A lot better? Really? Maybe I'm just the realist here, but the beta on the consoles is ugly. I don't do PC gaming, I've got a PS3 and a 360, and if people want, they can split hairs, but it's pretty damn hideous on both, and this is coming from a guy who was super hyped on this game.

The gameplay elements are really good, but I can finally say for myself that this is a PC game. There need to be more people on the map to create the chaotic war atmosphere. I hear people say the beta doesn't have vehicles, but when you add vehicles, there will be even less people running around on an already massive map! So far for consoles games, KZ3 has been the one game to truly nail that feeling that you're in a warzone, granted it's multiplayer is completely broken.

Anyway, I digress. Needless to say, I'm overall disappointed. I'll play around with the beta some more, but I may have to give it to MW3.

Yea? You can say that for yourself? Battlefield has always been a PC game. There is no argument in that, in any sense. But BF3 on consoles is not "ugly." It's all this media hype and comparisons of this generation that have people, the people who are supposed to just be enjoying gaming, looking at things through filters. Of course the console version doesn't stand up to the PC version, but anyone with some sense knew this long before the public beta was released.

To me BF3 graphics style looks real similar to Crysis 2, and out of those 2 just going from the beta of the ps3 version, crysis 2 seems to look better since everything in crysis 2 looked smoother. I may be wrong since I don't have a long time playing with either game.

I agree with Dacapn. PS3 and 360 versions are ugly as sin. I think this really goes to show the age of these systems. Upgrade time.

The PC counterpart is much, much better. Naturally of course. We all expected this.

You all can argue which system is better but the truth is, they are running the exact same textures. They look just about identical. What one person sees is something that another doesn't.

It is a beta so please remember, things can change. I doubt they will improve enough though.

Anyone that thinks the final version of the game will look like any of these beta's needs to stop thinking that....Both PS3 and PC will look better. They will add in the uncompressed data and things they didn't need for the beta in the final game, which will make the game look a LOT better.

Am I saying a PS3 will look identical to a high end computer? Not at all, its common sense the guy spending more money will look better, at least I hope. Thats why I'm saying BOTH will improve. Problem is people like me don't care, we like to just simply enjoy games period. Why can no one else do that?

Plus the whole chaotic warfare is cool, but I don't think we need a full 64 players on PS3, I'd be happy if they simply up it to 32. I think that will fill a lot of the gaps.

Dacapn, you do realize that the map size is likely the same as it would be for 12v12 on the PC, right? More people = bigger maps, not the same maps. The console maps are small enough for the number of people on them.

As for the console graphics, people must consider how much is going on and how big the maps are. Still, I am 99% certain the graphics will be better for release, because there were some huge BFBC2 expansion maps, and to me that game had slightly better graphics than the current beta. And I keep hearing people say that this beta is actually running an old graphics build relative to the the other showings of the game.

KwietStorm, yeah like I said, I don't game on PC, but I have played MAG, KZ2/3, COD, Resistance, and here's what I can gather. If we're talking straight visuals, all the above mentioned games look better than this beta, and the one that stands out is Resistance...a launch title looks better than this. Now when I say I can see that it's a PC game, what I mean is if the PC version supports 64 players, the game is going to feel a whole lot more like MAG, KZ2/3, and Resistance in terms of feeling like an actual battlefield. That much I can tell. What gets me is that the 12 vs 12 numbers is way better represented in Killzone. These maps are just too big for 12 vs 12. It feels more like COD. Adding 4 more people to each team and taking into account that some people are going to be in jets, or boats, or helicopters or whatever, doesn't seem at help the empty feeling of the gun fights.

frostypants, I get what you're trying to say, but can we at least agree that if you're right, then DICE is straight up retarded in releasing a beta that borderline looks like a PS2 game? When you claim to be going right at call of duty, you release a beta to hopefully capture an audience and make it look like garbage. Dumb. Not when the game is a month away from release. Those of us who look up games and really dig into it to find what's in it make up a very small portion of the people who actually buy the game. I guarantee people are hearing about this battlefield game, downloading the beta, and saying this is dumb, I'm going to buy MW3. You look at the KZ3 beta, and it was gorgeous. It was basically the game. The only other beta that did what dice did was the Halo 3 beta and at least they had the sense to tell you that it was basically Halo2 with Halo3's new gameplay.

