Electronic Farmyard Review: My Town 2 (iPhone)

The Electronic Farmyard writes:

'Let’s me make this simple for everyone. My Town 2 by Booya studios is a game that will appeal to one type of gamer. The Builder. If you owned a copy of Sim City and played it till the disk was a molten sludge of glistening plastic. Clearly you needed to get out more! However this game will be kind of up your street. KIND OF being the operative phrase.'

5-year-old racks up hundreds on 'free' iPhone app

A kindergartener who was smart enough to download a free iPhone app is still a bit unclear on the difference between real and virtual money.

Zachary Beegle, 5, got his mother's permission to download the popular MyTown2 game from the Apple App Store Nov. 11.

Lisa Beegle also authorized Zachary to charge $1.99 to her debit card for a stack of virtual coins to play the Monopoly-like game.

"It's all pretend money," Zachary pointed out.

Lol @ the parents blaming the app's developers for trying to "trick" people into paying for games. Just based on the iPhone games I've played, they are always pretty clear when they ask for real money. The kid would have had to go through a series of confirmations in order to purchase fake money to begin with.

The parents are idiots for authorizing the credit card details in the first place, and letting their 5 year old have access to an online game, and not supervising his playtime. If I'd asked for my mom's credit card details at the age of five, she would have told me to bugger off.

I agree on all counts. What's a five-year-old doing on an iPhone anyhow? Let the kid be happy with his G.I. Joe action figures and call it a day.

GameZebo: MyTown 2 Review

GameZebo: MyTown 2 attempts to merge the location-based gaming of the original MyTown with a more standard city-building sim like CityVille. You build homes, community buildings, and decorations, but you can also create businesses based on real shops and restaurants that are near you in real life. It's a neat twist, but it doesn't do much to alter the core gameplay, which is essentially that of a competent CityVille clone.
