Trustedreviews: Every new console needs a flagship title, and there’s no question that Uncharted: The Golden Abyss is Playstation Vita’s. Standing in for Naughty Dog, Bend Studio has produced a game that captures the look and feel of one of the most advanced series on full-sized console hardware, and by that we don’t mean something with the compromises of the PSP versions of God of War, Resistance or Ratchet and Clank, but a game that retains pretty much the same experience.
Naughty Dog's outstanding Uncharted series has set the bar for narrative in video games, and we rank them in order of their fantastic quality.
COGconnected writes: With the release of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, we decided to rank Naughty Dog’s iconic series from the worst to the best.
Personally I'm going to go with
Uncharted 2
Uncharted
Uncharted 3
Uncharted 4
Golden Abyss
I know Drakes Fortune isn't an amazing game graphically today now since time has passed but I loved the story and I think it featured plenty of Sully and Elena equally.
I can barely remember GA so I don't include it in my list. I'd swap uc3 and 4. 2nd game was just such a fantastic game it's by the best in the series. While the first had a few issues it was still a fantastic adventure and had an amazing twist that I just didn't see coming which is why I have it at number 2. 4 is a good game but the story just didn't hold up as well. The story for 3 just wasn't all that great and felt like a copy of 2 at times with the *spoilers* separation from Elaina again and replacing the train disaster with a plane disaster.
Uncharted GA is memorable to me because of the exploration and puzzles. Bend Studios had the right idea of exploration for the series.
I wished ND did something like that for U4
My ranking of th uncharted series:
TLoU 2
Last of us
2
1
4
3
Abyss
Naughty Dog was on FIRE 🔥 during the PS3 era....not since Rockstar's EPIC PS2 run have we seen a studio put out so many AAA, award winning titles on one console in so little time....Uncharted, Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3 AND a little obscure game called The Slay Of Us LOL...wow, just wow 😳
Naughty Dog truly is a fantastic studio. It would be amazing to see Guerila Games and Sucker Punch reach their level someday.
Really Uncharted 4 as your second worst?
I thought that one was the best in the series with Uncharted 2 being my second favorite, Uncharted 3 third, Uncharted Lost Legacy fourth, and Golden Abyss dead last.
It doesn't mean I think the game was awful or bad...I just don't think the story/multiplayer was up to scratch like the previous ones.
Multiplayer had become even more gimmick like instead of skill drifting further away from what Uncharted 3 did like they didn't learn anything...and as for the story well you know by now my issues. You just don't add a long lost brother story arc in the last story you are doing in a franchise. Can you honestly imagine if Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings did that and it spent most of the plot explaining the new character rather then focusing on wrapping up the story and the characters it already had.
The chapters in Uncharted 4 with Sully and the ones on the Island at the end of the game with Elena are the most Uncharted like chapters the game has. They're brilliant, it's just a shame they didn't stick with them and add in Chloe for the rest of the game. Amy had the right idea if they were going to make Sam a villain.
Again...to confirm. I DO NOT think it's a shit game, I just think others were better.
On a technical level 4 was the best but in terms of pacing and story 2 just flipping rocks over them all.
@Ashunderfire86 Everyone and their mom knows that UC2 and 4 are the best in the series. IMO UC4 beats Among Thieves any day in every department except pacing in the story.
Foxtrot just has some personal problems with UC4 like the brother character and the big black strong lady with afro hair kicking his ass.
UC2 is definitely the best but I wasn't a fan of UC4. Too many conveniently placed crates whenever they needed to climb up, even Lost Legacy acknowledges it. Lost Legacy's end sequence is also a nod to UC2 as well.
I think for a game that came out when it did it still looks pretty damn good. What ND did with water physics was pretty damn impressive. Get in knee high water And only your jeans are wet at the knees and below. And he stays wet until it dries minutes later. Way back in 2007! And getting to know the characters was pretty damn cool.
My list....
Uc2
Uc4
Uc1
Uc3
Golden Abyss was trash so it's not even listed. I wouldn't consider any of what's listed "worst" but that game was awful.
I agree with your order.people don't give drakes fortune enough credit it was a great game. Howeveri didn't like 3
I am with you Foxtrot, I think Uncharted is grossly underrated when compared to the other titles in the series. For me, it absolutely nails the story and has one of my fave villains in Eddie Raja. While the others are more impressive on a technical and production level, I have always loved the story in the first game.
I adore every one of these games, there is barely anything to choose between them but my order probably goes:
Uncharted 2
Uncharted
Uncharted 4
Uncharted 3
I hate to put Uncharted 3 in last place because I also feel that game is relatively under appreciated too but I absolutely loved it. The story was fantastic with great villains, a fabulous sidekick in Cutter and some of the most impressive set pieces in the whole series, both the cruise liner and air crash are so well done.
