I know you're not a fanboy. I'm just saying that the rendering architect at Dice, Johan Andersson, stated that both versions of the game run at 1280x704. I'd say he's just about the closest thing to Lens of Truth or Digital Foundry at this stage.

Its funny, comparing the 360 and PS3 version is pointless. If someone who has a console ever played the PC version, they would never go and play the console version again. I guarantee you that. PC version is only better ON SOME PCs. The PC is NOT a consistent platform. For many, it will look better on consoles than on their crappy 5 year old PC.

Have you seen the pc requirements yet. It puts crysis 1 to shame. My ati 5770 will only get minimum specs, and this is a gpu that usually gets max settings, even with Witcher 2.

I'm not complaining, people who spend 500-1000 dollars on gpu's should have something to show for it. But a lot of pc gamers will not see max settings on this game.

Dice confirmed that BOTH the ps3 and 360 versions are running 1280x704 so what are you talking about ? the both look the same judging by those screenshots

Since this is a comparison article, I'm going to do a thorough observation of the differences. Both versions looks virtually identical. However, the 360 version seems to have a blur effect on the background.

In this comparison image, notice how the entire area where the copy machines on the back left side seems to appear blurred compared to the PS3 version. The same effects could be seen on the poster with the woman's head on the right side.

the ps3 version has equally low res textures becasue both consoles have the same amount of ram with the 360 having just a little more usable ram because of lower OS footprint and the fact that the framebuffer is ti;led to edram and not gddr3. Aside from this they both run at 1280x704 so what are you talking about ? they both look the same to me but the ps3 version uses MLAA while the 360 version uses FXAA(confirmed by DICE)

I know the PC definately has more features because many options are locked to a certain graphic level. The console versions also might have extra optimizations as the beta is apparently a couple weeks behind where they are at the moment on retail version.

I just wish there was more destruction. :(
But I guess less destruction has to do with being a direct sequel to the battlefield series.
I'm sure full-on destruction will return for bfbc 3.

You should check out some caspian border gameplay, there seems to be a lot of destruction on that map. I think it will all depend on the map.

maxmill-I hate to tell ya, but the Ps3 version doesn't seem to be using the "power of the cell" either my friend. I'm saying that as someone who currently has early access on ps3..

I'll judge the 360 version for myself when the open beta drops tomorrow, but from what I've experienced firsthand with the ps3 beta, and from what I've read/seen about the xbox version it seems that they both have the same graphical issues.

In my opinion both consoles versions are under-par graphically (and that's not in comparison to the PC version, i mean that in comparison to other console games of this gen)

Am I the only one who was underwhelmed by the beta?? I played for 2 hours last night and thought it was fun, but not a day 1 buy. Maybe I've just played too many online FPS'. And before the wolves start circling, MW2 was the last CoD I played and I'm currently playing Resistance 3 (which is probably the easiest platinum trophy of the year).

BF3 is fun. I had more kills first game than I had in R3. The maps are huge. I am not sure if I like that. You run around for miles before you get into the action (especially without vehicles). I will focus on R3 MP for a while anyhow; but I will get BF3 as well, ASAP.

The problem is you played for 2 hours. When I started playing, I was wondering if I was playing a BF game. But after a few hours, it grew on me and I think the beta is awesome. Everything seems to be improved. The movement (a BIG improvement), the graphics are amazing. And the hit detection is better than bfbc.

They look practically identical. If you want to nitpick, the 360 version is slightly blurry over a distance and one screen has a tear at the bottom. Couldn't say whether either game has tearing issues yet. Negligible complaints to make at best. In motion, it'll be virtually impossible to discern the difference.

From what I see is that the PS3 has sharper images and better textures but the downfall is that it doesn't look as natural and has alot of jaggies. The 360 may not have better textures but it looks more natural because it isnt too sharp. So they both have ups and downs to each

yes, the game releases in a month, but that does NOT mean that this is basically the finished code. the code for this build wouldve been complete MONTHS ago. This beta is for server stress testing and working out kinks in their net code.

they cant just finish work one day and go 'hey lets just release this latest build as a beta right now!' and then its suddenly on Live/PSN.

I wish they put a bit more effort in making those comparison shots. I mean its not that hard to find a recognisible spot to stay on and aim at the same target in the distance.
Also, the 360 looks brighter than the PS3. Usually its the other way around, right?

No - it varies by game. Mass Effect 2 was brighter on 360, but "deeper" colored (only way I can explain it) on PS3.

I dunno - I'm not really impressed with either version, but I'll be getting it anyway - probably on 360, because that's where all my friends will be playing. Plus, I prefer the 360 controller for shooters.

Well, Mass Effect 2 on PS3 was a year late port running on a newer engine, so that is not a good example.
But in general with simultaneous releases the default gamma and contrast settings result in brighter image on PS3. I dont know why, but everytime I watch comparisons on lense of truth or digital foundry, native shots from ps3 are always brighter. Sometimes more sometimes less.
Fanboys always scream "meh the ps3 is washed out" when it can be easily corrected on tvs settings.

It all depends on the scene you are viewing in ME2 since the lighting and a bunch of effects where done differently:

ugghh..hate the translate articles. HOWEVER...this is probably the best comparison we have seen so far. side by side...same shot, almost identical angles, etc... Its well done and how a comparison should be done.

As to the games. PS3 and 360 for all intensive purposes are identical. You can squable about a texture or lighting effect here and there...but they on a whole look the same. Good, not great btw... PC definitely is the version that stands out the most for this game.

I gotta say, both the PS3 and 360 versions looks extremely similar. From what I could tell though, the PS3 looks a little sharper in some areas (the green striped awnings, the vending machine, the "8" on the subway train). But overall I'd say they're pretty close, and whether you have a PS3 or 360 you should be fine. But of course, the PC version is the best looking, which is hardly a surprise. Thankfully, I can experience both the PS3 and PC versions (I knew this computer would pay off some day!) Though most of my play with probably be on PS3 just because of friends and trophies. :P

the ps3 looks slightly sharper in some areas because it uses MLAA while the 360 uses the console version of FXAA(according to dice) MLAA has less sub pixel accuracy than fxaa(which is a disadvantage) but fxaa courses slightly more blur(MLAA blurs out images as well but its a little less than FXAA) which is an advantage of MLAA

FXAA is VERY VERY consistent and gets to all edges no matter how thing but MLAA is not it doesn't work at all on thin edges as well as a few other cases but AT its best it can have good results

This is game that has big open spaces, unlike KZ or CoD, and that is what interests me most. I played Bad Company 1&2, as CoD and Battlefield 1943, and 1943 is best. Its simply more playable, more interesting, with vehicles and stuff. So, I am looking forward ti this, and its not graphics that I care about most, but playability.

The game doesn't really look impressive. So... comparisons are irrelevant at this point. I'm playing this on PC on high settings. Not impressed at all by what DICE did. The death animations are lacking. They just fall on the ground like a sack of potatoes. The gameplay is also boring as well... at least on PC. PC = prone, shoot, prone, shoot. My experience on the 360 version was mostly run and gun and actually going for the objective. Don't see the point of playing on PC when the gameplay is suffering... I guess everyone's too busy looking at the textures while they're laying prone.
