VGW Review: Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen

VGW: The Shinobido series is a strange beast. After Aquire gained fame for Tenchu and the rights were bought by rival developer From Software, the company sought to keep its fans of ninja stealth action by developing a separate series centered on the same gameplay mechanics and principles. As a result, Shinobido: Way of the Ninja was born, but both the original for the PS2 and the PSP sequel never made it to North American shores. Now, with the launch of the Playstation Vita, North American ninja fans finally have the chance to play a Shinobido title with Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen. But was the wait worth it?

Huh, from the demo it seems really fun... A little rough around the edges, but it really satisfied my Tenchu lusting lol (as it should based on the developers).

Let the demo sate your appetite. You'll be bored with the entire game. (and I say that as a big fan of Acquire)

Ouch, that's too bad... I always loved the original Tenchu games and have been a fan of Way of the Samurai despite its general low scorings. I guess I could always pick it up when it's cheaper later on down the road.

10 PlayStation Vita Gems That Flew Under the Radar

VGCartz's Adam Cartwright: "Throughout the life of any console, certain games come to prominence and are recommended to new owners without reservation. For Vita, these are things like DanganRonpa, Digimon, Killzone, Persona and Tearaway – titles that are recognised for their outstanding quality and universal appeal that I’d say the majority of dedicated Vita gamers will have tried at one time or another.

For every console, there are also a tonne of games that fly under the radar and are only noticed by a tiny subset of fans. Everyone with a Wii knew about Mario Kart and Super Mario Galaxy, for example, but few knew of Battalion Wars 2 or Fragile Dreams. These ‘hidden gems’ can often provide some of the most diverse and exciting experiences in a console’s library, it just might take a little digging to find out about them.

Vita is no exception and this article will be a selection of 10 hidden gems that I’ve come across on Sony’s handheld."

I read through the entire list and the game that I think I would like the most is Wanted Corp. Twin stick shooters are always fun on the go. I have to admit, that this game never hit my radar, so this article is great to bring games like this to our attention. I still play my Vita. Playing Final Fantasy X remaster and using the cross save feature with the ps4. Great system even to this day.

A Look at All of the Stealth Games Available on Vita

VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "The stealth genre is one that some would argue doesn’t even exist – many titles include stealth elements, but actually fit into one of a number of other genres like action, platformer, or third-person shooter. Ever since the breakout success of the Metal Gear franchise (in particular Metal Gear Solid), though, the genre seems on much more stable footing and it demonstrated that you can have a veritable blockbuster on your hands relying only on stealth mechanics as the main gameplay element.

In recent years we’ve seen other things like Assassin’s Creed, Hitman and Splinter Cell continue to push the genre forward, although it still has somewhat limited appeal. Thankfully, the Vita has a healthy selection of stealth games available (and even more with backwards-compatibility), meaning if you’re looking to do some sneaking on the go then you’ll be well served with the console."

A Look Back at Acquire's Games for PlayStation Vita

VGChartz's Adam Cartwright: "Just like Artdink, Acquire is a quirky Japanese developer with a history of experimentation and big ideas, but has unfortunately been at the mercy of low budgets throughout the years, leaving gamers with some fantastic titles that suffer from a large amount of jank. Acquire worked on Vita from its launch in Japan through to early 2017, injecting a nice level of variety to the console’s library despite some of the technical shortcomings of its titles, making the company a prime candidate for examination here."
