A lot of hyped up games, and a lot of failures. Here are the most notable games of 2011 which failed to deliver.
Interesting. I'd heard good things about Driver SF. I am now tempted to check it out to see where my opinion falls relative everyone else's.
Resistance 3 wasnt even overhyped -_-
An Xbox site keeps commenting on PS3 games on a regular basis. Is it really that bad for 360 gamers. To me, it reads like he never played R3, which wouldn't surprise me. I thought it had a great campaign and was a little under rated. I played it Co-op with my girlfriend and we both loved it.
If you bothered to click the link you would know they went by sales
There's only two games that came out this year that met the hype and expectations, and maybe surpassed it. Batman Arkam City certainly surpassed expectations and Portal 2 met expectations.
I find that funny. and sad at the same time.
Resistance 3 wasn't over hyped and it didn't stink either. Xbox sites need to stick to their games. Talk about your own crap and quit trolling on other sites. PS Blog isn't talking about 360 or Nintendo games.
Just an Xbox site talking about sales.
"I live and breathe gaming til the day I die, or my hands give up, then there's always Kinect!!" *facepalm*
Yeah, but read the description of Resistance 3--it doesn't sound like the game at all--there were tons of games that sold worse that had hype--the problem people have with the review is that the general consensus considers Resistance 3 to be a solid first person shooter, as well as an around good experience--it just didn't sell well. So this person just seems to be trolling.
@itsallgud: Haha Now I wanna go play Uncharted 3 and Battlefield 3. I was sitting hear writing, but now I'm gonna go enjoy these "stinkers".
Resistance 3 was and is incredible. Anyone that loves shooters and better still really likes a great science fiction story, R3 is the ticket. Console/PC wise, for me Assassin's Creed Revelations has been the best in the series.
I'm sick of this site trashing good PS3 games just for the hits. I'm rating it down.
Resistance 3 overhyped? LMFAO! Please play the game first before talking shit. The game was incredible. Resistance 3's single player campaign may be the best FPS single player campaign since the Half Life games.
Resistance 3 overhyped? HAHAHAHA! It was a decent game but it was barely hyped at all.
It really is time to ban sites like MSxbox-world and PlanetXbox360. They couldn't be any more obvious about their intentions.
I still want Resistance 3 - Loved the previous 2. Yet to buy it as there simply has been so many games to play this year.
I dunno... 83 on Metacritic isn't bad. In fact it's should always be considered downright GREAT! But, the title is about being "Overhyped" and I recall quite a bit of hype for R3. As to whether or not it was overhyped, that's within the eye of the beholder. And well... we are bashing an Xbox site over this.
I thought R3 was pretty decent. Evidently a game has to be a top GOTY candidate and sell several million or it's a massive disappointment according to some. I thought it R3 was a big improvement over R2.
im going to say it but.....the resistance 3 singleplayer wasnt good. The multiplayer on the hand was good.
Resistance 3 was a great game, and metacritic proves it. All of these Xbox sites seem to be doubling their efforts in mudslinging. The others were indeed not that great.
@Jdub How dare you lol. The bias of N4G is crazy. I agree with you. R3 single player was average and the multiplayer was really fun. This is coming from an avid PS3er. Can't say it was really hyped due to Sony's poor marketing. Less than a million in sales for a game of that magnitude is very poor.
Resistance 3 was a good game....I do not see where the overhypeness is coming from....I enjoyed the heck out of it.
It's a great game, don't listen to them. Hands down my favorite driving game of 2011.
nice a new IP let's see what it actually is. I do believe playstaion smash bros is still alive and will be announced soon within next 6 months. i believe sony has a lot of stuff to announce for 2012-2013 and we will see a lot of announcements in coming months
....also sold below million: -Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One -Infamous 2 -SOCOM 4
I will agree with Socom 4, I was a huge Socom fanboy and fought tooth and nail over that game with people but this garbage ass game should have been scrapped and just released on the vita as they are doing with that Unit 13 or whatever the hell it is. Zipper Interactive has become a joke of a developer and it is now time for all the rats to leave the ship and leave Luisi at the helm headed for the iceberg. Infamous is an awesome game, Ratchet and Clank havent touched it so I cant comment on. Socom4 definitely sucked ass though.
You wish, guy. inFAMOUS 2 knocked it out of the ballpark. You're just sour about it.
socom 4 is the worst of the series by far
No2 interested in inFamous or R&C but I'm playing SOCOM 4 right now and am enjoying it. Except for the frustrating stealth sections.
I have no problem with an Xbox site talking about PS3 games, but he's way off with Resistance. It was critically acclaimed and thought by many to be the best in the series. I dont know why it didnt sell well, but it wasnt the quality of the game. Probably more to do with the crowded schedule. If were going to call games over hyped stinkers just because of sales, why not throw Forza in there? But looking at that list just makes me think it more people are sick of FPS's more than anything. Unless its Battlefield or CoD of course, which for some reason gets consumed like candy at halloween.
I didn't buy it because it had an online pass.