I respect your ranking but mine is way different. 1. Def Uc 4 2. It's a tie between Uc 2 and lost legacy. 3. Uc 3 4.Uc 1 5.golden abyss. Uc 1 was the game that made me fall in love with Uc and ND but it's by far the weakest out of the nd developed uncharteds and I would never ever put it as high as the 2nd spot and def not above Uc 3 or 4 like you did. Uc 2 is when it really hit its stride and with the following Uc games it cemented the series as my favorite video game series ever
I think I almost agree with you except that I enjoyed Golden Abyss a lot more. I'd put it right after the original. My only complaint with the game was that Drake and Chase had zero chemistry. She was a really poor character.
IMO
Uncharted 2
Uncharted 4
Uncharted Lost Legacy
Uncharted 1
Uncharted golden abyss
Uncharted fight for fortune
And then Uncharted 3 lol
I freaking hate that game with a passion both story and multiplayer.
Uncharted 3 was trash, the visuals were amazing but the story, the main villain ,the god awful pacing ,the terrible spam brawl fest in the opening, that game was terrible.some of the launch mp maps like chateau and airstrip were good tho(I wish they'd bring em back)
Uncharted 3 gets more hate than it deserves. It was rushed and had pacing problems, but it was still a great game. I really enjoyed the setpieces and thought it had the best in the series until U4. In comparison to other Unchared games it may be top bottom, but in its own it is still a great game
My ranking would be:
U4
Lost Legacy
U2
Uncharted GA
U3
U1
3 wasn't trash at all, imo. It simply wasn't the best Uncharted. It was still great.
-Uncharted 1 (First in the series and was hard to judge. Story mode was good.)
-Uncharted 2 (Story mode epic. Co Op mode is fantastic. Multiplayer was balanced and pretty fast paced. Nothing cheap or OP.)
-Uncharted 3 (Story mode epic. Co Op was meh. Improved on everything from a multiplayer stand point minus the kick backs. Sprinting and grenade throwback is a plus.)
-Uncharted 4 (Story mode epic. Co Op was sloppy. Multiplayer is a buggy mess. Not to mention no regenerative health, no sprinting, no grenade throwback, recoil on the guns was unbalanced, etc.)
-Uncharted: Lost Legacy (Made the majority of the fixes that should of been added in UC4. Single player epic. Co Op is not a rushed mess like Uncharted 3 & 4. Multiplayer is a lot more polished and smoother then UC4 by a long shoot. Still don't like the reviving system, the lack of sprinting and lack of grenade throwback but I'll get over it.)
-Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Story mode is epic. It's not a full fledged Uncharted game but for what it is on the handheld it's a good experience.)
My rank:
1.) UC2
2.) UC: Lost Legacy
3.) UC3
4.) UC1
5.) UC4
6.) UC: Golden Abyss
What uncharted 3 did you play? Lol
Doesn't lost legacy and uncharted 4 share the same multiplayer?
ive just played through Nathan drake collection for the first time and thought 3 was better than 2. 3 has some amazing set pieces and I thought the pacing was better also improved AI and controls. I thought 2 started to drag and was really boring at times. number 1 was trash
I liked the sprinting in multiplayer. Sucks they don't have that option anymore.
Uncharted 4 has no regenerative health? What are you talking about? Yes it does. Wtf. If you stop getting shot at after a few seconds, your health goes back to full.
Also, the multiplayer in Lost Legacy is the same multiplayer for Uncharted 4. Lmao, don't tell me you're falling for a placebo effect. Smh
Nice to see the consensus that 2 is the best, they're all very good games but that one is special.
2 was amazing when it came out. A huge graphical leap over everything else at the time, great pacing, and mindblowing set pieces that have now become an industry standard in these types of games.
I absolutely love The Lost Legacy though. I think it is the best Uncharted since Uncharted 2.
I really didn't like the first one, so I've been waiting to play the rest of the collection....the first one turned me off the series tho
For me (best to least good, there's no thing as "worst")
- U3
- U2
- U1
- U4
I haven't played Golden Abyss. I hope it gets ported to PS4 someday, as I don't have a Vita.
EDIT: Oh, and I need to play Lost Legacy. :D
It is always cool to hate the new releases, then U5 comes and U4 suddenly becomes #2. the true Zelda effect
Or maybe he just didn't like it compared to 3
Newest doesn't mean better in general
I know...shocker
It's almost as if we were individual beings with their own opinions or something.
I love the Uncharted series as a whole. 3 just happens to be my favorite. Why does that bother you?
it wasn't tho.
