The Real Reason Battlefield 3 Is Not And Will Not Be "Better" Than Modern Warfare 3

In addition to battlefield, other FPSs have been written off aswell because of the grip COD has on the industry. Rainbow six, ARMA, Counter Strike, etc. all good games overshadowed by the game that is COD. Battlefield won't eclipse cod in sales because COD has become a cultural phenomenon. It has been referenced in movies, TV shows, and music. If that isn't representative of how far cod's reach is, it's that it has sold better than hit blockbuster movies. It's a shame that so many shooters are compared to cod, and rated accordingly, but that's the effect of having a monopoly shooter.

The problem is with the use of the wrod "Better". Battlefield 3 may indeed be a 'better' all round game. However it will not have 'better' sales numbers.

Are we now a generation of gamers that buy games because of sales numbers, or do we buy games because of better gaming experiences?

The real question should be, will MW3 offer a better all round gaming experience than BF3?

Hufanpuf has a point. we buy stuff for its popularity. like he said we see COD everywhere now movies,tv shows, etc. Even your friends make you buy the game because you want to play with them. Battlefield, counter strike, rainbow six, etc are all good games and will still be good games but COD might be the same game every year just different skin guns and maps but it will never be beat in sales. For me im no COD fan after COD4 i tried playing but didnt like the rest so i stood with BF3 and so far i love it.

I like BF3 as much as everyone but I do think it has a few flaws even for such a great game but so dose cod and I have never felt like any game was perfect and bug free.You may have to work harder in BF but you still have to try hard to be good in COD sure it's easier to get kills in cod over BF3 but to be good at cod you do have to try and think out what your doing just like BF3/BC,and As to what game is better thats all a matter of opinion just play what you like no need to hate on each others games but the real question is who keeps approving this bait ?

Let's see, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 has a more polished single player, more fleshed out cooperative play and a more polished and accessible multiplayer. By every measurable standard, it's better than Battlefield 3. Prior games' successes has nothing to do with why Modern Warfare 3 is the better game. It just is. Battlefield 3 as a package suffers greatly from a mediocre single player, tacked on cooperative play and a multiplayer that is outshone by it's own predecessor. The game doesn't even live up to Battlefield 2. SMH at some Battlefield 3 fanboy writing an article to convince himself that the reason Battlefield 3 wont be as well received critically and commercially as Modern Warfare 3 is because of the success of previous Call of Duty games. Sure buddy. Keep sniffing glue. Battlefield 3 would have been better if it came out next March and they dumped single player and co-op because as a package, it's not any competition for Modern Warfare 3.

I for one don't buy games based on their popularity.

I did buy battlefield, and I will buy mw3.

But I buy games based on their fun factor, and i believe everyone else does. I find Call of duty more fun, not more realistic, not more stuff like tanks and jets, but because I find it more FUN.

Call of duty may have better sales, but i find it very hard to believe that gamers buy stuff because of it's numbers. It gets really old to see articles like this still comparing these two games. Just play what you're gonna play and be happy.

i am from the uk but live in france. yesterday mw3 went on sale in shop near where i live, and the queue was enormous all day!!!

cod has become an animal! personally, i will wait and see if i will buy it.

but for every fanturd on n4g that slags this game off in every thread, there are millions out there that love it.

cod is a pick up and play shooter, it doesnt require hours and hours of practice to become good at, and is accesible. that is why the game sells millions and millions.

to some people, cod is a great game, that offers limitless on-line fun. and can reward highly for very little time investment. whereas a game like halo takes a long time to become good at, and even then you can be sure that you will go into a game and find someone who will hand you your arse time and time again.

at the mo i am stuck into bf3. my on-line pals are on-fire, and our squad or squads when we have more than 4 in a party chat/server (360 im palying this on) are buzzing. in one game of conquest friday nite, me and one of my pals scored over 9k each in the ROUND... that was before the ribbons score was added.

bf3 is too much team focused to become a game that can rival in sales cod! im not saying which is better because frankly, they are totally different on-line experiences, and should be considered as such.

True, but that has nothing to do with Call of Duty. Call of Duty pretty much has built in cheats (heavy aim assist, lag compensation, smooth framerate and controls, fast paced), and that's pretty much what makes it fun for people. They can hop on any time and have fun instantly without having to spend 2 hours mastering the controls again.