Yeah I get a kick out of articles that claim a game is over-hyped or sucks simply because it doesn't sell. Case in point: Okami. Okami sold less than a half a million copies on PS2. They had an install base of over 100 million consoles, over 20 million of which were in Japan. Yet it still coudn't pass 500,000 sold. Doesn't mean it isn't one of the best PS2 games made, let alone one of the greatest adventure games of all time. Video game sales have absolutely nothing to do with quality.
Okami was a great game but because it didnt sell well is the reason we dont have a great sequel. I hate when people refuse to buy games because an online pass. If you really intended on buying you wouldnt care abt the pass. If you like a game support it because at the end if we dont support the games, we wont see sequels.
an xbox site ran out of game to talk about, so they chose to bash the exclusive of the competition! sad and pathetic!
They seem to talk more about PS3 games, you're right. Yet people keep giving these trashy articles attention and making them heat up.
It doesn't matter what site says it Resistance 3 was still a failure.
I agree. The worst games I bought this year and did not want to even finish were killzon3 and resistance 3 and brink.
Bullshit r3 was alot better than part 2, it brought back rfom's gritty atmosphere and had a solid story of one man trying to do what is best for his families future.(better than most storys in video games) The only thing they screwed up on was taking r2 8 player coop missions. jazz "The worst games I bought this year and did not want to even finish were killzon3 and resistance 3 and brink." Gee surprise surprise let me guess crysis 2 was a better game than k3, weren't you cheerleading the crysis 2 is the best looking shooter around a few months ago. Talk about a boring and generic as hell shooter, that got returned after a few hrs of uninspired gameplay. Wow you think r3 and k3 belong in the same category as brink, try being less of a mindless bot and more of a gamer. I don't know whats worse an opposing website listing it's competitors exclusives as a stinker or that it's criteria as sales numbers to determine the list. But this is the mindless cod masses generation of gamers, where marketing and sales numbers have been more important to "gamers" than the actual quality and fun of gaming/experiences.
Driver SF is among my favourite 2011 games, and probably only beaten by TDU1 as my favourite open world racing game. It's also one of those rare games - in any genre - where I actually played through the story mode. In fact I was constantly so eager to see what was next on the menu in the increasingly bizarre dream world where it takes place, that I had a hard time putting the controller down between sessions. As the final nice touches it had cockpit views (still not something I expect from arcade racers), pretty great engine sounds and a (for an arcade racer) pretty solid handling model. Plus a very unexpected 60 fps framerate (only 30 in multiplayer though). The only flaw - and it was admittedly a pretty big one - was the complete lack of steering wheel support. I would have loved to use my Logitech G25 with the PS3 version.
Xbox360 site commenting on games from other consoles? And they expect us to believe that their opinion could not be in any way biased? Really?
@SkylerB, If you were a fan of the original Driver games on ps/ps2, the car handling and driving action will feel like a old familiar pair of comfortable sweatpants. In terms of kicking up nostalgic gameplay with pretty decent graphics, Driver San Francisco accomplished this. Where it went of the rails was its ludicrous story line and the ability to swap into other drivers minds to control their vehichle. This for me, was silly and immersion breaking. I think you can find the game pretty cheap now, probably for just over $20.. I'd say for that price it's at least worth checking out!
Why is an Xbox website mentioning a PS3 game on this list?
This is msxbox-world.com, they have so little to talk about on 360, they are constantly talking about PS3 exclusives. It's pretty weird, if they want to talk about other platforms so much, don't be called msxbox-world.com... then again, people may actually call you on the fanboyism. Same as their "disappointing sales" article. Resistance 3 was actually a very good game, so I'm not sure how they've come to this conclusion. There's no 360 exclusives on the list simply because there's no 360 exclusives, or so few none of them had a chance to be bad.
So few that none of them had a chance to be bad?? What does that even mean?? You're saying that 360 exclusives were great only because they were so few of them? In a very nonsensical way, all you said was Quality >>> Quantity, and that is just about the most sense I can make out from your ridiculous butt hurt statement
The only two exclusives the 360 had that were worth a damn this year were by experienced studios with a good pedigree. The rest was Kinect garbage that people knew were going to suck, so no one was hyped for. So, yes, there was so few exclusives, they had no hope of any "failures" due to hype. Quality will always beat out quantity, but PS3 had both, so you know, this still doesn't answer the question of how Resistance 3 is a bad game.
That is a good point, why name themselves msxbox-world if they mostly talk about the competition. I also wonder why this site n4g (news for gamers)is not called n4pg (news for playstation gamers). what i have noticed with n4g is the sites main page is the same as the PS3 section of the site most of the time. Also when ever i say negative of the PS3 i am attacked with no mercy o.o
In defense of Kinect--Dance Central 2 is an amazing game. It's actually the only Xbox 360 exclusive I really cared about this year.
lol, when you've not much to talk about aey. haters gunna hate Im actually thinking what i enjoyed more, Resistance 3 or NOT playing resistance 3 and reading this article ¬_¬ Ok im not being honest....i didnt read the article.
