Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D For Nintendo 3DS Review

We aren’t the biggest fan of the Nintendo’s 3D handheld over here, So if you happen to sense any animosity in this review, it will be aimed at the system itself and not so much MGS.. First off I would like to say I love how they managed to bring the map and all of the shortcut’s into the touch screen area so the player has a clean image free of icons on the top playing screen.

The resolution on the 3DS is really low, so if you aren’t a fan of the 3D then this really isn’t a game for you. I wouldn’t play this game with out the 3D, I would almost consider it to be a necessity as it will help you distinguish the objects you are looking at, as some of the enemies can appear blurred at a distance. If you do not currently own a 3DS and may be looking to purchase one soon, I might suggest waiting until Nintendo releases one of their standard “XL” upgrades with the larger screens.

The HD collection of MGS may be heading to PS Vita, and if it does, I would almost most certainly say to purchase this game on the VITA instead. Bigger screen, better graphics, better controls. Not only will you be receiving 5 games instead of just 1, for the same price.

For those of you who have never played the Metal Gear Solid series, this would be a perfect starting point for you as it is a prequel. I was able to get a good feel for the controls, and I like the added mechanics of moving while crouching and additional camera control. But this Gem of a game really requires a higher quality platform as the frame rates can be troubling and make the game appear as if it’s in slow motion.

Also the 3DS’s Circle Pad Pro should be a requirement. Don’t play this game with out it.

All in all, the game has great game play, great graphics (but hard to focus sometimes because of small screen), great sound. But in the end we would still recommend this game on the PS3, or even holding off for the PS Vita version.
