Jen Alaggia writes: The Microsoft Kinect really is an awesome piece of tech. People have been modifying its uses for many cool things, from butler-trons to full body scanners and even integrating its use into games that weren't built for it. The one area where the device seems to fall short, however, is support from actual game developers.
AMD CEO Lisa Su talks about the Xbox AMD partnership, next-gen Ryzen + Radeon chips, and AI rendering tech coming to all Xbox devices.
AMD is really building hype around their unique partnership with Microsoft to help and build an advanced and seamless Xbox ecosystem across all Xbox consoles and devices.
I wonder what she meant by "full roadmap of gaming optimized chips" though? Seems ambitious.
Next year´s Xbox Showcase already looks promising and exciting. Here´s hoping they deliver.
Some odd, deliberate wording, no branding, not 'Xbox consoles, Xbox handhelds' specifically, feels and sounds like they're building towards hardware that anyone can be used or licensed to/by themselves and other manufacturers.
Multiplatform software and hardware 'Xbox/AMD APU'.
Shares vision....we provide chips for money, this deal will sell many chips, we will make lots of money...good vision
The marketing behind this is so heavy that I worry about the actual outcome. Why are they just not showing us the product, why all this talking in market speak?
With the launch of Call of Duty Season 4, Activision quietly put adverts inside loadouts for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, sparking a backlash in the process.
Putting Ads in a pay-to-play Premium title? Well done Microsoft. Well done /s This is really scummy.
Xbox's handheld ambitions continue unabated, but the focus is shifting towards improving Windows 11 for third-party handhelds — for now. The Xbox Series X 'Melrose' successor is safe, with development continuing at full pace.
Funny to see the alt already damage controlling and having a meltdown with multiple accounts in the comments already.
Sad for MS if true, a dedicated handheld would go down a lot better than a rog ally 2 with an Xbox sticker on it I think.

Edit: Above is in response to the author's thinking that Kinect isn't creating games that utilize Kinect's power. Somehow it has to be games she wants, not games that fit the technology.
Forza Motorsport 4 utilises Kinect. Ghost Recon and Mass Effect 3 will utilise Kinect, as would many other non-dancing/sporting games.
Right now, these games sell and they sell mildly well. Why would you not milk it while you can?
Also, take a look at the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games. Milked to its death, yet they sold millions upon millions of copies. One of Activision's most successful games.
Personally I love my Kinect. I don't use it continuosly or every time I game. In fact I am happy not using it...BUT..I love having one console that allows me to play hardcore games like BF3, Forza 4 and Gears of War 3..download great arcade titles like Orcs Must Die, Bastion and Shadow Complex and then turn around and have some crazy "active" fun like Fruit Ninja or Kinect Sports 1 or 2. I can't tell you how many times I fire up my 360... then walk to the kitchen to grab a snack and shout back to my 360 to load profile and play disc in order to start up my gaming session all the while making something to eat.
As for the article and its "lack of support" ...clearly Kinect is and has gotten support. "Beyond Dancing and Sports" games .... while there certainly are more dancing and sports games there most certainly are other genre that make use of it... Gunstringer, Halo Anniv., Haunt, Rise of Nightmares, Forza 4 and Child of Eden are all games that show its not all dancing and sports.
Like many here I fully expect to see Kinect really show its muscle with the next console given the limitations that came with being a late in life cycle console accessory.
I want to know when I can use kinect when sitting on the couch. (ie Mass Effect 3's features)
I still haven't bought one. I find no reason to buy one at the moment. maybe when it's like fifty bucks.