The story was all over the place and even ND has stated that they created the story revolving the set pieces they had in mind which is noticeable since the story felt disjointed. The villains were terrible and a lot of the characters were handled poorly. To top it off that game had so many plot holes and was a carbon copy of the template they used for uncharted 2 which is evident how the second half of the game played out. Further more, when the game launched the aiming was horrible and was a step back from the smoothness and tight controls shown in Uncharted 2.

I agree though that the game isn't bad but it's officially weak compare to it's counterparts. The game just felt rushed.
I would like to see an article that ranks the Halo series since they always rank PS4 exclusives. The feel like I've seen this article in the past before
Everyone usually says 2 is the best, but imo 3 is the best. The graphics and set piece moments blew me away.I beat it on normal, then immediately beat it on Crushing, I liked it so much
agree, the plane crash is spectacular. what people don't seem to be mentioning is the improved AI, it's absolutely terrible in 1 and 2
I am really tempted to put TLL as my first right now (just reqched chapter 7, not gonna spoil anything other than awesome). But because i havent finished it yet 4 is currently my #1. Still need to think about which is better more though
I was the same as you and if it wasn't for 4 wrapping up Nathan story so well I would put lost legacy at 1 but as it stands it's tied with 2 has my second favorite Uc which is nothing to sneeze at.
well just finished it, TLL's final chapter was probably one of if not the best sequence in any uncharted, it was incredible.
If we're going worst to best...
1
GA
3
2
4
That said, none are bad. Haven't played LL yet.
I'd rate Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 4 the lowest for gameplay. They both had bullet sponging invincible side-steping enemies, that's just not acceptable especially with Uncharted 4 being such a late game. Uncharted 2 had the best balance but Uncharted 3 just had a perfect aiming system but spoiled a bit by slight input lag, 3D was amazing though.
Dude what enemies were bullet sponges in 4 besides the big armored Gatling gun dudes. Uc 4 gameplay is by far the best in the series and it's not even close
uncharted 2 is a masterpiece. The rest is debatable, but U2 is not. I would put uncharted 4 last but I haven't played the spinoffs or mobiles. Chances are I would put them above u4.
I played them all for the first time with the Uncharted Collection so my views may be a bit more biased against the older games. Haven't played Golden Abyss.
1. Uncharted 4
2. Uncharted 2
3. Uncharted 3
4. Uncharted 1
Yeah you can't go wrong in any of them.
I had so much fun playing all of them. The end of Lost Legacy with the little anime people was awesome too.
Why are you getting so flustered over another mans opinions on the internet?
Of course the introduction to Drake then 2,4 & 3. Though I have Golden Abyss haven't played it yet & I just started The Lost Legacy on chapter 3 which is good so far.
No comment on Golden Aybess and Lost Legacy.
But 2>1>3>>>>> ; 4
I'm sorry but how can a "Video Game" title have the majority of your time spending on climbing/walking be your top UC(or game period)
Gameplay>>>>>& amp; amp; amp; amp; gt;>>Story
IMO
Uncharted 1
Uncharted Golden
Uncharted 4
Uncharted 2
Uncharted Lost Legacy
Uncharted 3
Didn't play 3 through. Didn't like the flash back as a kid.
Recently played uncharted 1 and 2 on the ps4. Controls were outdated it felt, weren't smooth (guessing it was a straight up render port).
Found 2 to be better than 1, but both rather forgettable. Skipped 3 and went straight into 4.
Story was average, dialogue was funny.
4 reminded me off tomb raider reboot in a way. Shit always goes wrong.
And thebpsV version was an impressive handheld title.
So in short
4 > ps vita > 2 then 1.
Me personally ...
Uncharted 2
Uncharted
Uncharted 3
Uncharted 4
Golden abyss last
For me it has to be:
Uncharted 2
Uncharted 4
Uncharted: GA
Uncharted 3
Uncharted
While I think 3 and the original game are the "weakest" in the series, they're still amazing games. I love them both, I just think they were both a bit rough, and 3 had some issues with the pacing. Still great experiences though.
Well I haven't played LL yet so I can't comment on that but currently, mine is:
Uncharted 2
Uncharted 4
Uncharted 1
Uncharted 3
and Golden Abyss doesn't count as it's not by ND and it's nowhere near the quality of the console games but it did have some neat things in it to gain an honorable mention.
There is no bad Uncharted to begin with. Just one may be a tad better than the other.
