Just decapitalize the RL. It then becomes one word and Zenimax has zero rights to it.
