good riddance! I think this is by far the most overrated FF game anyway.

RedDead4608d ago (Edited 4608d ago )

It's my fav FF, I realized why recently, the mood, th music sets the mood of each rea perfectly, while it doesn't have the best music in the series(8 and 10), the music does set the mood flawlessly. Every song suits every area down to a T.

I want them all to get Vita remakes anyway, since they're more likely than the Console versions and will be done quicker

darthv724608d ago

so the companies see that as a way to keep you hanging on to hope.

Perhaps square will do a remake for the vita. I mean actually if you want to play it on the vita it can be done in its current ps store version.

Peaceful_Jelly4608d ago (Edited 4608d ago )

Overrated is not, in fact is only second to FFVI as the best FF game ever and that's coming from someone that just played it for the first time last year. Play the game first and don't talk garbage about stuff you don't know anything.

Gordo7894607d ago

I played this game in 1997 when it came out, and honestly it is not even close to the second best FF game. VI is much better, IV is much better, and even Tactics which is sort of not even a FF game is much better.

Pozzle4608d ago (Edited 4607d ago )

I think a lot of people forget (or simply weren't old enough to know) that for many people, FFVII was their very first RPG. Their very first "big game".

This is a game that came out when developers were still struggling with 3D, especially on the PSone. Game stores were filled with clunky, awkward 3D games with dodgy controls, ugly textures and horrible bloopy soundtracks.

So naturally, people (especially those in the West) were VERY excited for FFVII. I still have my Playstation Magazines from back then, filled with speculation about the game's plot, and "teaser" screenshots that the editors tried to decipher and understand. Meanwhile us readers goggled over the graphics and the characters, wondering how ANY game could possibly be big enough to warrant three whole Playstation discs. Surely it couldn't be real! For months, we read about this ~magical~ game called Final Fantasy VII that was getting rave reviews in Japan for its incredible story, its deep characters, it creepy villain (though everyone got a laugh at Sephiroth's "Out of my way! I'm going to see my mother!" - Out of context, that screenshot was hilarious!), and it's amazing soundtrack. Nobody could believe the rumors or the screenshots. We had to see the game ourselves.

FFVII was to RPGs what Resident Evil was to survival-horror and what Super Mario 64 was to 3D platformers.

Whether FFVII is your favorite RPG is all a matter of taste. But I think it's harsh to say it's overrated or doesn't deserve the hype. It is, after all, the game that brought JRPs into the Western mainstream. It opened up a whole new world of possibility to the RPG genre.

That means for the ones who are more excited to see a FF8 remake or a FF9 remake.....we have even longer to wait.

That's actually the main reason I'm supporting FF7 to get given a remake. So they can finally realise they're hard work would pay off and they start on a FF8/FF9 remake aswell. We saw a tec demo on the PS2 of the Waltz of the Moon scene in FF8 and then a PS3 tec demo of FF7......yet nothing, just false hope

Baka-akaB4608d ago

I doubt it quite a lot .. they dont have too follow any kind of order ... look already at FFX going hd , even if its only a remaster .

Whatever each one think of the game , FF7 is their golden goose . They'll use it last , or when in deep sh*t , while all the other will probably get a remaster or remake before .

Michael-Jackson4608d ago (Edited 4608d ago )

I expect Final Fantasy X to be a HD port/remaster but I watched the conference and they clearly used the word "Remake" so this is making people confused like I am.

Need more info!

Apollyn4608d ago

Lol i wouldnt quite say that
A friend of mine said they wont make 7 while so many people want it as to fear of not doing it properly. 10 is also gonna have a couple new features and there redoing the blitzball from scratch.
also apperntly alot of Square dont like 7. Thhe game was a rush job an accidental masterpiece.

dark-hollow4608d ago (Edited 4608d ago )

I'll take FF9 please.

Seriously, FF9 is the most overshadowed final fantasy sequel ever!
It stick with the true final fantasy roots with it medieval world and no high tech soldiers and sh*t.
The main character was childish and funny but that why I loved him.
Plus, VIVI is awesome :D
Oh and did I talk about the combat? It made it feel like evey character is unique with what moves they learn and stuff.
The materia system made all the characters fight mostly the same way.

Even the music fit the game and overwhelm Me with nostalgia Everytime I hear it.

Baka-akaB4608d ago (Edited 4608d ago )

I agree except with the "true roots" part .Most used high tech , some even more advanced that what shown in the "steampunk ff7" .

Just even look at ff6 .

Ps : I also dont see Zidane as more childish than most others . He's optimistic and happy , but hardly a simpleton . I just see him as true to his swashbuckler style .

And it beats the previous short trend of moody , sulky posers two games earlier .

WhiteLightning4608d ago (Edited 4608d ago )

"Seriously, FF9 is the most overshadowed final fantasy sequel ever!"

Are you serious....do you see how much hate FF8 gets. It's like the same hate for FF13 yet FF8 was actually an amazing well improved game (better then FF7 in my opinion)

FF8 and FF9 will always be overshadowed and it's a shame since they deserve more attention. Yes Sqaure we would like to see a sequel or prequel for these two games aswell, maybe a film aswell....you guys did do this for FF7.

