Capcom, I'm Breaking Up With You

Fighting games having characters as DLC is a normal thing. Now sometimes DLC came already on the disc, and when you purchase the DLC, the content is simply unlocked. Even major titles like Mass Effect and Gears of War are guilty of having DLC on the disc. It sucks, plain and simple. Forcing people to pay for items on a disc that they already had to shell out $60 dollars for is wrong. Sadly it has become a standard for games now, and it probably won’t change. Capcom has recently confirmed something that does not sit well with me at all. All of the DLC characters for Tekken X Street Fighter are not already done being developed, but are actually on the disc. Gamers will just have to pay to unlock the content for the game that they just purchased.

There isn't a single mention of the 3ds in this article despite the tag, which I find funny, as Capcom's treatment of the 3ds is much better than the other consoles. (Here lately, anyway.... ^_^;)

Which is why I said "here lately". That and MML3's "cancellation" were both pretty bad, but isolated. But since, they are doing better with 3ds, and I can only hope that they don't u-turn... ^_^;

RE the Mercs... people are STILL talking about that? Super Monkey Ball came out before RE the Mercs with the same thing and no one cared then, now, or most likely in the future. Many games besides RE the Mercs had this feature, but only RE the Mercs was protested. This is what makes these arguments simple hater bullshit.

You want to hate Capcom? Sure there's plenty of valid reasons.
You want to change the industry? Expect the same standards from other companies and not just point the finger at a single company and write off the rest.

The only capcom game I'm done with is SF games, plus that scandal with there DLC distribution is absolutely ridiculous, I feel bad for ppl who bought MVC and SF content, it was already in your game. But I'm afraid the fans don't know nor care to what Capcom has done. It starts here on the net, But Im afraid this kind of thing only stays on the net. I buy DLC for anything I find value in. Costumes in sf4 freshened up the experience after playing thousands of matches online. That was my choice and just like me no one is forcing any of you to buy anything.

Capcom never dangled the 12 DLC characters in your face and then took them away, so frankly Capcom doesn't owe you shit. If the DLC characters never existed no one would say the game was unfinished (proven by all the positive review scores). Remember that the only reason we have footage is because of people illegally obtaining it.

Capcom already explained logically why the DLC is on the disk but you all choose to ignore it. None of you were ever street fighter fans anyway, just a bunch of whiny entitlement bandwagoners.

Now this raises the question what if ( and I know they will ) had Day 1 DLC for The new Resident Evil game that gets released this fall, will you give into temptation? Or say no?

probably the most anticipated game being released this quarter (ME3) has DLC on day-one! What's the difference between on-disc DLC and day-one DLC??

in capcom's defense, they actually have a legitimate reason for having DLC on-disc. The reason being: When DLC is released for SFxT, if a person who opted out of purchasing dlc gets squared up against an opponent using a dlc char, they will be able to load the char.. how else can they play against that char?

I am an old school gamer, and I've had mixed feelings about the new business model this gen. But you know what, it's here and it's probably not going to change. Because of this, I rarely purchase DLC as a personal way of protesting.

Anyway, I'm just trying to point out the hypocrisy of some people that are posting negatively towards capcom. Especially since those same players will be purchasing ME3 DLC day-one and will not even think twice about the issue.

There have been games in the past that release a patch to allow compatibility with DLC or preorder character bonuses. I remember Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 had the Juggernaut DLC compatibility patch.

From wiki: "Juggernaut was available as a pre-order bonus incentive for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. A patch was released to allow those who do not have Juggernaut installed to play with others who have the character."

So yes, you can patch it in to allow people that don't have the DLC to play with those that do. The above was just one example. So its not really a legitimate reason for it being on the disc. Also, with ME3, people are still pissed that the DLC was released weeks before the game hit retail when it could have been on the disc in the first place and not DLC.

Capcom has said that the DLC is on the disc for compatiablity,AND so they don't have to make an Ultimate or super version. So instead of doing that, they are just charging you now.That's not right

The first mistake of this is in the very first sentence. "Fighting games having characters as DLC is a normal thing." That's a lie. Fighting games used to be about completing challenges to unlock things. Not just outright paying for them. The rest of this I agree with though.

I miss the 90's Capcom

Back in 1991 when Street Fighter 2 first came out, and all the versions after it; I could imagine them charging $5 per boss character, $10 per new character from the Super series, and $15 for the "Super Meter" added in SSF2T

Rival Schools would have been DLC-heaven with all 42 characters on the Evolution Disc

Strider from MvC would have been DLC along with Onslaught, and the rest of the hidden fighters

Mega Man would have been shortened down to 6 bosses and $10 per boss character for the "extra" bonus

Capcom is about to be my second company I boycott entirely; and they're 90% of the reason why I even got into fighting games.
