EDGE- Asura's Wrath Review

EDGE- After years of interactive movies – Modern Warfare, Uncharted and Gears Of War – it makes sense that Capcom should finish what it started. And Asura’s Wrath is the pinnacle of pseudo-interactivity, an action game so spectacular that it’s barely a game at all.

edge is harsh on everything

LOGICWINS4804d ago

Thats why so many people(even people who don't like Edge) pay attention. When a game does get an 8, 9, or 10 then its deemed to be an automatic must buy.

Not necessary the case. If I cant trust their low balls then how in the heck can I appreciate their highs?
The premise of Edge's 'dismissal' centered around the QTEs and anime styled presentation.

However, I wonder how much they would have discounted the game play mechanics if they had to play their review copy with the mortal gauge equipped (its game play setting within Asura's Wrath)?

The combat is more nuanced than they give it credit and more fun and addicting than they would want to admit.

By the way Asura's Wrath should rest nicely between a 7.5 and an 8 from a rating perspective.

I absolutely loved the games combat system, story and art direction-
Just got the platinum trophy today.

Forgive the typos

they do overate games.

and anyway their taste doesn't fit my own most of the time

callahan094804d ago

Except iPhone games. They give out 8's and 9's like they're going out of style to iPhone games. What's up with that?

LOGICWINS4804d ago

"Except iPhone games. They give out 8's and 9's like they're going out of style to iPhone games. What's up with that?"

Because iphone games range from $0 to $5...a fraction of the price of a $60 PS3/360 game. Hence, there's a greater expectation from a PS3/360 game than an iphone game...as a result the reviewing standards are different.

dc14804d ago

So value goes into the rating system now... I didn't hear/read that disposition in their review. :)
No worries Logic, I just think that the overall review world is broken... and I have a hard time reconciling what I believe to be shallow reviews and the time, money and effort that developers and organizations poured into their product.

tantobanto4804d ago

they also give high scores for ds,psp,3ds vita games

Der_Kommandant4804d ago

As an Interactive Anime this game succeeds on all levels

Hicken4804d ago

It's a little short for my liking, but I love it, nonetheless. Between the story and epic feel of even the minor boss battles, I thought it was absolutely amazing.

If it had been a few hours longer, I might have given it a 9. As it stands, it's a solid 8.5.

specialguest4804d ago

True score is a 7 which seems about right based on countless different website scores. Edge scores everything -2 points by default.

Either 90% of gaming sites are too generous, or Edge purposely socres everything less as a proven strategy to stand out from every other site, and draw attention.

Spenok4803d ago

Ill bet it's the latter. :/

madcow604804d ago

If they hate consoles that bad, they should stop reviewing games, and review food and drinks instead.

When I see all those scores, its like their message is: fuck Xbox and ps3, go buy a computer

Come on... Ssx got 8 and 9 almost everywhere. Edge scored it 5/10

I think n4g should stop accepting news from edge, and instead, bring back hiphopgamer. I've heard he spent a lot of time on Antarctic, and his color skin now is much less black.

Great game... wouldn't mind a remaster

Abnor_Mal190d ago

Loved Rain, funnily I was just thinking of it this week.

jznrpg190d ago

Definitely a good game and loved the art style. My daughter watched me play it when she was 4 years old. I’ll have to replay it with her someday now that she’s older. It’s crazy it’s been around 11 years.

Abnor_Mal190d ago

I was thinking of pulling out my PS3 super slim this winter to replay Rain, and try to tackle some of the backlog I acquired.

Knightofelemia189d ago

I love Enslaved such a sleeper hit, Asuras Wrath a very good game I still own, and I wish EA would put out a new Dante's Inferno another game I enjoyed. I never heard of the Rain game I might have to try it out might give Ebay a snoop or two.

gold_drake189d ago

Knightofelemia189d ago

I think you are talking about Heavenly Blade

gold_drake189d ago
