Pixel Scribes: "Back in 2005, indie developers Illfonic created a popular free-to-play Quake 3 mod. Seven years later, this mod, now known as Nexuiz, has crossed platform and hit the Xbox Live Arcade. Now running the CryEngine 3, Nexuiz is a fast-paced, and quite frankly, crazy online arena FPS with a clear emphasis towards old-school shooter fans. There has been somewhat of a hiatus for these types of shooters, with neither Unreal Tournament nor Quake making an impact on the market in recent years. As more gamers are drawn towards the modern day style shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield, it would seem there is somewhat of a gap in the market for a classic arena shooter."
Nexuiz launched as a PC and console game 10 years ago, but the downfall of THQ lead to problems for the inspirational title.
Remember Nexuiz, the arena first-person shooter pulled from Steam three years ago after publisher THQ went bust? It's back.
Developer IllFonic has self-published the game on Steam, where it costs £7.99 (it's £3.99 until 22nd March).
Didn't get around to playing it until after the community died. Great to see it back.
The aftershock of THQ's dissolution continues, as servers for the Xbox 360 version of Nexuiz have been shut down. Developer Illfonic announced the news on its Facebook page, noting that the servers were being run by THQ and "cannot be maintained anymore." The PC servers, however, will remain online courtesy of Illfonic itself.
That's a shame, I loved this game but guess I won't be able to complete the achievements now.
