Chris Reese, the Technical Director at SCEA Bend Studio writes:
"Hi everyone. I wanted to let everyone know that Syphon Filter: Combat Ops was recently released on the PLAYSTATION Store for PC, where you can now download it to your PSP. Hopefully many of you were able to see a sneak preview of Combat Ops that we included on the UMD release of Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow, but in the event that you haven't let me tell you a little more about what to expect with it.
Syphon Filter: Combat Ops builds on the 8-player infrastructure and ad-hoc multiplayer game that was first released with Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and now recently Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow. The sneak preview allowed players to create missions from one of the modifiable maps and play those maps against friends via an ad-hoc connection. With the full version of the game that can now be purchased and downloaded from the PLAYSTATION Store, you will now be able to choose from 4 customizable maps to create multiplayer missions. For me, the most exciting part is that those missions can be uploaded to the online community that can be shared and played with other fellow players via an infrastructure WiFi connection".
The top ten PSP downloads in May, according to the Playstation Pulse.
Pretty damn good game. I see how this would get the top spot.
Sony started to release UMD Legacy games from the Playstation Store on the PSP in fall of 2007. Here are five notable titles that were released so far.
Sony needs to release more UMD legacy games and regularly at least one or two per week
From PSI:
"This month Syphon Filter, a minor classic and cult favorite with action nuts (myself included) turns ten. For me, that's hard to believe. Ten years ago, in February 1999, I was twelve and in the middle of sixth grade at the time. I didn't even own a Playstation yet. I do remember, with great fondness, playing the original Syphon Filter demo at my local Target and enjoying the game a great deal. There were many reasons not to like it."
"The two PS-X follow-ups were good; 2 had near-brutal difficulty at times and 3 was a tad too easy, but still fun. Omega Strain was bleh. Dark Mirror and Logan’s Shadow were a nice return to form with strong plots and a stronger focus on characters."
their whole retrospective....
How many does this make now? I'm almost sick of this franchise... I love the PSP versions, but this is too much. Give it a rest, will ya? Everytime I turn around I'm Ass hole deep into another one.