There's no 360 exclusives because the fanboy author didn't list them. Remember Rise of Nightmares and how it was suppose to signal the hardcore revolution for Kinect? It failed miserably and is already forgotten, so much so, that the author left it off the list in favor of a game with an 83 metascore and close to a million in sales. There's plenty of crap 360 exclusives to add to this list but stating the obvious does not generate traffic.
Because it's a general list, not an Xbox list. That's why the list says, "Biggest console stinkers" instead of "Biggest Xbox 360 stinkers" or something like that. Plus, just because it's an Xbox site doesn't mean the people there only play Xbox games.
Wholly irrelevent, as I said, they seem to spend a lot of articles talking about PS3 games. My point was don't call your site msxbox-world and start talking about other platform's exclusive games in a negative light, it makes you come across as desperate and fanboyish.
^^^^^ Or maybe n4g only cares about negative ps3 articles from their site.
If your site is based on one console you can't do that. Because obviously there's some bias going on and any criticisms you give to the other console will look bad, even if it's the truth.
You know it has been a great year of gaming on PS3 if a quality game such as resistance 3 is deemed 'poor'...
Heck yes! Next to Uncharted 3, it's my favorite exclusive this year. It is an awesome game and the weapons are fantastic. Stinker? I think not!
Resistance 3 was far from a "stinker." It's a good game. Sure, it's not as good as Uncharted 3, but it's still great.
I think Resistance shouldn't have been on there. Some people might hate it because it's exclusive to the PS but there is a bigger game that should take its place. Dead Island. This game in my opinion was the biggest disappointment of this year. The hype and trailer was so epic and when well I personally got the game I was so embarrassed to have bought the game.
Because they have no other games to comment on..
What is with these guys and Resistance 3 It was the best in the series despite what they said, it felt like a good old classic FPS with a bunch of bizare weapons to fool around with....so what if it didn't do well in sales.....which they ALSO pointed out in another article along with inFAMOUS 2. Seriously I don't mind a average website going on about all types of games but when you have a website like msxbox-world calling PS3 exclusives why don't they just stick to the console they made the website for.....the Xbox 360 I don't think I've ever come across a PS3 themed website calling out 360 exclusives for any type of reason.
in my opinion, rage was not bad,it was a good game but overhyped. i expected a lot more from it and ended up disapointed. although it did turn out to be a good game, the hype it recieved, and what i expected killed it for me.
Why are Xbox magazines obsessed with Resistance 3?
Because some fools compare it to Halo, and that stirs fear in the heart of the fanboy. Instead of being happy and recognizing that two very different games exist that are very good, they attack the non-360 one in fear that some might actually find happiness in a game that could be considered an alternative to Halo. It's the same with Uncharted and Gears. Uncharted came along with similarities as far as "it has a cover system" and sites like.....well this one....end up panicking.
Did they really just put Resistance 3 on the same level as Duke Nukem, Brink, and Bodycount?? This must be a sign of the world coming to an end!...or just another biased article from MSxboxWorld.com :/
Dont you see, they are from different world ;)
MSXbox-World.....where it's always greener, but there's only one (bias as heck) side.
wow resistance 3 really? Cheap move msxbox-world, nowhere is that even remotely true and dozens of reviews and quite a bit of fan support will attest to that. Low sales don't mean a bad game and the other points they made are actually opposite what I thought of the game.
They just called Driver SF "average" and included R3 on this list so they can go f**k themselves.
Resistance 3 was a really good game. The game does not focus on quick scoping, and you are NOT taken through the story with hand holding... like a lot of mindless shooters these days. You make all the decisions, not your squad, you are fully in contol... not the game. I hate the current approach to shooters... follow this guy to the next door, wait until your squad opens the door... etc. The story is great, the weapons are unique and inventive, and the game play is flawless. However what can we expect from most mindless shooting fans... most of this bunch just wants to jump on line, auto aim, and rank up. The Resistance franchise has always been more that this... For instance... First console shooter to offer 40 v 40 matches, and 60 v 60 matches... in the first two games alone. Keeping in mind it was Insomniac's first ever shooter, on line game, and first outing on the PS3. Then again I guess innovation in shooters in frowned upon. Take the most popular one at the moment as an example. R:FOM had a great on line community, and very old school arcade style gameplay, with weapon pick ups, carrying all weapons, etc... it was easy to play, but hard to master. This made it great! R2 was much more main streams, but did wonders for on line CO-op. Probably the weakest in the franchise as it tried to follow the trend. Completely negated hip fire... which was a mis-step I think. R3: Tried to combine both elements from the first two. This worked well in most parts. Told a lot more story and answered a lot of fan questions. Good game, even better story and a really unique shooter that innovated every time. Who said shooters needs to be the "same game every year"... clearly the majority as I guess sales = quality... right? Some people need to wake up or shut up.
Guessing this is only about sales because R3 scored an 83 on metacritic so I'd hardly say that's a stinker...unless ODST and Alan Wake are stinkers too.