Sure, they're lazy gamers, but then again, they're probably not gamers to begin with, so just because they don't have good games in their collection doesn't mean they suck at life.

BF games aren't realistic at all. There are certain design elements that are meant to give the impression of realism (Like bullet drop) but at the end of the day its no more realistic than CoD is.

BF offers a different play style than CoD .You have sandbox play vs arena style play. If you prefer one over the other, thats fine, but that doesn't mean one is better than the other.

The other day I successfully captured a flag in Battlefield 3 all by myself. What a proud personal moment. Then, an enemy tank stopped right next to the flag, trying to recapture it. No problem. It doesn't have a second gunner so I'll RPG it to bits from my hiding spot. A second tank suddenly appear before I could do anything. Followed by a third one. Then, the Tunguska AA tank joined the trio.

No. That's one firefight I'll have to pass.

The maps in BF3 are large to prevent base rapes that were prevalent in Bad Company 2. Most of the flags are concentrated near each other right in the middle of the map. They really are not that far from each other. The big expanse surrounding them also provide a safe haven for jets to dogfight each other/auto repair from pesky AA missles.

I understand what he's saying in this article, but a lot of people will just see this as flamebait. Here's the thing though: he's right. If you wait and see the ratings for MW3, I'm going to guess they will be at least a few points higher than BF3. Why? We already know this, but reviews are not only scored based on a games fun and value, but on money and popularity. No one is completely impartial (a completely impartial and unbiased review would sort of be boring, wouldn't it), but therein lies the problem.

A person who loves battlefield and has played every one to date will probably rate BF3 higher than MW3. But chances are, with the sales that MW3 has and the fact that MW3 is MUCH easier to learn and play, most reviewers will have played and enjoyed a previous CoD title and, regardless of what they say or WANT to believe, this will factor into their reviews scored. Long story short -> MW3 will most likely rank higher than MW3.

I myself love BF3 right now; I haven't had major problems like I thought I would, I don't hate Origin, like a lot of others do, and I don't have NEARLY as many problems with BF3 like I did with Black Ops on the ps3 at launch. The game is amazing and crazy and every game is fun. That's all that matters to me ... but the guy is right. MW3 will score higher than BF3, most likely. But I don't agree it will be "better."

I let my 13 year old daughter play a few rounds of black ops the other week (pre BF3 release), she was not owning but she held her own around upper mid table at the finish of the rounds, she had a + kill/death ratio... she gave me back the pad and said its pretty easy once you get the hang of it ..

I've been playing BF3 since beta and I can't say i'm having fun. There's hardly any mode and it's way to slow pace for me. I play it till MW3 then bye bye BF3. A game that is objective base but you can't talk to your team with voice chat is stupid, unless you put people from your friends list in the comcenter. Plus most people don't even communicate with text chat, unless they have a complain to do.

Graphics wise it is superb, and I love the fact that you can destroy walls and buildings. So fast pace for me and lot's a mode to play.

Ok, the TDM is pretty fast paced. I actually like the fact that I don't take five steps and boom I die due to some idiots napalm strike 15 feet away from me.

You don't talk with your team you talk with your squad, that way its easier to keep track of what your squad does, rather than trying to organize 12 people.. If your in the squad and no one is talking, its usually its because people are in a party or they don't have a mike or MAYBE its because they don't want to bother talking with strangers. (Which in my opinion I would say, then go Lone Wolf and don't try to mooch the squad by gaining close spawn further down the front line only to leave my to die even though your a assault class and have a defib).

Grow up MW3 is a piece of rehashed piece of shit. My first COD was Black Ops. Got rid of it a couple of months later. Since COD4 I have bought the game because my friends are playing. I did not like MW2 because of IWNET (PC). I could not just jump in a server and wait for my friends to join. I would have to back out of a game and connect over and over again. BlackOps went back to dedi's and was okay again. I am not sure what MW3 is going to be like with the servers. They keep talking double talk.

This will be the first COD I will not get (Since COD1) on day one and wait for the reviews and news about the PC Dedi situation. They are no real pre-order bonuses so I can wait and not miss anything.

I love COD games but it's just as easy for me to rack up 25 kills in BF3. If you're faster and more skilled than the other guy shooting at you then you will get more kills period, I don't care what game it is. They seem to have sorted at least some of the lag, and the rubberbanding is happening a lot less, but it still needs a bit of a polish up to enjoy it fully!

Okay here's the deal.

