Confirmed: Skyrim PS3 patch doesn't fix lag

what did you expect? fallout 3 and oblivion were both terrible on the PS3. I generally enjoy the PS3, but I was very disappointed in Bethesda's lack of support for it

Oblivion was actually really good on PS3 it was the best console version since they had an extra year to work on it.

Mine is 9.5mb and i've had very few issues at all. Only one freeze that required a restart in over 80 hours of game.

The Lag, if anything, was actually worse for me after the patch yesterday. My game started freezing and hiccuping after like 2 hours instead of around 3 to 3.5-ish as before. I was super stoked when they said the patch was aimed specifically at long-term play problems but it literally has only made things worse for me.

I'm on the 360 but isn't the lag on the ps3 partly due to too many saves files being stored? Cleaning up your saved files should fix it?

no, because your saves get progressively bigger as you save.doesn't matter if you only allotted yourself 1 save it will get bigger the more you save and the game autosaves.

i dl'ed the patch and for 3hrs it was running as smooth as silk with a few shatters here and there.

then i hit whitehelm and the game lagged at like 5frames, i restarted and all was good again for like a hr.

i'm thinking of trading this in towards 13-2 because this is fcking ridiculous.

how this game got a goty nomination is beyond me, and don't give me that it's do anything go anywhere crap, because all it says about bethesda is they bit of more then they can crew and expect ppl to buy their fck up.

I would guess its some sort of memory leak as the games performance gradually slows down to a what some call "slideshow". This can take anything from few minutes to hours depending how long have you been playing the game (or at least how much you have done in the game).

The recent patch improved the performance for many tough including me. So Bethesda probably managed to fix the leak partially at least.

12mb save file here and the game runs nicely, not perfect but far from slideshow.

This sucks for those trying to play on the PS3. I think everyone should be able to play this fantastic game trouble free.

I know a lot of people who love Bethesda made games, but always wait a little while before buying them just because there always seem to be issues like this with them.

I don't care how great the reviews/scores are for #Skyrim, so long as this PS3 lag issue still exists it should be a negative zero.

Was hoping that the patch was going to fix the problem and then I was going to purchase the game.

You must have to play the game for a long time for it to become unplayable, to forget that whole experience when the lag kicks in and calling it a "negative zero" isn't really putting things in a fair perspective.

Surely this refers to framerate slowdown and not lag ie the framerate reduces in speed to less an ammount. This term is thrown about very wrongly. It will i'm sure give the impression that control input is lagging for example as well but that's because the screen is only refreshed so many times a second- as well the game slows down as a result of all this leading to people thinking control is lagging

Lag as in lagging behind refers to an entirely different thing. Online play as an example where you are shot while not being in the place you were previously. This Skyrim problem here though isn't anything to do with lag but rather because the engine is being brought down to a crawl. The term is rather stupidly accepted now brought about by misuse and made ever worse by media and forums etc

performance issues are not gone completely but who really expected that?
They delivered exactly what they said with "Improved occasional performance issues resulting from long term play (PlayStation 3)"
They never said it would be "fixed".

50 hours, 8mb. I Also have a friend who was on 12mb and 90 hours and he reported a big difference.
Clearly its different for everyone and articles like this don't tell the full story.

As far as I can tell, it hasn't been improved - at least not for me (and many, many others). If this many people still have big issues then no, they did not deliver exactly what they promised.

Dude seriously all you have to do to avoid the frame rate drops is to not play for more than an hour. I know thats hard during weekends but on weekends just turn your ps3 off for like 30 mins after the lag starts.

Such twaddle. The lag is there as soon as you start the game up. Especially if your last save was somewhere as busy as Whiterun or Windhelm.

My framerate issues were much better after installing the update. I have an original 60gb PS3 and my game save file is 11mb with 90+ hours of gameplay. Before it was so bad I could only play for an hour or 2 before I had to reset the game. I played for almost 4 hours last night and the game breaking framerate issues were gone. For me it happened most when riding a horse (especially when a dragon attacks) but after the update I had no issues except for a few random hiccups in the famerate.

Downloaded the patch yesterday morning and it worked, but now I've noticed the lag slowly but surely creeping in again. What a debacle: I'll never buy another Bethesda game on launch day again. This kind of disrespectable treatment towards PS3 users should not be tolerated.

only lag ive seen is in a quest where i had to kill a giant there were two mammoths, me, my companion, & like 5 bandits all on screen fighting & it was a lag fest until all the bandits were dead, but that is normal this gen get to many things going on at once & eveything lags like crazy!

mine was lagging very bad in a city i was doing the quest ,worst i found out the patch wasn't to fix the ps3 it was getting ready for dlc we get today Europe got already ,friend from there told me that patch was for dlc not fix lag ,or drop rate ,i play assassin creed revelation no problems same for saints row , i love sky rim but i had when my chacter moving so slow ,like one time i trying to talk to a guy end up stealing and apple getting warrant

Should i install the new patch? my lag starts after about three hours, but isn't game breaking (almost) just really annoying. im afraid that the patch might screw something up in the game or make the lag worse...
