As this year’s bumper crop of indie films hits theater to vie for dominance in the awards’ race, Take Shelter (along with Tree of Life, the hyper-abstract meditation on the meaning of existence, and The Beginners, a delightfully heartfelt film overflowing with quirk) have announced themselves as front-runners after a strong showing in this year’s “Spirit” nominations.
