Wiiloveit.com: Analyzing Mario Party

"Despite efforts by some to cut it down to size, Mario Party is still one of my most cherished franchises. That said, even I'm surprised at how far Nintendo has been able to take this without it becoming too formulaic or cookie-cutter. While you could probably get away with accusing some of the individual mini-games and boards of following that pattern, the core concept never gets old. As a sort of tribute to all that Hudson Soft did to develop it into the go-to series for party gaming, I felt really motivated to compile a detailed retrospective look at just how far Mario Party has come over the years. As of today, fans who still believe in the series are helping to usher in Mario Party 9's new system. Certainly, then, now is an appropriate time as ever to look back on all that's been done in the name of this popular series." -- Wiiloveit.com

Fantastic analysis. It's been a long time since I've played Mario Party, but I remember fearing the same thing. I've always wondered how long Nintendo could produce games of the franchise without effectively remaking what's been made in the past.
