Golden Axe PS3/X360: First details

The first details on Sega and Secret Level's long announced Golden Axe update have been revealed in the latest issue of PSM3.

If you're looking for a straight update you're probably going to be disappointed, because the classic bruiser has been pretty much completely re-imagined in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 update.

First off, you now play as one Amazonian hero, the scantily clad Tyris Flare, instead of the original game's trio of fantasy stereotypes. Gillus the dwarf and Ax Battler are still in the game, says PSM3, but only as supporting cast.

Back in my youth i used to go down the arcade and spend upto £1.00 playing this game (5 x 20p)...... I would be happy if it was an arcade port, i`ve got a funny feeling its going to be like watching William Shatner putting on a leotard though..... BAD!

Doesn't this mean that game will no longer have co-op? And what's with the open world approach. They could have easily chose a different name for the game if it's not much faithfull to the originals.

QTF...This game might be crap and the publishers know it. So the slap on a classic Arcade name on it, so it will get the attention older people that use to play this game back in they day of the Arcade.

For once I actually agree with you. Without Multiplayer Coop this game looses a lot of its original charm.

Free roaming might be cool as long as they don't worry too much about that and mak an awesome combat system. Too many open world games (Oblivion, Two Worlds etc) feature a lack luster combat engine. Golden ax needs to have this to be successfully.

Lame... Oh, wait... it's SEGA... that's expected. Typical, lame, uninspired. This will be a medievil hack n' slash bore fest... Untold Legends will have more quality to it and it was a launch game.

They could've simply named this game TYRIS FLARE: WARRIOR WOMAN and it's have more relevance than it does now. This is a piece a' Damn joke!

This actually reminds me of that Altered Beast revival they did on PS2 a few years ago. I guess they feel the classic gameplay won't hold up so they change them sometimes drastically, the problem is usually they suck when that happens. Thank goodness Vectorman didn't come out, that looked like a pile. I'm hoping this doesn't suck but I'm not putting too much into that.

Speaking of DEATH ADDER, isn't it strange how alike he and that dude from LORD OF THE RINGS look? The guy with the big Sword, the guy who gets his finger cut off at the 1st of it. The Dark Armor guy... I think it's uncanny. Yet, I know the books was written year and years before the game and all that, but I think the visuals weren't in place for the character. I think he's a spittin' image.

but if they were going to change the formula,it should play more like phantasy star online with improved combat.

you could have dragons that you could feed that would change into ice/fire/acid/wind/lightening/ etc depending on what you fed them.the more they eat,the more powerful the dragon's breath,size and strength would become when you used them.ride it or let it fly around from above until you called for it.

it would be a mission to free the land like in the old games,have side quests,and then find death adder and his henchmen for bosses.

camp to raise strength
fight off those little 'punks' stealing your potions
enter towns
get bigger and better swords like fire/ice/acid/wind/lightening/ etc(notice how the elements are the same as the dragons?)etc.

up to four players simultaneous play online or off.

but we'll see.........yeah,i thought about this a along time ago.

did anyone ever play the 3d golden axe game that sega put out as part of the (i think) sega ages collection on ps2?

i played it at a friends place just to see how bad it was! painfull!

i have no hope for this game, sega really knows how to make games suck! except for condemned and i guess VF even though thats not really my idea of a fun game, however i would like to see a next gen nights on ps3 and 360
