Uncharted 3’s 3D Utilization Is the Avatar of 3D Gaming

"When Sony released a firmware update just last year enabling support of stereoscopic 3D gaming on the PlayStation 3, Nick was instantly a skeptic knowing that without building a console from the ground up with this technology in mind, the effectiveness would be limited. Thanks to his recent purchase of the Sony XBR-46HX909 3D LED Television, Nick has had the opportunity to test out numerous 3D titles within the comfort of his own home and determine if 3D really is a worthwhile feature this console generation and up to this point he would have said 'No'."

If you own a 3D television, PLEASE get your hands on Uncharted 3 and prepare to be blown away!

remanutd552565d ago

i was blown away by Motorstorm Apocalypse but will take your word and check Uncharted 3 in 3D

Wish I could afford a 3DTV right now. But alas my 50" LG LED will have to do for now. I'm sure Uncharted 3 will still look stellar in 2D. Having said that, 3DTV's have gone down tremendously in price. You can get a pretty good one for right at $1000.

@iamsuperman (below)
I'm pretty sure Uncharted 3 was built from the ground up for 3D.

Motorstorm 3, KZ3, GoW Origins all blew my mind in 3D! Uncharted? come to papa! :-)

Knushwood Butt2565d ago

I do, and I will. Thanks.

I still think there are other very worthy 3D games out there though.

Super Stardust 3D
Killzone 3 (although a too shadowy at the default settings)

Worst implementation yet award goes to............

Resistance 3

GoldenPheasant2565d ago

Really Restistance 3? I'm still very much picking it up as its been on my to buy list, but I was looking forward to the 3D implementation. I didn't know it was that bad. Can anyone else confirm?

What kinda kit you using Knush?

M-Easy2565d ago

Umm R3 looks sweet in 3D. The game seems to run slower though.

poopsack2565d ago

R3 looked great in 3d, far from the worst, very far.

badz1492565d ago

it's just not THAT good either! seems like an afterthought!

the game itself is great, no question about it but 3D could've been better! it becomes a mess especially in the dark rooms and there's plenty of dark rooms in it too!

Knushwood Butt2565d ago

Pretty much what badz147 said really.

It's not so much that the 3D implementation is bad, but more that the game (Resistance 3) just doesn't suit it.

Way too many confined locations, dark locations, or confined, dark locations....

For 3D to work well you need to have points of reference and contrast. Larger environments with points of reference in the foreground and background in order to provide the contrast.

If you've just got some wall in front of you in a very dark environment it does not suit 3D well at all....

I have heard this before. The thing is 3D is great if the entertainment is built from the ground up with 3D in mind. The problem with 3D is people trying to capitalize on it. It has happened in the film industry all ready and I am assuming it is going to happen to the gaming industry as well. Lets hope there are more developers out their that decide to build games with 3D in mind and non of this post production rubbish

Silly gameAr2565d ago (Edited 2565d ago )

According to Sony, most of the PS3 games that came or are coming out with 3D are built from the ground up. Uncharted 3 was one of those games. There's been plenty of articles about it iamsuperman, so I'm not sure why you would think it's post production rubbish.

Here's one of the articles I found.

"3D support planned from outset of development."

E. No, I think I got your point well enough.

iamnsuperman2565d ago

you have clearly missed my point. I am hoping developers take time on it and not do it post production like what has happened to the film industry. Just because Sony are doing it doesn't mean every one else will. Sony not only profit from the games but the 3D television they could sell. Publishers like EA or Activision who do not see this added incentive may (I hope not) go for the cheaper option.

tmanmushroom2565d ago

I have no doubt that NaughtyDog will provide us will a great 3D experience. They still have yet to let me down!

GUYwhoPLAYSvideoGAME2565d ago
