CVG - You'll often hear Return Of Samus mentioned as the Metroid that's ripest for a remake.
Fans are lucky enough to have two high quality remakes of Metroid 2: the fan-+made AM2R (which has technically been taken down but is still widely available online), and the recently released Metroid: Samus Returns by Nintendo and MercurySteam on the 3DS. When AM2R released last year, it was heralded as one of the best 2D Metroid games ever designed. Meanwhile, Samus Returns is being described as a triumphant new entry in the long dormant series. But which one is better?
Actually, that's not a fair question. Most Metroid fans didn't get a chance to check it out. I know quite a few who don't even have a PC (they have mac's or tablets) to have experienced the game.
After playing am2r,I would say Nintendo's remake would have to be very good to surpass it as doc did such a bang up job. Need to get a hold of a 3DS to see though.
Played both. They are both great games. I would give the edge to SR on 3DS. It's not a straight-up remake. It's a remix with new mechanics and features. Both are worth playing.
Metroid Released on the NES 30 years ago today, 15th of August, and with the E3 announcement that Metroid II would be remade as Metroid Samus Returns for the Nintendo 3DS we turned our attention towards Milton Guasti, the developer who spent about 10 years working on AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake). Shortly after releasing the remade game in 2016, he received a takedown request under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) from Nintendo. We wondered how he felt about this and what he’s been doing since.
Definitely a good sport. His game did look really good though. I'm going to have to pick up "Metroid Samus Returns".
They did allow him to let it out into the wild. Given publicity little to no chance of anyone else re-releasing it and trying to clam it as theirs.
The Metroid 2 remake from Nintendo is looking great. But there was another Metroid 2 remake before this one. And they shut it down.
No they were working on it. They weren't scared.
Just like the shutdown Pokemon Prism when Sun and Moon was coming.
These ungraceful fans using their IP when they have games in development for those series or games coming soon.
AM2R I have it, plus it's so easy to get if you want it. The power of the torrent XD To bad no talented programmer can take the game fix any bugs then re uploaded it to a torrent site. They can call it AM2R_fixed :D AM2R is not going to even make a dent in Nintendo losing any sales even if they did not send a take down. I for one am def. buying the new Metroid on 3DS.
