Is Capcom Teaching Gamers Not to Buy Its Games?

IBT: It's finally here, after years of waiting "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" is about to come out... oh wait, that came out last February. Well then, the next installment of the game, "Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3," is slated for release in November and the web is abuzz with gameplay videos, screenshots and character rosters.

yes it is lol i am afraid to say so. 5bucks per skin, ouch! that's the kind of thing that keeps me away from their game, i sold MK for the same reason its just pointless.

Activision have mess up the industry lol seriously, you got Capcom thinking they got a call of duty in street fighter sf skin/cod mpacks...not a hot idea.

I'm begining to almost dislike built in harddrives because what use to be called unlockable features like new missions, maps, costumes, etc. after completing a game is now called DLC?! for a damn price?!?! pssh...

it was bad enough that capcom charged full price for the same game, just with a few new charaters with faster gameplay, but now they really pushing it by charging for F#@king alternative costumes?!?!
Very disapointing considering that I use to be one of their biggest fans...

I am not going to lie, i fell for their trap with street fighter 4, and after that i skipped marvel vs capcom 3.

Its sad, i mean they had a great game out on the wii called Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars with no dlc to make mention off, yet they never bother porting it to the other platforms, such a shame.

So ever since i really have not bought capcom games, i mean im done with them.

Honestly, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is an exception. The DLC for MvsC3 was expensive so I'd rather shell out the $40 and get the game rather than the DLC separately.

But for some that's like buying the game for a second time, that's not exactly great. Capcom needs to stop this nonen sense i can understand back in the snes days when we had cartridges with limited space and no testing or update faces.

But now things are different, there's no need for this. They are just being greedy and lazy.

You're missing the point. If Capcom released the content in UMVC3 via DLC, you would have spent more than $40 on all of them. Buying the entire game for $40 is fine, especially if you're trading in the old one to get it. In the end, you're saving money.

Yea I'm sure you will get a fair price trading in a basically obsolete game. Capcom is exploiting their best customers the ones who pick their titles up quickly (maybe buy a couple dlc packs). Then oh look a new game that has all these packs and new characters.

Not really, you're just not comprehending. They didn't have to release the extra characters and if they did through the marketplace or PSN, it would have been expensive.

Kamikaze, they don't seem to understand simple math. 12 (new characters) times 5 (dollars each) is 60 dollars. If you want them, it will cost 60. Add 20 more dollars for all of the new levels and new moves for each new character, and we're up to 80. Add, like, 20, or so, new skin packs at 5 bucks each, and that's another 100 dollars. That's a total of 180 dollars.

Disagree if you want, but that just means you are disagreeing with simple math.

yea & what if u didnt want the extra char. but now ppl are playing umc3 & getting off mvc3 or u bought 2 special edition copies for ps3 & 360 now u gotta trade both in & buy the games over again...course i hav no reason 2 complain i didnt buy either cuz i figured it'd happen but i hav a friend who bought both.

they anounced UMVC3 way too soon....they should have waited a little bit longer..think god I didn't buy MVC3 yet..I'll be getting this version for sure.

do yourself a favor and don't buy it. wait for the third version to come out. I think it will be called ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 deluxe edition. It's bound to be announced next year in january or febuary.

I'm joking right now but it wouldn't surprised me if it did happen.

As likely as that may happen, I'm going to get UMvC3. If and when the next version is announce, I will be sure to get rid of my copy and go for the new one.

what is wrong with capcom? i mean, they did virtually nothing for the 15th anniversary of RE(and no, a video in which any youtube user could make doesn't count.), they are releasing a super edition of a game several months after the release of the vanilla version,and other business choices that are questionable in nature. They made a CE of RE, RE2, RE3, RE4 HD and CV HD with RE goodies like a STARS patch and notes from the game....but it was only made in Japan.

I beg to differ, Capcom is not really doing anything wrong, but giving the masses what they buy.

Maybe if people started to vote with their money instead of b*tching and then buying the product, they would stop putting out ridiculous "skin" packs. And this goes for EVERY company that releases DLC; Bethesda, Activision, Naughty Dog, Bioware, Epic, you name them.

