why so much comparing to Wow ... Wow didn't invent the wheel ..

what a weird review

Perjoss4941d ago

wow didn't invent the wheel but it converted it into a 20 inch chrome beast with the lowest profile tires you've ever seen.

Redempteur4941d ago

Well no , if anything wow made it a mainstream wheel you'd find in your supermarket ..

Bakc to the review it's a somewhat nice conclusion , yet the other games used for describing xenoblade doesn't fit much within the explanations ...wow didn't invent the countdowns for spells ... yet you'd think everything before wow didn't happen if you read this .

AbyssMaster4941d ago

Whether it invented anything doesn't matter. It's a point of reference. Why I'm comparing Xenoblade to WoW and not, say, some other RPG with similar elements (which I actually do a couple of times with FFXII) is because WoW is an example that more people can understand and relate to if they've ever played it.

It's the same reason why every single MMO is compared to WoW, even if WoW wasn't the first MMO to be made. It has nothing to do with "inventing the wheel".

Redempteur4941d ago

IMO you used it too much ... i get it that you have to be simple for people to understand but when the same game is used so much in a review , people will get ideas , xenoblade is quite far from wow , there are plenty of rpg with similar elements to compare to ..

Yes you used ff12 , but why Wow so much ? There are plenty of solo rpgs with huge scopes and plenty of rpgs ( not turn based ) to compare it to..

"It's the same reason why every single MMO is compared to WoW"
And since when xenoblade is a MMo ? WOW isn't a benchmark for everything ..

AbyssMaster4941d ago

(For some reason the site won't let me reply to Redempteur's comment, so I'll reply like this.)

"IMO you used it too much ... i get it that you have to be simple for people to understand but when the same game is used so much in a review , people will get ideas , xenoblade is quite far from wow , there are plenty of rpg with similar elements to compare to .."

WoW is referenced at four seperate occasions in the review. That's not "so much", especially considering I reference FFXII at least as much in the same review. Furthermore, it's all related to the gameplay, which is UNDENIABLY similar to WoW's. That is why I draw those comparisons. It would have been the same deal if I drew comparisons to some other, well-known RPG that had gameplay similar to Xenoblade's - it's for reference. It's for people to get an idea of what the game is like by using another game to illustrate. WoW players can look at this review and through their knowledge of the game better understand what I'm getting at with the review through those comparisons.

"And since when xenoblade is a MMo ? WOW isn't a benchmark for everything .."

It was an example to illustrate that despite not being the first of its kind, WoW is a valid point of reference in reviews due to its mainstream and well-known nature.

that how N4g comment system works , at this point, your reply like this .

Anyway I stay on my original comment , that's too much , for a game that isn't remotly in the same status and genre , as many comparaison to wow is just too much .. You're free to write articles while comparing every rpg to Wow if you want , because wow & final fantasy are "mainstream" ( i hope you don't do this ) BUT IMO that just show how this review could have used other examples to get to the points written. Xenoblade borrow from a lot of titles and genres ,and i think that with the start of the review it kinda miss the whole point ..

That's my opinion, you're free to reply or to disagree , but i've explained my point, you've explained yours ..we're not going to agree anytime soon , see ya later .

My advice however is to use more adequate and varied references in the future because as much mainstream wow and final fantasy are , there are too other rpgs on the market.

good luck next time

AbyssMaster4941d ago

We might not agree but that's because your argument is flawed. It seems you completely missed the point where I said that the examples were meant to be POINTS OF REFERENCE. I don't NEED to draw comparisons to other RPGs if I can already adequately compare the gameplay to games like FFXII and WoW. The only reason why anyone would want me to NOT compare them in a grand total of FOUR places, would to me appear to be that they simply dislike WoW.

Zeldafan64205d ago

I've got about 1500 hours into all 4 Xenoblade games. It's now tied with Zelda as my favorite series. We need a Xenoblade Warriors game.

Best JRPG series of the last 5 years imo

repsahj578d ago

I agree 100%. My top JRPG so far, together with Baldurs Gate 3 and FF16.

autobotdan578d ago (Edited 578d ago )

There is no together at the top. There is only one top jrpg series. Xenoblade Chronicles series is alone at the top

raWfodog578d ago (Edited 578d ago )

I like the Xenoblades series but my ‘top’ series would be either the Trails series or Persona series. Just too many good games for me to just pick one series though, so I say play them all lol.

autobotdan578d ago

You are hereby excommunicated the church of Xenoblade Chronocology

CappyBlack578d ago

I'm not huge into JRPGs, but my favorite is easily the Persona series. It's all opinion though. Xenoblade is a great series.

repsahj578d ago

XC4 for Switch 2 for the win!! So excited!

phoenixwing578d ago
