Analyzing the Modern Warfare Trilogy: Part 2 – It’s full of plot holes!

In this part 2 of an analysis of the Modern Warfare trilogy, I take a look at the countless plot holes that litter the series. If only the writers had given more thought to making the plot more logical, things might have risen from mediocrity.

I do agree with the part the writer says that MW1 had set up a decent story and wasn't over the top. But they just seemed to have dropped that more realistic type of story and just turned it into some massive over the top action film.

Personally, I think that's the main deteriment to MW1's story. Some writer at Infinity Ward actually tried to convince everyone MW1's story was actually above-average or good; when in reality, it was conceptually the first of it's kind for a videogame so the "purety" actually paints a different picture then what it really was: the same over-the-top nonsense grounded by borrowing ideas from Tom Clancy.

Modern warfare full of plotholes!?

Who would have guessed. Every damn game post CoD4 dropped any pretense of a 'story' at all. The entire game is nothing more than a series of set pieces which were strung together by a piss poor story. The CoD1/2/4 all focussed on the plight of the soldier. The 'call of duty' and what that means in different contexts. CoD4 touched rather beautifully on the idea of what it means to be a soldier in a world where nukes and city razing bombs exist. It was a great idea and was very emotional.

But after that it literally became a bunch of explosions. Not only did mw2 ignore the idea of what it means to be a soldier it just starts pulling shit out of its ass. Oh look captain price is alive. Oh look detonating a nuke in space has NO disadvantages whatsoever. Oh look Russia has instigated a land based invasion of the U.S. Oh look there's an oil rig, and a castle, and an airport... and a street in Brazil. And now I'm fighting in the white house.

And it's something to do with a guy called Makarov right? Oh no wait it's a U.S General instigating all of this. Because that's how soldiers work right? When the government trains some of the greatest soldiers to ever live a General would find himself in the situation where he'd have to kill those soldiers to avoid them turning on him. Let alone the fact it wouldn't be up to the damn soldiers to even know why and who they were killing but whatever we'll just pretend that the army is actually comparable to a lovely dovely family where you just pick and choose what you orders you do and don't follow.

My favorite is the former SAS fellow crawling into a Russian nuclear submarine and finding the big red button labeled, "Fire Nuke At America."

Which was also conveniently next to a smaller red button labeled, "Detonate the Nuke We Just Fired in Orbit."

While i appreciate the gesture.... all of these retro classics have been made available everywhere else. I am hoping to see some other Activision properties make their way out of the shackles of the 5th, 6th and 7th gen. Licensing be damned... bring back the Transformers Cybertron games.

P_Bomb38d ago

Love the Cybertron games! TF games have been shit lately. Would love to see that era revisited. I even did the multiplayer!

MrBaskerville38d ago

Is the retro classics for all consoles?

Obscure_Observer38d ago

It’s a HELL of a game. If you like JRPGs in the family of Persona, you will be in heaven… that is until you hear the various battle music…. then you’ll be somewhere BEYOND heaven!

Only a big company that has interest in gaming like Microsoft or Tencent could have acquired Activision. Extremely low interest rates at that time certainly helped.

Not exactly sure that a merger with EA would’ve benefited any of their franchises or gamers. I imagine it would’ve been like the activision blizzard one were each publisher retains their own identity. So Activison-Blizzard-EA. But who knows.

If it was owned by EA, COD could’ve disappeared a looong time ago. They have no clue how to manage franchises.

Gamingsince1981122d ago

It's a shame EA didn't buy them then, COD should die, it's past its prime and has been since black ops 2, I started playing it when cod 4 mw first came out and it has been downhill since.