1. It's a beta.
2. The entire beta is 1.9 GB. If you honestly believe they're going to fit high resolution textures in something so small, then you're insane.
3. Give what to MW3? Even if Battlefield 3 looked the way it did from beta to launch, it would still look more polished than MW3, and has more content to boot.

I'm glad you brought up MAG, because my first thought when I started my first game in this beta was that "The MAG beta looked better than this". I love MAG and still play regularly, but It's no graphical showcase. I understand it's visuals had to be that way to make 256 player games possible, and once I got into those big matches I no longer noticed the graphics. There are obviously more visual effects going on with this beta, not to mention the destructible environments (though they don't seem to be all that destructible for the most part), but DICE's claims of next gen visuals on current gen hardware are really funny now. I do think it will get better for release, but it will certainly not challenge for any graphical crown in this gen, much less the next. That said, it's really fun. I'm having more fun with this than I ever had with the BC2 beta. I don't understand what this game has to do with getting or not getting MW3 though, unless it's just a money issue. They are two very different games. BF3 for me.

Now don't get it twisted. I will choose battlefield's multiplayer over KZ3's any day, mainly because it broken, but I'm bringing it up because your argument makes no sense in the light of other FPSs. Defend the gameplay of battlefield, but don't defend the visuals. That's just not worth your time.

I've been in the alpha, and now the beta. The beta is an old build, since it looks like alpha. Also, how on earth are you comparing a corridor shooter to BF3 and expect it to somehow be an okay comparison?

Yes, BF3 easily looks better than MW3. And it's even more sad that you believe Bad Company 2 will look nicer than BF3, a newer iteration running on a better engine.

I've seen various proven issues with the beta that concludes that it's just that, a beta of an old build of the game. Not to mention, we've SEEN a newer build of BF3 on the 360. How are you even arguing this?

I agree with you on the graphics. Its the first thing I though of when I started playing. The graphics and character models look really bad compared to what they were building us up for.

Also realize that you'll never convince the fanboys in love and determined to BF3 will the "teh best evarrrrr".

Also, I've listened to months of people complaining of the camping, and noob tactics of COD. In the BF3 demo/beta I've played for about 4 hours now and all people to is get sniper rifles and aim down the subway rails camping their ass off and the you have tards using rpgs all over the place. Seems to me that BF fans must think of this as "strategic" but in COD its lame and noobish.

Bottom line is that graphically, this Beta is not even close to the KZ3 Beta (never mind the game). And from the footage I've seen from CONSOLE versions of MW3 vs. this Beta, MW3 looks much more smooth and polished than BF3.

I really hope this game plays, spawns, and looks a lot better than this demo because this demo has left a worse impression than last years MOH. I was going to buy it regardless because I really like BFBC and they seem similar. But I'm not wearing any BF blinders and can honestly say, this game is looking average at best right now.

Crysis 2 is still the best looking game on 360, and Killzone 3 is still the best looking game on PS3. BF3 looks horrible on both my consoles, and I'm not even a PC gamer.

I can remember the hype for the graphics of this game around 6 months ago, I thought it would BLOW me out of the water, instead, it looks worse than Modern Warfare 2.

I'll be getting this on my PC and one or both consoles, but I'm not expecting it will look THAT much better, aside from higher res. I don't have a beastly PC, I have an average one like just about everyone else.

8800GTX with a quad core will easily stream roll the console version, i bet it would play this game in dx 10, 1080p easily (which is way beyond console standard).