@Baka-akaB Yeah but as people have said they did FFX because it was easier to give it the HD treatment since it was a PS2 game. Square would have to work their arses off to remake these games.....I don't think they cba to do them in my opinion

Baka-akaB4608d ago (Edited 4608d ago )

"Are you serious....do you see how much hate FF8 gets"

At least FF8 get polarized feelings (btw i still hate it) . You either love it or hate it .

FF9 was just most of the time ignored , because it confuse that generation that only started final fantasy games with FF7 , with his on purpose retro feel . While many of the die hard old ff gamers found there a good game , but hardly as good as 5-6 .

FF9 is the game stuck between the rock and a hard place
Besides ,betweeen the two , FF8 is easily the top seller .

"Square would have to work their arses off to remake these games"

Not necessarily , they could as well just HD remaster them , those are still extremly done games that stand the test of time pretty well . More so than FF7 . ..

Look at the example per se of tekken tag hd . They could remaster it rater easily because they had already renders for the game that far outpowered the console back them , and scaled back dev accordingly .

Who knows if they can't just do the same for ff8 ? I remember reading they had to lower polygons counts because of the realistic looks of the chars for ff8 , opposed to those sd models from ff7 outside of cgs

Redempteur4608d ago

FF8 improved the graphics , but for pacing ,and world map , or general event or sidequest it's clearly a step backwards..

FF9 improved it ..but FF8 took liberties that are not so well received , especially if you (like ff8 ) recycle dongeons

Pozzle4607d ago

"FF9 was just most of the time ignored , because it confuse that generation that only started final fantasy games with FF7 , with his on purpose retro feel . While many of the die hard old ff gamers found there a good game , but hardly as good as 5-6 ."

That's true about the first part. FFVIII had incredible graphics for its time and everyone was wow-ed by how realistic the characters looked. People wanted to see how far Squaresoft could stretch the boundaries of realism with the next FF game. So many people were disappointed when FF9 came around and wasn't an update on the realistic graphics style.

And if I recall correctly, FF9 made it to the West around the time the PS2 was released. So everybody was talking about the PS2 by then and FF9 didn't get as much coverage as previous FF games.

Personally my favorite of the series was/is FF III

Anderson84608d ago

while i would like a remake i'd prefer if they hurried the f' up and released versus

creatchee4608d ago

I think that instead of remakes and remasters, developers should focus on making new, QUALITY titles. FFVII had it's time. Let's get something new and good out there.

I’m Glad Atlus & SE Changed Dates To Avoid Competing With Shadow Of The Erdtree

Saad from eXputer: "I'm glad I don't have to choose between Square Enix, Atlus, and FromSoftware due to bad release windows and Shadow of the Erdtree."

H92d ago

More intelligent than guerilla games

raWfodog1d 13h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

Atlus is releasing their game one week before Erdtree, SE is releasing theirs one week after.

HZD released four days before Zelda, HFW released one week before Elden Ring.

It seems to me like they are still releasing their games too close to Erdtree.

VincentVanBro13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

What a word vomit, rambling, turd of an article that simply states the obvious. Classic exputer.

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle15d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger15d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag14d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

Original Final Fantasy 7 - Is it Worth Playing in 2024?

Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?

ravens5217d ago

Got to Zacks part in 7 Rebirth. Said f it. Finishing my game in 7 og. Just got to part 2 yesterday. I also got Crisis Core... So it'll be a while before I'm back to Rebirth. I just keep thinking about it too smh, want to get back to playing it. Not till I know Zacks story though. I beat 7 og sooooooo long ago, it's crazy going through it again and remembering things.

MrNinosan17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Got to Zacks part in Rebirth?
You mean you started the game and turned it off?
The game starts with Zack...

ravens5216d ago

... Really 🤓 lol. His second part, I've played for 80hrs lmao. <---- PS5 Run time, probably not all game time. You guys know how it goes.

VIK212116d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Did you not ever play the OG FF7? After you recruit Vincent, later in the game, disc 3, return to that basement and look at the pod, there's a whole Zack story that'll trigger as a memory.... it's well hidden in the game and a lot of things regarding Zack are cleared up. FF7 Crisis Core is basically an extend feature of that hidden flashback... It took me years to discover it back then lol

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

MrNinosan16d ago

@ravens52
80 hours in Rebirth by doing everything, and you should've reached Zacks story about 5 times 🤣

ravens5216d ago

Ye I kno that's y I said not all gameplay time. But also I am very anal when it comes to exploring.

ravens5216d ago

Not to mention fighting Titan at his full strength. Hours spent trying still haven't succeeded. Found all 3 ruins but I'ma masochist when it comes to games.

Barlos17d ago

Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Barlos17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

It always takes me back to Christmas 1997, I got it as a gift and I was blown away when I played it. I couldn't believe games could look that good. The combination of pre rendered backgrounds and FMV really made it stand out. It definitely still has a certain charm that modern games can't replicate.

I can't imagine people will still be talking about Remake and Rebirth in 27 years.

Tapani16d ago

Fully agreed. To me the atmosphere, pacing, gameplay and music are all better than in the remake.

Rebel_Scum17d ago

Yes, play this, skip remake, start rebirth for new players.

I_am_Batman17d ago

Skip Remake? That's terrible advice.

leahcim17d ago

Remake is so amazing, pure FFVII Love, play it on PS5 please! aww the graphics the battles, the music... a dream come true.

Rebel_Scum16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

I disagree Batman