I don't want to "work hard" in a video game to get good at it. To. E, that's the wrong reason for playing a video game.

In other words, I don't want to feel like I'm at work when I play video games. I just wanna jump online no matter if I'm new or a veteran and get kills. There's nothing that turns me off more than to come to a series late (as a noob) and you can't do anything or even get a bullet to come out of your gun and you're dead in 2 seconds. That to me isn't a good time.

In cod games, you can start getting kills almost instantly, whether it's a noob toob to the face or just pressing the knife button and admit it, it make you excited whn you're new and you kill someone who's been at it for years.

My buddy plays socom on ps2 and he tried getting me into it but there's no respawn, so I spend 5 seconds playing (even though I'm at my teams spawn point) and somehow I get killed.... Now I have to wait 5 minutes for the next round. How do you get good at a game like that when you are trying to figure out the controls but you die before you can figure out how to shoot.

Games can get sales numbers based on hype and what the prior installment sold. However, when you look at the numbers nd see people still playing the game 2 years ofter it came out then you know that they like it. This argument is always used for the excusses as to why Halo does well. People play what they like end of story.

i think they got the single player right in addition to run-n-gun action. Bf3 on the other hand has a mediocre sp campaign which tries too hard to provide Cod type over-the-top moments but fails. but they got the mp really good. it 's a lot of fun.

BF and CoD cannot be compared to each other. Sure you may like one more than the other, but they are completely different games.

Now, to say one game isn't better because of rep, being better is based off similar comparisons, so to say a game is better because of "rep" is just stupid.

however, in my opinion im probably going to enjoy mw3 more than i enjoyed bf3 because im still addicted to the whole cod concept. bf3 was a change that would have taken me time to move to. for bf players it would be easier and they would love it.
can't we just have information about stuff that we want to hear apart from about 20 articles about bf3 vs Cod...its really boring now.

isnt COD running on the same engine from last 5 ones. thats why i refuse to give them my money its like madden same shit every year with 1 or 2 options added. and because it has a well established name people buy this junk and make the company richer. i wont take part in that. Nope. They've updated their engine as well. It is NOT the exact same engine as 5 years ago.

Can someone tell me what's so innovative about BF3? I play it. It's just like all the other shooters. COD had tanks before, the only thing BF has different is the scale of destruction and jets. And what are these gameplay mechanics that have not been seen in any other shooter?

As far as I know, it's been the same set up since Golden Eye 64 or so. Trigger button to shoot and aim, buttons to jump or prone. A knifing button.

What is so different about BF3 than other FPS shooters?

Is it that they make it so hard to team up with your friends online to play? Is it that you have to switch teams constantly, or squads to get on with people you're already partied up with?

I don't know.. To me this sounds that he should switch BF and MW's places in that sentence.

Call of Duty's previous titles have been everything but stellar. CoD 1 and 2 (not MW) were amazing, 3 ok too. Some really mediocre WWII games after that, MW great, and after that all games basically the same, with exception of World at war, simple addicting shooters.

BF have been pushing boundaries of online-gaming and fps all the time. It really doesn't need explanation, Dice are pioneers of this industry, and online fps-genre.

I get the point of this article, but he's reasonings are a bit odd.

While MW3 will definitely sell like hotcakes, no one can really say how good that game is going to be until we have the discs in our consoles and the controllers in our hands. Reviews nowadays are often a heaping pile of bullshit, so I always take a review with a grain of salt.

What is odd, though, is I'm hearing a lot of people that were huge fans of COD jumping to BF3, due to the fact they think the COD style of play is growing stale. While I'm sure that's not the majority of people, it is interesting to hear.

I bought BF3 and will be renting MW3 from GameFly, due to my uncertainty in how much I'll like the game. I've played all the COD's and all the BF's, but due to my tactical preference and after some of the COD experiences I've had, I'd take a BF game any day.

To each his own, though. We'll see when MW3 launches this week...

I've been playing Call of Duty games online since freshman year of high school... I got Battlefield 3 and I'm already at level 40. And trust me It just doesn't scratch the surface... Playing Call of Duty 2 made me happy as a 14 year old. The excitement and love that I felt during the countless hours with freinds on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.. And than playing MW2 which was a massive experience. I didn't really like Black Ops... Though I had some fun with treyarch's WaW and Call of Duty 3 before it. I gotta say. Battlefield just pales in comparison.