Anyways console gamers like to delude themselves about how the dated tech in consoles can still be maxed out so they keep falling for dev crap about how so and so hardware is being used to its maxed potential lol.

2500k @ 4.6ghz and sli 580s... Not messed up in my opinion! Talking about a 20% drop in frames, somebody that's hitting 40fps average with a gtx 570 would see a 20% drop to 32fps ... I'm not saying I can see much of a difference in the graphics but Ultra is doing something!

Played all 3 versions side by side , PC just looks and feels better to play , battlelog is awesome too , prefer it to the usual in game browser crap that was in the older battlefields.

The console version was quite fun but the 360 version did not seem as stable as the ps3 version BUT thats because its a beta after all , random lag , jittering , people fallng through floors etc. Other than that the differances were too subtle for me to notice.

So all in all IMO , if u have a PC get it on their, if u don't i would get it on console day 1 regardless.

i think it looks great, when you consider the detail, amount of objects, size of the maps, terrain deformation......all that while looking pretty damn nice, is it the smoothest or best ever, no, but is it still very good, yes. if you disagree then yo must have a shitty tv becuase my sony bravia at 1080p looked great.

when you compare it to other console shooters, just think of the map size alone, 1 area is as large as most full maps in other games.

I have a 240hz 1080p 3D HX Bravia and my TV exposed this game.

Effects in the background look nice (missile launching out of city over the water) but the rest is a hot mess. Especially compared to what they primed us for.

P.S. 3D is sick. Watched TRON in 3D and it was crazy! Better than the movies!

I've played the PC alpha beta and the PS3 beta so far. I consider myself a PS3 gamer and when I first signed into a game on the PS3 the first thing I said to myself was, "Man this looks like shit compared to the PC version I played." Take that as you will, but the console vs computer isn't even close in terms of looks at this point, obviously that is subject to change because these are betas.

I think this is a more a demo than a beta; it ends within two weeks of BF3 being released. There will be some some improvements (like bugs/glitches) but not a major overhaul; IMO what we're seeing now will be what we'll see on Oct 25th.

Also article is fail; to run game on ultra requires a gtx 580; that alone costs more than a PS3.

Beta, not demo. The vast majority of betas I've participated in looked noticeably worse than the final release. I'm not sure where this Beta = Demo idea comes from. You're also assuming the beta is using the most recent build. I would bet a decent amount of cash that it isn't.

I don't know why people bother doing stupid comparisons like this trying 'obviously' to make one look worse than the other, especially when this was vs. PC and wasn’t really necessary, that they actually 'tried' to make the PS3 look worse still is actually quite funny and in some ways ratifies that it'll probably look great on PS3.

When I say KZ3 was broken,I didn't mean in the actual gameplay,but the way they set up classes i.e. giving assault rifle to snipes and letting them go invisible,thus allowing people to just sit in the corner of a room invisible shooting everyone that walks by.GG refused to fix this.I haven't played KZ3 in a couple of months so I don't know how it is now.

The PC Beta version of BF3 does not run in Ultra!

sure you can set the settings to Ultra but it just reverts back to Medium or High Settings. The Ultra texture pack is not in the Beta!

So all the stories of a HD5770 running the BF3 Ultra setting are FALSE! Hell a HD5770 can only manage 26 Fps while maxing out BC2, HD5770 can't run Crysis max and can't run Metro 2033 on low so how is it gonna run BF3 on Ultra?

I'll be glad when Oct 25th gets here cause BF3 is getting on my nerves with the amount of false rumors, bad information, and vs. MW3 or vs. PS3 articles.

My beta client do not revert back to medium og High settings when I pick Ultra. But in this build ultra dont give the best gfx, pick costum and cranq everythink to max.

But this is not DX11 from what I understand and to make a long story short, it wil get better for those with the hardware to back it up.

The pc version I lock at 60frp to sync with my refresh rate and every setting maxed sure looks good just for a beta but then again my pc is like 20 ps3s taped together lol
