Diehard GameFAN: Stonekeep: Bones of the Ancestors Review

DHGF: Stonekeep: Bones of the Ancestors is a remake/sequel of Interplay’s 1996 first-person PC based dungeon crawler for the Nintendo Wii. Available on Wii Shop for 500 points, the potential to wax nostalgic was too much for me to resist at least trying. The original incarnation had live action cinematic sequences with a variety of voice actors, a rune based magic system allowing for some creativity, and a somewhat tinny but engaging soundtrack. Coupled with a story that gradually guided you through the available levels and allowed you to meet character NPCs (with names!), and you had the makings of a mid-ninety’s classic.

PixlBit's Stonekeep: Bones of the Ancestors Review

"Going into Stonekeep, I was fully aware it was a budget priced WiiWare release, but still, I was excited. It’s not very often you see a company willing to revive an extremely old and niche series, much less one that’s a first person RPG dungeon crawler. While a big deal back on the PC two decades ago, these days you just don’t see many of these types of RPGs. But alas, Stonekeep quickly and effectively dashed my excitement after just a few short minutes."

NintendoLife: Stonekeep: Bones of the Ancestors Review

NintendoLife: Stonekeep: Bones of the Ancestors, a remake of Interplay's mid-90's first-person dungeon crawler, sounds pretty good on paper. The Wii is a bit short on quality RPGs — especially on WiiWare — and Stonekeep was a decent-looking, competent RPG back in its day. But pre-rendered 2D environments and FMV characters are no longer the norm, and the resulting polygonal translation isn't much better on the eyes.