Face it, this is really the costumers fault, and it will only stop when people stop buying the DLC.

Start demanding complete games by not supporting any DLC, simple.

Nah, I don't think so. It's like the book market: publishers release books in hardcover first, so all the early adopters pay the high price. Then they re-released them as paperback, and those who waited get the same book for cheaper. Sometimes they're re-released with extra content, too. Hasn't stopped people from buying books.

I don't like Capcom's way of re-releasing all their games, but they wouldn't be the first to adopt that business model, and it works.

but books are alot cheaper and for the most part the book in a soft cover doesn't make your hard cover book obsolete like the SF's do.

Sure...look point is this, you paid 60 for the original and by the time you trade it in, i am sure it wont cover the full price towards a trade in. Regardless of the fact you are still buying the same game "again"

My point is, the new version should be the only version they should had released period. Instead of trying to squeeze people over beta versions of their games.

I've bought Sf4, Ssf4 for the Ps3 then Ssf4 again for the 360, then Arcade edition. MvC3, Sf3:OE, MvC 2 & SF2T.

Already have UMvC3 and SfxT on pre-order. Call me what you want but Capcom makes amazing fighting games and thats why I buy them. To each his own I guess.

If you had told me a few years ago that I would prefer Tekken over Street Fighter I would have thought you were crazy. I've always liked Tekken games, but Street Fighter was a classic and always delivered.

Now with the way CAPCOM has been doing things the only way I'd buy a game from them would be if they made a new Darkstalkers, but I'd probably be just as disappointed with it as I have been with their other fighters. Even with the online problems, which aren't as bad if you're persistent, Tekken 6 is much more fun to play than any version of Street Fighter IV.

Yeah, I used to love Street Fighter IV but they release new iterations/tweaked version way too soon.

After releasing 3 major street fighters in 2.5 years I just stopped buying fighting games again.

SF4 made me fall in love with fighter again, SSF4 and SSF4 Arcade made me not want to buy anymore fighters....again. Plus, Capcom is so bad when it comes to creating a proper online service.

Right now. I'm gonna wait for the release of Marvel vs Capcom 4 and Street Fighter 5 before I go and buy Ultimate Super Marvel vs Capcom 3: Hyper Championship Edition and Ultimate Super Street Figther 4: Hyper Championship Moe Arcade edition.

One game, Capcom: Asura's Wrath. And you only get my money there because it's cyberconnect2. The ONLY other way I'd buy anything from this current Capcom is if they announced a new Rival Schools. Outside of that, my lesson is learned.

Depends on who you are. The fighting game community welcome Ultimate MVC3 to make MvC3 a much better game but people who don't really care or haven't got the game just see it as Capcom being money hungry.

I agree they haven't been angels this gen but earlier this year everyone was cussing Capcom for not releasing dlc characters for MVC3 like MK was doing each month but when they announced a new verison of the game with 12 new characters, additional skillsets and tweaks to existing characters and new stages people complained except for those who saw the value and how the changes will make the game a lot better.

Arcade edition is 4 characters for $15 as dlc or you can buy the entire game on disk. People complained just because it was called arcade edition. If they had just released a patch and released those 4 characters as dlc without naming it AE then people would not complain but because it has a different name people instantly think it's Capcom trying to rip them off.

Capcom really only have themselves to blame. It's their previous acts that makes people instantly jump on the hate wagon.

It's not the multiple versions of games being released too soon that really turned me off but it's just their dishonesty for this whole generation. Starting with:

- Saying DmC was a prequel after the first trailer then changing their story months later in development revealing it's really a reboot.

- The infamous hard-to-delete game save for Resident Evil: Mercenaries.

- Saying that the reason Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom's content wasn't DLC was because of the recent earthquake in Japan.

- Getting fans of Megaman Legends hopes up by announcing MML3 then requesting ideas from them only to have it cancelled which had a twitter from them the following day stating "they didn't have enough support from them".

I know there are others that I have missed but on an integrity level I will no longer support this current miasma of corruption until they at least clean house on the CEO's.....
