CheatCC says - "Fans of the series may at first have trouble making the connection between the game 2K Marin is showing and the original series. X-COM, initially dubbed UFO: Enemy Unknown, was known as one of the best strategy game series on the market (save for the fourth and final entry nearly ten years ago.) It's worth noting that the last game, X-COM: Enforcer, abandoned its beloved strategy formula for a third-person shooter-style gameplay and proceeded to fail. Fans, then, are understandably nervous as this new entry in the series looks to break with tradition again by moving the action to the first-person perspective."
With E3 starting next week, 2K Games revealed the biggest E3 line up they have for the year

COG: A group of industry veterans from the XCOM franchise have teamed up to launch the new turned-based tactics studio Bit Reactor.
From the *new* Xcom franchise. The original was developed by Julian Gollop and Mythos games. He is currently in charge of Snapshot games and his latest take on Xcom was Phoenix Point.
I'm all for more tactics games. played Phoenix Point on Game Pass (ended up purchasing it), it's good...but doesn't have that same XCOM 2 feeling. Would love to see what these guys have to offer
Due to Firaxis’ overall success with the reimagined XCOM series, the XCOM name has become a catchall term for tactical role-playing games in general, which is unfair to the entirety of that subset of games.
The original 1994 Xcom is the one all others are compared to not the fireaxis version. It's also still the best.
Fail game is fail.
If I want to play squad mechanic-shooter I'll play Gears of War.
If I want to run-and-gun against aliens and/or zombies I'll play Call of Duty, Borderlands, BioShock, Resistance, KillZone, Left 4 Dead or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
If I want a period piece game I'll play Brothers in Arms, Men at War, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Mafia II or The Godfather.
If I want to play a strategy game with fully destructible environments, RPG leveling for my soldiers, micromanagement, macromanagement, base customization, character customization, a plethora of weapons, a huge cache of researchable items, quick-thinking strategic air combat moments, the option to do or pass on a mission, a huge variety of unique and random locations scattered across the entire world, and a budget-concious government commitee to keep me in check then I'll play X-Com, not XCOM.