Uncharted 4 - The pinnacle of storytelling and gameplay in the series, with perfect pacing
Uncharted 2 - took the series to new heights by amplifying the quality of every part of the original; multiplayer was also amazing and simple
Uncharted 3 - very close to the 2nd game in terms of quality, and I'd argue it can fairly be switched with U2 for 2nd
Uncharted - quite an amazing title as a new IP on new hardware; really one of the original titles to showcase what the ps3 was ushering in; U3 showed us what the ps3 was ultimately capable of
Golden Abyss - an interesting experience, memorable more for its puzzles; made me nostalgic over the first title
Haven't played Lost Legacy yet, so I can't comment on that.
Uncharted 2 will always be at the top, but I can honestly say 4 comes a close second. I had a gripe with the story, but overall it's still an excellent game. 3 was great too, but the ending felt rushed, which was something that kindof ruined it for me.
Fact is, even if you include GA (which I think will always be ranked worst), there's no such thing as a bad Uncharted game. They all range from good to excellent. GA was an excellent portable game, and was mainly held back by the hardware it was on. Overall, still good.
I'm probably one of those rare birds that preferred the new installment over the previous. Even golden abyss.
Going through lost legacy now though.
It is funny because its like picking the best MGS game for me when it comes to picking the best Uncharted.
U1 is like MGS1 because it introduced me to Uncharted. First time I played it was like wow. The graphics, the set pieces where just insane. I remember the first time I was on the boat and I was thinking is this actual gameplay?. The first time in the jungle and I got wet and I explored around. Amazing. The first time climbing the cliffs and come in contact with the German Uboat in the jungle. Still hard to beat.
Then U4 is like MGS4. Just the best send off for the characters and It was really an intimate story that brought everything together.
U2 while it really got everyone's attention. I would say U4 and U1 tops for me.
Here's a few things that annoy me about gamers when it comes to the UC series. Ppl love to dog on a game that got a 92 meta? Most ppl I know that have played the game all agree that UC3 is a great game, maybe not as good as 2, but still a very good game. Critics think so and likely the average person would as well, but gamers tend to agree with the popular opinion which is that UC3 is trash lol. It's funny really, it's like no one wants to be the guy that admits the game is good actually. Another annoying misconception is that UC4 has pacing issues...since when the hell did gamers become so sophisticated to care about pacing in a video game. UC4 gets criticized for pacing while we're currently living through an open world RPG era where nearly all of them have pacing issues simply due to their design...ok.
They're all great games but I think Golden Abyss gets a lot more crap than it deserves, UC4 gets a lot more praise than it deserves, and UC3 is a great game that has a story that loses focus a lot.
I'm not sure how I would rank them but if I had to I'd say:
Uncharted 2
Uncharted
Uncharted Golden Abyss
Uncharted 3
Uncharted 4
I dont really need to rank them I think they were all great games and I enjoyed then for what they brought to the world of gaming.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception,
Uncharted Golden Abyss,
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune,
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End,
Uncharted The Lost Legacy,
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
I'm gonna go with:
Uncharted 2
Uncharted 4
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Uncharted
Uncharted 3
4 just barely edges out TLL, but TLL is a much shorter game and it's characters haven't had as much time to develop as Nathan Drake. I thought 2 was amazing. So much, it would have been (and was) hard for 3 to follow.
Very good series. I kinda just view them all as the one game, which became so popular by its characters and writing. Sully's "don't point that gun at me again, kid" was one of my favourite moments in any SP game.
The essence of Uncharted always was fun and amazing action, with pretty interesting story coupled amazing Story Telling.
Based on that criteria:
1. Uncharted 3 (Hands down the most awesome and fun set-pieces. Awesome globetrotting)
2. Uncharted 2 (Debatably better than 3 due to tigher story and chloe, but can't quite keep up with 3's set-pieces.)
3. Uncharted 4 (Overall an amazing game, but more serious than fun, set-pieces were more focused but less epic)
4. Uncharted 1 (Was the fun charming number one entry that started it all, will always have a warm spot in my heart :)
5. Golden Abyss (AMAZING what they've done on PSV for its time. Great game, but at the end wasn't "as big" as others)
?. Lost Legacy (Haven't played it yet, but I could see it fit right above Uncharted 1 and below Uncharted 4 on my list :)
I liked Uncharted 4 I would rank probably 2, 3, 4, 1, never played Golden Abyss...so I can't rank that one. I liked the multiplayer in Uncharted 4 better than any of the other multis... I know I am going to get a lot of disagrees on that last part. I hated the bullet sponge characters of Uncharted multis in the past...
For me it goes
best to worst -
Uncharted 4
Uncharted The Lost Legacy
Uncharted 3
Uncharted 2
Uncharted
Uncharted Golden Abyss
The Uncharted series has a number of reoccurring conventions, and they all helped form the series’ identity.
